on the 30+ hour train ride home i decided to read a bunch of stephen king short stories i had skipped over years prior because they didn’t interest me and i read Night Flier first and that is literally a story about a detective type man hunting a crazed serial killer pilot who flies a plane directly to his victims and who thinks hes a vampire and he chases this guy across states only to find out it is an actual fucking Dracula who flies a plane and the dracula is like “fuck off and stop following me” and leaves in his plane. and that’s the story

do you guys remember when people were making fun of mcu’s bad cgi and so mcu fans started trying to defend it with “well it’s because the vfx team is overworked due to crunch and they use cgi instead of sets because vfx teams aren’t unionized” but like. expected you to STOP criticizing marvel because of that?

that’s exactly what’s happening with pokemon right now.

the reason the cgi in the mcu got so bad is because they’re producing way too many marvel moves/shows in a record amount of time and because they rely on it more than other studio’s it’s caused both their films AND the workers to suffer because of it.

the same thing is happening with pokemon where the time between major releases is becoming shorter and shorter and it’s caused both their games AND the employees to suffer which is not great. but for some reason (some) people think that pointing out the low quality of the new games means you think the devs are lazy and that we should be greatful they’re releasing games when like. it doesn’t have this to be this way actually.

genuine tip for any tumblr newcomers: block literally whoever you want for any reason. even if you’ve never talked to them. they don’t even need to be “problematic” or whatever. that person posting the worst takes imaginable in your favorite show’s tag? block em. that person who runs a blog dedicated to a ship that makes you want to gouge your eyes out? block em. that person you’ve never interacted with directly but they left a comment on a post you saw and they just seem like a dick? block em.

the block button: it’s free, it’s easy, it’s the key to a peaceful tumblrina life

I cannot stress enough how important it is to block early, block often, and block on a hair trigger.

If you’ve grown up or spent enough time online, you develop a sense of vibes. When the vibes are bad, trust that sense. Get rid of them. Stop them interacting with you. Stop them interacting with your posts.

It is better both for you and them. This is not “living in a bubble” or closing yourself off to criticism, it’s normal human behaviour. When you find someone unpleasant and stressful, you don’t interact with them. You don’t need a stranger to yell at you online to motivate you to improve yourself - if anything, yelling strangers only makes self-improvement more difficult and way less likely. The result of strangers yelling at each other is everyone ends up angry and defensive, and everyone entrenches further in whatever they already believed.

Block. Block on vibes. Block on sight. Block for no reason except you feel like it. Curate your online space the same way you curate your real life space. Be tolerant of differences, but don’t go out of your way to expose yourself to people and situations that make you miserable.

This becomes exponentially more true for anyone who’s a Content Creator™ or who has a fanbase. If you do not curate your community, the worst elements of your community will do it for you by driving everyone else away.
