Psst. Do you have any prompt suggestions for the (currently unnamed, but you can vote on that here) Black-centered whump event I'm planning to run? Now you can!
As of earlier this month (August 2026) I came up with the idea of hosting a whump event meant to center Black whump creators and whumpees, a
If you have any ideas for prompts (dialogue prompts, tropes, single-word prompts, something related to race, something completely unrelated to race, anything you'd like to see) feel free to submit some! :) There is currently no limit for the amount of prompts you can submit or to how many times you can do so, and I will be choosing from my favorite submissions in order to create the final prompt list for the event!
Thank you for your attention <3 Once the name is settled (you can still vote until the 13th of August btw), I will be making the blog and notifying y'all for anyone who might be interested o7

2 - Reference to (1) that "(noun) blues" expression (like in Stone Butch Blues) with blue as in like, feeling sad/unhappy (as a reference to angst), (2) Blues as a music genre created by black people
3 - Suggested by anon, clever worldplay :)
4 - A little variation on #3 to make things clearer about being whump stuff. Although if we went with just noirvember i dont think thered be much of a problem :0 there is another noirvember event about noir films but it's called "@/noirvember-film" so I think we'd be good. I did want to add an option with whump in the name tho just so we cover all our bases
Prompt: Magic with a Price/"I don't want to go back"

_____________
Mianu must have looked exactly like a statue. His eyes must have been empty, his expression blank. Perhaps even his skin was as cold as stone.Â
It was the exact same state that he had seen some of his own guards in when Elore had first broken through those royal defenses. He was under a twisted, crueler version of that same spell that had locked them under her command. So he must have looked just as horrifying.Â
If Darius ever found out that the royal guards had been incapacitated so easily, he would never forgive himself for leaving. For visiting his own home. Such a small thing to feel guilty about.Â
Mianu knew guilt all too well. Darius didnât deserve to feel it.
Which was why he was fighting so desperately against the magical hold that Elore had on him.Â
If it were a simpler spell, he would have broken out by now. But he wasnât so lucky. It was the collar. The stupid collar, made from his own crown, twisted by Eloreâs magic. Sheâd learned some new tricks since the last time Mianu had encountered her, and he and Darius had only barely gotten out of that alive. But Mianu was no good to her dead. So this time, she wasnât taking any chances.Â
This time, she wanted complete control.Â
And sheâd almost succeeded.Â
The collar was ice cold against Mianuâs throat, burning into his skin, cutting off his breath. Yet his body forced him to breathe. Her curse forced his hand to raise. Pain lanced down his arm as his magic leapt to life at her command.Â
It was like he was trapped inside a stone prison. He felt so small, so feeble, a tiny figure pounding against his own skull with bare fists in a vain attempt to break free. He couldnât even see. He could hardly hear. The world was reduced to a blur of dense, shadowy fog. Only Eloreâs voice rang clear. And even then, he was only allowed to hear what she wanted him to hear.Â
He would have screamed in pure frustration if he could get his jaw working.Â
But when his magic crackled along his arm, the world got a little clearer.Â
He knew, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that there was someone else out there. Someone that Elore wanted to hurt.Â
And she was about to use Mianu to do it.Â
No! Mianu tried to scream out, his mind roaring where his voice was silenced. No, no, NO, you canât make me do this! I wonât go back! I will not be your pawn again!Â
The more he fought, the more his magic burned. And the pain brought him back, inch by inch.Â
His heart pounded once. Twice. And that was enough for him to see exactly who he was being forced to turn against.Â
Darius.Â
Oh, gods...Â
His heart may have stopped beating right then and there. But in that moment, Mianu wouldnât have cared. Darius was in danger. And it was his fault. Darius must have heard about what had happened. And then he must have acted like the wonderful, bullheaded idiot that he was, and gotten himself caught by the soldiers that Elore now controlled. The same soldiers that should have been under Mianuâs command.Â
And now he was here. About to be killed by Mianuâs own hand.Â
He couldnât allow that to happen.Â
He would not let Darius fall.Â
But there was no way for him to stop his own spell. Heâd been fighting against Eloreâs power for so long without any real cracks in the stupid curse...Â
Except for one.Â
A tiny spark of hope burned in his chest, chasing away a little more of the curse that kept him trapped in his own body.Â
If his magic was being torn out of him anyway... then he may as well put it to good use.
