Would you happen to write about Jon Snow—maybe he meets a winter nymph, covered in snowflakes and wolf fur, and they strike up a sweet, silly romance?
Helloooo! Thank you so much for requesting. Give me some time to plan this out and I'll have it ready as quickly as I can ♡
There's Little Truth In Lying
Or; Jace knows that in order for his mother to win the war, he has to make sacrifices. He just never thought the sacrifice would be you.
Plot Point; a twist to the original story, where instead of Jace, it's the reader that falls in the Gullet, aged up characters (they have kids, they're ocs).
Warnings; death, angst, wounds, violence, grief.
One-shot; 4.1k words.
A/N; I've mixed book and show canon.
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.
The waves crashed with fervor against Dragonstone's cliffs, leaving only salty water at their wake. At their touch, small pieces of rock detached, taking for the sea, a typical journey which always ended up being the same; they turned to sand, clinging at the bottom of the ocean, where no one could ever see them again. At least that was what the sea men said.
It felt eerily like an omen of death. Much like human beings, even the mighty rocks eroded, ultimately fading into insignificance.
You supposed you found truth in the sayings of the sea men. Gazing out from the stone window of the castle’s main entrance, you felt as though you could sniff the very scent of mortality intertwined with the fragrance wafting from the sea.
The situation was dire. Rhaenyra was deeply shaken, harboring grave concerns both for her realm and for the safety of those who surrounded her.
You could share this exact sentiment with the Queen. Having lived by her side for so long as the betrothed, and later wife of her eldest son and heir, Jacaerys, you had been profoundly influenced by her.
Yet, in all honesty, you possessed no real power. You were no warrior; you were a lady of the court who had spent the better part of her life mastering etiquette and diplomacy befitting a future queen. And in spite of your brother's archery lessons, you weren't really a master in the art, since you were forbidden from ever pursuing them. Furthermore, lacking Targaryen blood, you possessed no dragon of your own. Your sole encounter with these majestic creatures was when Jace introduced you to Vermax. Consequently, you were utterly powerless and helpless to offer any aid.
And the truth was, you loathed it. You despised remaining idle, watching everyone expose themselves to peril while you stayed sheltered behind the walls of Dragonstone.
Still, on numerous occasions, you had sought to assist in your own way. It was your patient entreaties that had swayed your brother, Cregan Stark, convincing him that it was wise to join the war alongside the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Furthermore, you had accompanied Jace to the Freys, eloquently detailing not only the financial incentives but also the renown they would attain by enlisting in Rhaenyra’s army.
Yet that was the extent of the aid you could offer.
Now, you were merely confined to your chamber, desperately trying to conjure up something useful.
Your thoughts were revolving around the general state of affairs when the door to your chamber opened, and your husband walked in.
"Jace." you uttered softly, a wave of relief washing over you at his sudden appearance.
Yet, that solace evaporated almost instantly.
In Jace’s eyes, you could discern a sudden frenzy, an unsettling madness you had never witnessed before. His brown irises had dilated, consuming nearly the entirety of the sclera, while the inner pupils seemed to have constricted into pinpoint dots, if such a thing was even possible.
"Y/N." he greeted you tersely, closing the distance between you.
You rose from the chair where you had been seated and approached him cautiously.
"What is the matter?" you inquired hesitantly. "Is everything alright?"
Your husband shook his head, implying that nothing bad had happened.
"We can win this war. Put an end to it." he said, and a maddened smile appeared on his face. "Y/N, I found a way, I have the means. The time has come."
Turmoil washed over you, and as Jace moved closer to you, you took a step back, leaving a small gap between you.
"This is madness." you said, making your displeasure immediately obvious. "You can't just announce to me that you're about to solve a war that has ruined our lives. At least not without explaining your plans first."
If he was disheartened by your words, he didn't show it.
"Listen to what I'm planning before you set yourself against me." In his words, there was a sense of humor, but the circumstances didn't allow you to laugh.
Seeing the look in your eyes, a gaze filled with fear and anxiety, Jace tried to reassure you.
"Corlys' ships are gathering at the Gullet. They intend to fight the Triarchy and crush the usurper's fleet, while also getting my younger brothers to safety in Pentos." He paused and looked you in the eye, trying to convey the importance of what he was saying. "I will fly with Vermax to help the Velaryon fleet from the sky. Baela has already agreed to come with me on Moondancer."
