The grinding process for sharpening anything to a cutting edge on a grinding wheel, or even using a whetstone or even sand paper, would cause a large amount of friction heat that would cause a poor insulator substance, like the flesh of a banana, to heat up and become mushy dramatically fast. On a grinding wheel this would mean sending flying bits of banana flinging across the walls