Eloreâs command rang through his mind.Â
Destroy him...
Well. Something would be destroyed, most likely.
For the first time since Elore snared that collar around his neck, Mianu took a deep breath of his own accord. His magic still surged through him, spears of ice as deadly and cold as that blasted collar itself. It seared down his arm. Dug into his chest. That very same breath felt like ice.Â
Then he let it out. All of it.Â
Darkness slammed around him. Someone was screaming. It might have been him. It might have just been the sound of his own magic as his shadows ripped free. He didnât dare hope that the screams were Elore. He prayed they werenât from Darius.Â
Wind tore at him, ripping through his hair, cutting through his clothing. The screaming went on, and on, until his very thoughts became nothing but screams...Â
Then there was silence.Â
It seemed to stretch on forever. Mianu honestly wouldnât have cared if it did. As long as it meant Elore was gone. As long as it meant that Darius was--
âMianu...?âÂ
Mianu would have sobbed in relief if he had the strength.Â
Heâd know Dariusâ voice anywhere. Even in the void left after... whatever he had managed to accomplish.Â
Heâd never drained himself this much before. He was dimly surprised he hadnât passed out yet. Maybe he had, and heâd just missed it.Â
âMianu... you overdid it again.âÂ
A warm hand rested on his shoulder. And the world shifted, spinning around him, until he was completely enveloped in that warmth. Darius whispered something. Something that Mianu probably wasnât meant to hear.Â
It must have been very bad if Darius was swearing.Â
But gods, Mianu just felt so relieved that Darius was alive. He could swear as much as he wanted.Â
âYou really need to stop pushing yourself like that,â Darius said gently. âIf you do something like this again--âÂ
And despite all of his exhaustion, Mianu managed to find his voice. Barely.Â
âNeeded... save you.âÂ
He could hardly form the words. They were likely more feeble than a whisper. But Darius made that noise he always made whenever Mianu had done something monumentally stupid, and that was worth all the effort.Â
âI know,â Darius said softly. âAnd Iâll tell you all about how much of an idiot you are for that later. But first, Iâm going to tell you Iâm very proud of how strong you are. And then Iâm going to make sure you actually come back to me.âÂ
Back...
Irrational panic seized Mianuâs heart. âDonât want to... go back... not her... never again...âÂ
âAh... no, thatâs not what I meant,â Darius said quickly. âDonât worry. I wonât let anything like that happen again. Thatâs my job, after all. And my honor. Because I love you, and watching you tear yourself apart will never be fun. Or good for our health. So come on.âÂ
The world shifted again. But everything was still warm. Because Darius was still holding him.Â
âLetâs get you somewhere safe,â Darius said gently.

Hayden probably should have been more annoyed than he was. His sister had managed to get herself in trouble. And she needed her big brother to get her out of it. Again.Â
But he supposed this was what he got for not keeping a closer eye on her. One did have to be careful when rogues were involved... especially master thieves, as Robyn proclaimed herself to be.Â
Despite it all, he trusted Robyn. More than words could say. He couldnât deny her skills, and even if she would never say it out loud, all of her so-called âjobsâ had been harmless. Sheâd never actually hurt anyone, anyway. Not unless she needed to. And so far sheâd done more good for the people of the city-- their city-- than most of the rich muckety-mucks sheâd stolen from.Â
Really, Hayden always told himself, she was more of a treasure hunter than anything. A very good treasure hunter at that.Â
If she needed his help, then something must have gone very wrong.Â
Hayden just wished that the hastily-scrawled map he was following hadnât led to the dungeons beneath the abandoned Colosseum, the darkest stain on their cityâs history. What treasure would be worth going all the way down here?Â
At least Robyn had probably disabled any traps or pitfalls that might have been in the way. Or sheâd fallen right into them.Â
That thought made Hayden run faster.Â
âRobyn?â he called, his hand already on the hilt of his sword. âIâm here! Where are you? Whereâd you go?âÂ
Nothing. No response.Â
Haydenâs grip tightened on the hilt of his sword.Â
He kept searching. Kept calling her name. But no matter what he tried, everything remained eerily silent. His own footsteps echoed across the frustratingly-narrow tunnels that wove from cell to cell, his own calls bounced uselessly back at him. Until, at last, he spotted a hint of light.Â
Robyn had to be over there. Hayden felt like he had searched everywhere else, and he didnât want to linger down here any longer than he needed to.Â
Hayden raced towards the light. And he found, of course, another cell, barely lit by a single torch on the wall. And inside...
