Hey so
the last time I reblogged this post right before I got a great job, in a permanent work-from-home position, with benefits, retirement, and a salary literally 3x what I was making before, doing something I really like.
So you know.
This might be the real one, y’all.
Reblogging to spread the luck and the good fortune

I think one of the kindest things you can do for people with various mental health struggles is just... let people back into your life after they've been absent for a while.
Making friends as an adult is so fucking hard already and isolating yourself from other people is a very common symptom of depression, anxiety, burnout, ocd, trauma, grief, etc. Which means that someone will do the hard work of recovery/healing and resurface back into a world where their previous friends have written them off because they stopped showing up.
So if you know someone where you're like "yeah we could have been better friends but they fell off the map a bit" and that person suddenly reaches out, or starts showing up to events even though you kind of forgot they were still in the group chat... well they may have been Going Through It and you don't actually have to punish them for their absence you can just be glad that they're back.
Needed to hear this today.

What a re the most yummy nutritiotis summer vegetables i can steal from gardens
Doctors should snark at each other more, be a bit mean. Not for no reason, mind you. But if five doctors blow me off about symptoms and doctor number six FINALLY runs actual tests and gets a diagnosis, I think it should be Doctor Six's right to call up the other five and tell them they're lazy pieces of shit. That should be socially encouraged. Those first five doctors clearly can't listen to patients, but maybe another doctor might finally get to them.
Fun fact: my old PCP did basically this when she found the TUMOR IN MY SPINE that the surgeon didn't even run tests for. She called him personally, told him that she ran tests after 30 seconds of examination that found the problem in 3 days, and then told him his office better never contact me again for anything.
Followed by: "You'll be lucky if he doesn't sue you."
(I did not. I thought about it. If it had been cancer like we thought and not a benign tumor... )
It took me 6 doctors to finally be diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that has been eating the cartilage and collagen in my body since I was approximately 15 years old.
I’m 37.
This damage was preventable if doctors had just fucking LISTENED TO ME instead of telling me to lose weight. Now I’m a wheelchair user on 40mg of oxycodone and 1000mg of naproxen daily. I get bloodwork every 3 months because I’m on hepatotoxic immunosuppressant therapy. I need a hip replacement. My ankles may need to be fused.
I AM 37. Im expected to hit 65 if I’m lucky.
Look. I’m not going to shame anyone for choosing not to vote or for voting their conscience instead of voting for Biden. I will not condemn someone for choosing to do that. We’ve got free will and a free choice.
That being said, even I’m voting harm reduction in this election. I fucking hate every single bit of it and I’m gritting my teeth as I do it and I am NOT happy about it and this is NOT what I want to do, but I am voting for Biden.
I support maybe 5-10% of his shit, but at least he’s not gonna round me up into a concentration camp for being a disabled queer.

It makes me happy when they listen
YES. YES YES YES THANK YOU
The way people's eyes light up when they talk about things they love. You agree.
"redemption arcs are toxic, you shouldn't try to fix someone!"
actually it is so important to me that being in community and experiencing human connection can save people. thanks
Getting on my minor political + mindful soapbox for the day to say that accelerationism is tempting - especially to those who are struggling with their mental health - because accelerationist ideals often borderline on, if not blatantly cross into, the suicidal and that's a deeply horrific and dangerous thing.
If you're finding yourself drawn to political philosophies that rely on the idea that things have to get worse before they get better - especially if they encourage martyrdom or don't really seem to have an idea of what the "get better" part looks like despite having a clear idea of what the "get worse" part looks like - check in with yourself. Are you doing okay? If you're in a position to - it'd probably be best to revisit the political thought after taking a moment to ground yourself.
Don't get sucked into political cult-like ideologies that prey on the mental health struggles of desperate marginalized people. We can do better.
theres bikes around the city you can rent but you have to use an app that needs your drivers license. theres buses that drive right to your destination, but if you dont have change you need the app. you can wash your car here if you sign into the app. you can go to the bathroom here you just have to unlock it with the app that needs your location on. you can order at this restaurant if you scan the code and download the app. im losing my freaking mind
You gotta read and watch some old books and films that aren’t 100% modern politically correct. I’m not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.
Also, more often than you might think, they’re not actually promoting bigotry so much as “didn’t consider all the implications of something” or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.
Kill the censor in your head.
When we choose to avoid history because it's Problematic or Says Bad Things, we are choosing to divorce ourselves from understanding how we came from that time to this one, which makes it even more likely for the cycle to repeat, with no one but a few people with shelves of old books aware that it's happened before.
Go watch Blazing Saddles.
This is what "Punching up" looks like. The hero of the movie is called a slur the whole way through, because it's a comedy about racism. Who is the movie poking fun at?
White settlers. Greedy politicians. Opportunistic rich guys. The "Salt of the earth, the common clay of the new west. Y'know. Morons."
Could anyone make this movie today? No. Was it important when it was made? Yes.
I mean, yes, but also no.
What I mean by that is that you couldn't make Blazing Saddles today bc the thing it is parodying - spaghetti westerns - was completely ubiquitous at the time and it's now just... gone.
And it's gone in part bc Blazing Saddles skewered it so entirely.
Mel Brooks continues to have a career - History of the World Part II just came out last year - and he continues to make the same kind of work. He's just skewering entirely different types of media - "prestige TV" was a big one for HotWp2 - and continuing to punch up.
You can make that kind of art, still. You just have to know where to hit.

Yes. Have YOU considered that sometimes working on hard things is both necessary and worthwhile?

There are so many ways to make moodboards, bookcovers, and icons without plagiarizing! As artists, authors, and other creatives, we need to be especially careful not to use someone else’s work and pass it off as our own.
Please add on if you know any more resources for free images <3
recently found out about openverse which i think aggregates a bunch of creative commons images from flickr, wikimedia, nasa etc… pretty handy
I’m shocked so many people don’t know about my go to – Morgue File.
