The book I'm reading suggests that Google became so market dominant that most people couldn't name a search engine that came before it, so I'm curious.

I primarily used AltaVista and Yahoo before my 10th grade English teacher told me about Google in 2000. I have such a vivid memory of being like, "oh shit this IS a great tool..." which is hilarious to recall 26 years later.

I know I already made a post to this effect but it's so baffling to me when someone defends the fact that headphone jacks are slowly but surely getting phased out by smartphone manufacturers with some variations of "wireless headphones are more convenient anyway" bc like. If we're talking about convenience what I like about wired headphones is that they conveniently have a single plug that makes the same damn pair of headphones universally compatible with every single audio-output-capable device I own, from my phone and my computer to my fucking gameboy and my casette player, it doesn't get any more convenient than that.

strong suits: mind-numbingly boring mechanical translations, starting a brand-new project, code reviews.

weak points: aesthetics, legacy code, factoring out common code, appropriate code organization in general, retaining features while editing, hallucinations, accepting out-of-session changes, zero sense, sandbox design. and also the massive environmental damage.

i mostly work in a legacy codebase or three. i am pretty sure that i am almost as fast at delivering working, debugged code with ai than without.

but it sure is more pleasant without it.

TIL the way i make coffee is pretentious

i mean all i do is heat water to 202F, grind beans with a conical burr grinder, add 15g of grinds to my aeropress, pre-wet the grounds with 50g of water using my hario v60, lightly stir, add water to reach 255g total, screw on the strainer cap with an unwet filter, let it steep for 2m30s, and slowly plunge it into a cup pre-heated using excess water its not that complicated yall yes i am autistic why do you ask?

#these days? one aeropress scoop preground + water to 4 mark on coffee maker #the effort-to-improvement ratio is not worth grinding and aeropressing every day