Widening your eyes, you looked at Jace, the man you had learned to love for so long, as if you had never known him at all.
"What does your mother have to say about this?" you asked him, trying to slow down any reckless move he might make.
This made him a bit more sober; it brought a gravity to his face. The mention of Rhaenyra not only brought him back to the present, but shook him enough to make him reflect on the weight of his impending actions.
"You know my mother would never agree to me putting myself at risk." he said with a frown. Indirectly, however, he betrayed that the Queen had no knowledge of his plans.
"Jace." you breathed, though it was difficult and required a great deal of effort. "I am just as against this as your mother will be when she finds out you intend to disobey her."
You were there for a recent incident, where Rhaenyra had forbidden him from flying into battle and facing his uncles. The outcome had been predictable; Rhaenys died fighting atop her dragon, but selfishly, you could say you were glad it wasn't Jace in her place.
"She won't find out." Jace said hesitantly.
You raised your eyebrows. "How come?"
"Because I won't tell her." he answered, determined. "No one will tell her."
"So, you mean to disobey the Queen? Go against her wishes?"
He made a sound as his tongue clicked against his teeth, and it seemed to you like he was about to roll his eyes at your questions.
He didn't even answer; he simply nodded.
It was your turn to scoff. "She only means to protect you, Jacaerys. And frankly, I'm on her side." You looked at him pointedly. "You are the heir to the throne, next in line to be king. You can't act recklessly just to prove yourself to whoever you aim to please."
He glared at you. "I don't want to prove myself to anyone. I owe it to my Queen to serve her in the best possible way. It just so happens that this way is through battle, and it is my duty to sacrifice myself for her."
Tears began to blur your eyes, and you felt the moisture like a threat.
"And what about our children, Jace?" you tried to reason with him, your voice breaking. "What about Aerea and Aerys? What about me? Am I to be your widow, weeping and regretting the moment you left our hearth? The moment I let you go?"
It seemed that your tears moved him, because in the very next moment he came right up to you and held you tightly, as if there was no tomorrow. And right there, in his arms, his comfort warmed you for a little while.
"You have to understand." he spoke to you softly. "In times of war, it is understandable and required that we make certain sacrifices. Yes, I can't deny that it's dangerous, and that there's a chance I could meet my end out of nowhere. But, Y/N, it's worth it. If I manage, together with our fleet, to crush Aegon's forces, everything will be resolved. Our children will live in a world with peace. Think about it."
And you did think about it.
And when his lips met yours, you inevitably agreed.
°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
However, even though you promised Jace that you would stay behind to take care of the twins and ensure the queen's safety, you knew that you could not leave the only man you ever loved to put himself in the worst danger.
And it was true. Your heart burned at the thought that your husband would sacrifice his skin while you would sit once again idle, motionless and inactive.
And so, you approached Baela and begged her to take you with her.
“I can shoot with a bow.” You pleaded. “Cregan has taught me the art of archery and he is the best in this field in the North." You didn't mention that you weren't an expert. You couldn't. "Please. I can't lose him. And I can't let you carry the equivalent weight alone in case he falls in battle. I need to be there.”
Baela tried to discourage you, but it was in vain. You had already persuaded Daemon's daughter, while you yourself had taken your decision so seriously, that no one could make you back down. You wanted to be present.
And so it happened. Wearing the suit with dragon scales that you borrowed from Baela, you mounted Moondancer with her, after Jace had departed. Holding her tight, and with your bow tied to your back and your shield in your right hand, you headed to the Gullet to fight against the Triarchy.
As you had planned, Jace hadn't noticed you for most of the flight. Baela had risen high enough, and was flying directly above him, so that he wouldn't be able to realize that you had gone along with them.
When the dragons faced the enemy fleet, however, everything changed. Relentlessly, you tried to find members of the enemies and hit them.
Your previous words had been proven true. Indeed, Cregan had taught you the ways of the bow and almost none of your arrows missed their target. One after another, the enemies fell unexpectedly and took their final breath.
But every good thing comes to an end sooner or later. The ballistae of the Triarchy launched huge wooden bolts that thrust under the scales of Vermax, and began pulling him down. The green dragon began writhing in pain, resulting in you and Baela abandoning your post and rushing to help Jace.
And that was when he noticed you too. Narrowing his eyes, he observed your figure hanging from Baela's back and giving her orders on how they could best help him.