âRobyn!â Hayden shouted.Â
Robyn sat in the middle of the cell, her arms shackled behind her back. Her head was hanging low. Her bangs flopped in front of her eyes. She was curled in on herself, sitting back awkwardly on her heels.Â
Hayden didnât waste much more time trying to look at her. His sister was trapped, in trouble, and by the gods he was going to get her out. He didnât even care what she had done to get herself in this predicament.Â
He was by her side almost before heâd realized heâd moved.Â
âRobyn, what happened? Are you hurt?âÂ
All the words left him in a desperate rush. And for a single, horrible moment, Robyn didnât respond. Hayden feared he was too late.Â
Then Robyn lifted her head up. Hayden's heart lurched. She was definitely hurt. Her face was badly bruised. Her lip was split and bloodied. And the gag-- she was gagged, what kind of monster would do that?-- was probably just making things a lot worse. Her sleeves were torn in several places, and though her dark clothing usually didnât show stains, the coppery spots around those rips were unmistakable. And now that he was looking closer, Hayden didnât like the way that her legs were twisted under her.Â
Hayden bristled with fury. âWho did this to you?âÂ
Robyn glared at him. Which, honestly, he should have expected at this point. Especially since he hadnât attempted to set her free yet.Â
âRight, sorry, get you out of here first,â he said quickly.
Robyn shook her head. She pulled back, her glare growing harsher. Her body flinched at the movement, though her furious expression masked her pain.Â
Haydenâs blood went cold with guilt. âRobyn, let me help you. I know this is embarrassing, but--âÂ
Robyn very pointedly rolled her eyes. And then she made muffled sounds, clearly trying to tell him something. Probably that he was being an idiot. That was her usual track of conversation when things got bad.Â
Hayden huffed out a sigh. âLook, I promise I wonât tell anyone you got into this mess, okay? Just let me help you.âÂ
He reached for her gag. At least that would be a good place to start. He also had no idea how to get her unchained, but he could figure that out later. Â
Robyn kept spouting out muffled complaints, even as she finally allowed Hayden to do something to help. It felt like it took ages to actually get the knot undone. This stupid gag was on tight.Â
It was infuriating. Disturbing. He was going to make whoever was responsible for this face justice, that much was certain.Â
âThere,â Hayden sighed when the gag finally slipped free. âAnd youâre welcome. Now we just need to--âÂ
Robyn let out a ragged cough. Then:Â
âYou idiot!â she growled. âI was trying to tell you to run!âÂ
Hayden froze, staring in shock. âWha-- but I--âÂ
âDid you really think I would just let myself get stuck down in this hellhole, and beaten to a pulp besides, and then tell you about it?â Robyn snapped.Â
Hayden blinked. That... was actually a good point.Â
He didnât get the chance to dwell on it. There was a sudden rush of wind. The tingle of magic. And then the torch went out.Â
Hayden swore. His hand went to his sword again. He leaped to his feet and whirled around, squinting in the sudden dark... and then he was forced to squeeze his eyes shut as the light flared back to life, far brighter than before.Â
When he finally opened his eyes again, the cell wasnât empty anymore.Â
They were completely surrounded. At least a dozen people lined the walls of the cell, circling Hayden. He shifted, putting himself protectively in front of his sister. As if he could do anything against an entire army. And they were all clearly magic-users. A rush of whispers filled the room as each one started the words of a spell.Â
As if that wasnât a clear enough hint, all of them were wearing robes. Robes with a very specific insignia on the chest, just above where their hearts would have been if they had hearts.Â
Heâd walked right into a Cult trap.Â
The leader sneered at him, practically glowing with triumph. âWell, well. Looks like our little game is over. At long last.âÂ
âOh my gods, you cannot still be going with that line!â Robyn growled.Â
At least her pride hadnât taken too much of a hit.Â
Haydenâs sword almost sang as he drew it. He aimed it right at the leader.Â
âYou really think that cowards like you actually stand a chance against us?â Hayden said with as much bravado as he could muster. âHiding in the shadows, using tricks and traps... disgraceful.âÂ
âHiding behind an invisibility spell, actually,â the leader said casually. He raised his hand, dark magic already lacing down his arm. âNow... are you going to come quietly? Or are we going to need to be a bit... less reasonable about things?âÂ
They didnât even give Hayden the chance of a response. Before he could say a word, one of the cultists slammed the cell door shut. The leader laughed.Â
âNowhere to run, little hero,â he jeered. âSo? Whatâs your choice?âÂ
There wasnât a choice. Not with Robynâs safety on the line. Hayden had no doubt that, as soon as they had done what they wanted with him, they were going to kill Robyn. Just to get rid of any loose ends.Â
Hayden would not allow that to happen.Â
So he shifted his stance. He raised his blade in an obvious challenge.Â
The Cult leader just grinned.
