I think there is a problem in the iwtv/tvl fandom space, as many people seem to believe every new piece of information we get this season is the complete truth, so every reframing or recontextualizing of a dynamic is seen as a retcon of everything previously established but i feel as though that is a disservice to what the show has always done. They give you a story and they try to make you understand that you will actually never have the full complete truth of events, as these different perspectives are only each character's truths.
So Louis did not lie, he told what he believed to be true and we later find out how difficult it is to know how much of it is real considering who he was married to for over 70 years. And Lestat isn't retconning everything we previously knew either, he's telling his very emotional version of events. Neither can ever be seen as the real events that took place as one of them had Armand fidgeting in his brain for seven decades and the other is known to use mockery and insults as a way to disguise his true emotions. So why are we quick to call Louis a liar? And why are we quick to take Lestat's word as the truth? Just because it's new information, does not mean it's sincere and does not erase what we had previously known either. This is something the show has repeatedly shown us.
Of course you're not enjoying this season if you sat through seasons 1 and 2 fully believing that the version of louis we saw in dubai was his true self instead of a performance, just as his entire relationship with armand was. Or if you watched those two full seasons, seeing him consistently dismiss claudia and put himself first before her and her memory, but you can't see why she would feel so much hatred for him. I'm afraid you did not get the show at all in the first place.
"I forgot. Love makes you stupid." Again and again and again. And now he dares to call upon her ghost, showing up to this seance with the other man she despised and who abused her, throwing in her face how his meaningless actions of revenge should be important to her or should grant him any of her forgiveness. Why shouldn't she make him feel like shit? And does it even matter to him? Does it truly matter when this version of claudia is no longer the one he had created in his mind and idealized for so long even after her death? A version that was never really truly claudia, as she has never been here to speak for herself and tell her own truth until now.
I don't know, i think people are being very small minded if they believe that claudia saying she hates louis means she never loved him, or that her unloading this hate on him after all these years is lessening the abuse she went through with lestat. To me, it's less about making lestat the lesser evil and more about understanding louis was complicit in the horrors she went through, that this infantilized and idealized version of her was a product of louis' selfish mind, wanting her all to himself to continue to serve him as a reminder of his guilt, the neverending guilt that essentially drives his life, and disregarding her as her own person and as the vampire she actually was.
