it's so crazy too bc i'll be like "this phrase/practice is being touted as ancient knowledge with a secret unbroken lineage, but it was quite literally made up in the 20th century. like we can trace it back to its very inception in like 1961." and someone will be like "that can't be true because my grandmother taught it to me." and i'm like yes your grandmother was 20 in 1961.

the whole "insulting someone based on their appearance is bad because it could indirectly hurt people you like who share that feature" is a good start for unlearning body shaming but i do think we need to go further and remind people that even if there was some physical trait that was magically 10000% exclusive to conservatives and creeps and nobody else ever had it, we still shouldnt be insulting them based on that. because the problem with them is not their appearance its their ideology and actions. by insulting their appearance you arent just indirectly insulting others who look like that, youre literally not making the correct point. stay on topic ya know.

the annoying thing about weightlifting is that you have to lift weights that are a little too heavy for you if you want to get stronger. and you have to push yourself outside of your comfort zone in order to keep building muscle. fucked up.
thank god this same principle doesnt apply to any other skill you want to improve at! that would really suck.
“This happened again and again in church history. Women teach, advise, encourage, rebuke, and sharpen some of the best and brightest male leaders in the history of Christendom. Those leaders praise these specific women, mostly in private. And then the leaders say that womanhood, in general, is weak, stupid, and gullible, because of Eve.”

These pescatarian birds are directly exposed to PFAS contamination due to the island's position near the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Over fifty years of data show a peak in PFAS (also known as "forever chemicals") content in seabird eggs in the 90s, followed by a decrease as regulations went into effect. The most recent findings show a 70% decrease of most common PFAS.
While continued vigilance a regulation is needed, this data indicates that regulations are working to reduce PFAS concentrations in marine ecosystems.
Yes!!!! I did a review of literature on PFASs in human drinking water about half a year ago, and there is a lot of really good progress! Please celebrate this, please don't let this solution be forgotten (at least so quickly) as the ozone layer or acid rain.
We are making genuine progress! Producers are dramatically altering how much they use PFAS and how much gets released in effluent, but also there's a lot better understanding of how to remove PFAS from the environment!
Environmental problems CAN BE SOLVED.

So many American left voters have no patience for the process of creating a long term fix. If it's not done in two years, they can't be bothered to stick with it and so Democrats lose power again despite being the only viable governmental path towards what they want.
This cycle really does repeat every time the Democrats are just shy of enough momentum to make real progressive moves. We never put them fully into the driver's seat despite knowing what Republicans do (consolidate wealth and power) when they're in that position.
And even then they'll bitch at Democrats for not fixing things because they just EXPECT Republicans to fuck everything up. They attack Jeffries and Schumer instead of Johnson and Thune.
AND, every time this cycle repeats, the thing the "mainstream" Democratic Party learns from it is that the voters punish those progressive moves, which is why they keep drifting rightward and why they aren't as aggressive about opposing the Republicans' bad policies as they ought to be.
I have a tiny bit of hope this time around because we're seeing a wave of "mainstream" Democrats losing primary elections to more avowedly progressive candidates. And I also have a tiny bit of hope because I live in a purple state and I keep overhearing conversations in coffee shops that imply that the Republicans are in fact taking most of the heat for the naked corruption and the rising prices for essentials and starting another war and so on.
But we're never getting out of this cycle until we -- the voters -- start rewarding the leftward moves no matter how hesitant and inadequate, instead of punishing them.
This. So much of the left has their thinking backwards. You get the politicians you show up for. If you stay home, the people who do show up are the ones who decide our collective future.
And right wingers always show up. So we constantly drift toward the people actually bothering.
If we want real change, we have to fucking work for it. Daily. For decades. The left has to accept this or we will never get out.
“Even by the raw numbers, then, U.S. health insurance looks as much public as private. But that understates the government’s role: Private health insurance in the U.S. is both highly regulated and heavily subsidized.”
— The U.S. Healthcare System is Already Mostly Socialized
please wear sunscreen!!! I've seen "fuck the beauty industrial complex" posts about complicated skincare regimens and am 100% with them except sometimes they mention sunscreen and no. no. absolutely not. sunscreen is a wonderful supportive friend who wants to keep you safe, and you should let her do it. throw out all your other cosmetics and skincare products if you want, but keep your sunscreen. and if you're not wearing sunscreen, start wearing it!!!! this is not about terror of aging, this is not about every tiny imperfection our fucked-up culture has made you feel insecure about, this is about protecting yourself from skin cancer. wear the damn sunscreen.
Sunscreen is not cosmetic; it is functional.
Republicans will stop at nothing to give your money to the top 1%.