âVery well,â he hissed. âTime for a new game, then.â He snapped his fingers. âGet him.âÂ
A dozen spells fired off at once. Hayden stood his ground. He didnât care what happened to him. He was going to protect his little sister.Â
Besides, if the Cultists didnât kill him after this, Robyn probably would.

_______________________
Caretaker gasped. âWhat is that?âÂ
There was something just off the edge of the path: a dark splotch standing stark against the blinding glare of the snow. It was hard to make out, but it looked like it could have been fur. There was definitely something ruffling in the wind. Caretakerâs first thought was that it was someoneâs cloak.Â
No local would have been foolish enough to stray from the path in the middle of a blizzard. But a stranger, a traveler...Â
Caretakerâs heart lurched. Someone was in trouble.Â
But, of course, Sibling only scoffed. He bundled his cloak closer to himself. âItâs probably just a rock.â
âRight, a rock that just so happens to be moving,â Caretaker said sarcastically.Â
The dark shape was shifting, lifting itself up ever so slightly. Small trails of snow slid off of it.Â
âOkay, fine, itâs some unfortunate animal, then,â Sibling grumbled. âNow come on. We have to get home before the snow gets-- hey!âÂ
Caretaker was already running over to the shivering form. She moved as quickly as possible, ignoring the snow seeping into her boots. That discomfort was nothing compared to whatever this poor soul must have been going through.
Caretaker had heard too many stories. Seen too many families torn apart. Animal or not, no one deserved a fate like that.Â
The form shuddered again as Caretaker got closer. Caretaker crouched carefully, making sure she wasnât just dropping into the snow and putting herself in greater danger. At least she was close enough to reach out to the figure. Her hand brushed against what she had assumed was a fur cloak... only to find feathers.Â
Strange. Sheâd never heard of anyone wearing a feather cloak before.Â
A soft, shuddering groan, almost too soft to be heard under all the wind, snapped Caretakerâs attention back to the matter at hand.Â
âItâs alright,â Caretaker said softly. âIâm here to help. Can you hear me?âÂ
The figure hardly seemed in any state to answer. With another pained whisper, they pushed themself up. And what Caretaker had thought was a feathered cloak unfurled into an enormous, crumpled pair of wings.Â
They were clearly damaged. One wing twisted in an awful way, all feathers utterly unkept, stained crimson in more places than Caretaker liked to think about. The other was folded carefully, feathers utterly ruffled. Caretakerâs breath caught at the state of them.Â
Sibling swore behind her. âCaretaker, get back!âÂ
But Caretaker only reached out again, trying to help the creature into something closer to a seated position. The figure flinched back with a gasp. And their head lifted, turning to her, eyes wide in panic.Â
It was a human... except for the wings, and the odd shape of their eyes, and the feathers in their hair. And when they swiped out at Caretaker in fear, their hands werenât hands at all, but a birdâs talons.Â
Caretaker didnât care about any of that. They were in trouble. They were hurt.
And they couldnât have been more than twelve years old.Â
âGods-- Caretaker, get away from that thing!â Brother shouted.Â
Caretaker glared at him over her shoulder. âTheyâre not a thing. Theyâre just a kid!âÂ
âA kid?â Sibling spluttered. âThat is not a child, thatâs a-- thatâs a monster!âÂ
The bird-child flinched. Caretaker glared at Sibling again.Â
âI should call you a monster, after what a jerk youâve been all day,â she snapped. âTheyâre hurt. It doesnât matter if they have wings or not, theyâre going to freeze out here if we donât help!âÂ
The bird-childâs head lifted up just a bit. Caretaker turned back to them and tried to give them a reassuring smile. It seemed like they could understand her, which was a good start.Â
Sibling scoffed. âYou canât expect to just take them home, can you? What will everyone say? What will they do when you waltz right back into town with a--âÂ
âTheyâll deal with it,â Caretaker said firmly. She offered her hand to the child again. âHere. Let us help you. Do you think you can walk? Iâm sure flying is a terrible idea right now...âÂ
The childâs wings ruffled, and they immediately winced. They curled further in on themself. Just for a moment. Then they put their trust in Caretaker. They took her hand.Â
Caretakerâs smile widened. âThatâs it. Up we go.âÂ
She did her best to get the child balanced on his feet, which were as bird-like as his hands. Sibling watched the pair struggle for a moment. Finally, he rolled his eyes and actually went over to help. He complained the entire way back home, but he still helped.Â
No one knew what they would face when they returned, but it would be better than whatever the bird-child had gone through.Â
At least he was going to get out of things alive.Â
Looks like my bois have found themselves in a bit of trouble again đ

_____________
âWhat the hell did you do to him?âÂ
Darius lurched against his chains, lunging towards Elore. He couldnât get far. His wrists chafed against the manacles, probably already red and raw. It didnât matter. Not when Mianu was right there, mere feet away from him, and still in terrible danger.Â
Elore, the False Queen, the sorceress that had haunted both Mianuâs nightmares and his own, had made her next move. And Mianu was the one who paid the price.Â
Elore let out a cold, cruel laugh. âI? I have done nothing. Your darling little prince has simply become what he was always meant to be. He has reached his full potential. At long last.âÂ
âWhat are you talking about?â Darius snapped.Â
Elore met his deadly glare with a twisted smile.Â
âOh? You donât know?â she jeered. Her hand curled around his shoulder, a predatorâs claws digging into its helpless prey. âAnd I thought you were all too aware of who he really is. He is my soldier. My perfect pawn.â Â
Darius fought against his chains again. His wrists were bleeding. He didnât let that stop him. He refused to stop fighting, refused to let Elore see the dread that coursed through his veins.Â
He would not back down in front of her. Never again.Â
âMianu, donât listen to her!â he shouted. âYou know itâs not true. You know youâre more than that. You donât need to do anything that she says!âÂ
His voice was ragged in sheer desperation, cracking with emotion despite all his efforts to remain stern before Elore. But Mianu didnât say a word. He didnât react at all. His gaze was harsh and cold, eyes nearly blank as he glared down at his knight. His magic curled around his arm. Wisps of shadow writhed like snakes. Ready to strike.Â
Ready to obey.
The golden collar around his throat, melted down from his own crown, must have been more than just a show of power. The manipulation and mind games that Elore had used in the past werenât enough anymore. Mianu had been freed from her influence... so now Elore had resorted to something new. Something far, far worse.Â
Elore smirked. âHe cannot hear you, little knight. He belongs to me now. Someone so strong, so powerful, was never meant to waste his days away with someone like you.âÂ
The words were a sharper blow than any dagger. Darius forced himself to ignore the sting.Â
âSheâs lying,â he cried. âYou donât belong to her. You donât belong to anyone. You can break through this, Mianu! Whatever sheâs done to you, youâre better than that! Youâre better than her! Your magic is--âÂ
âStrong?â Elore laughed. âStronger than any you have ever known? How quaint.âÂ
As Darius writhed fruitlessly against his chains again, Elore took a single step away from Mianuâs too-still form. She tilted her head ever so slightly, regarding Darius with a mild, dismissive curiosity.Â
âWhy not show off that strength of yours, little prince?â she sneered. Then she snapped her fingers. âDestroy him.âÂ
Mianu had no choice.Â
He finally moved. Â
The prince raised a single hand. His magic leapt to his command. Shadows rushed straight for Darius.Â
Darius closed his eyes, bracing himself for the impact. There was nothing else he could do. He just had to believe that Mianu would snap out of it in time.Â
If Mianu ever found out that heâd hurt the one person he cared about more than anyone else in the world, he would be devastated. And Darius would never be able to live with himself for failing so horribly.Â