Anger was the least of what he felt. He waited just a moment for the time when his fury would wash over him at the sight of you, at the thought of returning back so he could remind you how foolish your choice was to follow him onto the battlefield, but the only thing he felt was sadness. Indescribable, endless sadness and emotion at the image of your sacrifice for his salvation.
He watched helpless your attempt to cut with your slender arrows the rope that joined his dragon to the bottom of the sea and felt such warmth, that sweat began running down his temples, not for the thought that he could die, but for the one reflecting your unconquerable spirit.
On the other side, you attempted again and again to hit the thin fabric, but it seemed that luck had abandoned you. All your previous successes seemed pointless, as if it didn't matter the least that you helped suppress a large part of Aegon's fleet.
And as if that wasn't enough, your missed shots resulted in reducing the number of your arrows very quickly. Before you even realized it, you had almost run out. It didn't help much either that in your attempt to free Jace, the shield that protected you slipped from your hands and fell with fury into the sea.
In the end, Baela decided to have Moondancer cut the ropes with his teeth and free the other dragon. Vermax rose with a cry of anger and continued to burn the enemy's ships.
Despite the tragic situation that prevailed a few minutes ago, everything showed that Viserys and Aegon, your husband's brothers, would finally manage to leave. Corlys was fighting too in the best possible way, and the numbers of the Triarchy constantly seemed to be increasing.
“Y/N!” you suddenly heard from your left and turned to see Jace looking at you with surprise.
Immediately you thought he was angry with you and opened your mouth to explain to him, but yet another spear flew upwards, forcing him to move to avoid it.
You thought he wouldn't try to talk to you again during the operation, but he was persistent.
Approaching Baela's dragon from the right this time, he shouted to you so he could be heard through the wind.
The moment he was about to talk to you though, unprotected after the fall of the shield and having no other arrows, you received a strike to your side.
For a moment everything blurred. You lost the grip you had on Baela and felt yourself slowly falling from Moondancer's back.
Quickly, you looked towards Jace, but all you could distinguish was the eyes of the man you loved, the love of your life, full of tears and fear. So much fear.
You never did comprehend when you received a second strike. Another arrow protruded from your back when you finally fell into Jace's arms.
Your prince held you tightly in his warm embrace, stroking your hair, which was full of water and sweat, having come undone from the braid in which you had tied it.
“Why?” he begged with sobs. “Why are the gods so evil, so cruel as to take from me the one thing, the only thing I ever craved in my life? Why did you have to be so brave, yet so stubborn?”
You tried to smile but the pain threatened every part of your body, making the act difficult.
“They are not cruel.” You reminded him. “They made me worthy to help you. And that is what counts. That is my own wish.”
His voice cracked in his next words. “I would have made it. Damn it, Y/N, I would have made it. I would have wiped out the fleet, I would have sent my brothers to Pentos, I would have returned to our family. Why couldn't you just stay home?”
With difficulty you answered him. “I couldn't let you risk your life while I would be behind the walls of Dragonstone, secure. I needed to help you.”
The ships were now retreating. The enemies knew that they had lost.
But for Jace, the only one who had lost was himself.
“And what of our children?” he asked, hugging you closer. “Aerys and Aerea? What will I tell them when they ask about their mother? That I let her die while in the process I saved my own skin?”
What of our children? you had asked too, some hours ago.
This time, despite the pain washing over you, you smiled, even with bloody teeth. “You will tell them that their mother died protecting the one thing she loved as much as them. The one human. You will tell them that I was fearless and that whatever I did, I did it for them.”
Your beautiful, tragic husband continued to cry, and in truth, you had never seen such a beautiful sight before. It was the best way to die.
Hesitantly you raised your hand and wiped the wet matter away. Without hesitation, Jace leaned into your palm and began to calm down.
“I love you.” He whispered to you with affection, placing his forehead against your own. “My mind and my heart, my whole body shatters at the thought of what is about to happen in the next few moments. You are the sun of my day and the moon of my night. You are the blossoms that fill the meadows, the snow that calms me down when I slowly die inside. You are my everything.”
A tear rolled from your eye. “And you are mine.”
Jace bent down and captured your lips between his with passion, as if he was never going to see you again. And the truth was, he wasn't going to.
When he stood up, all he faced was your empty eyes.
°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
The flight to Dragonstone was silent, the echo of victory forgotten.
Baela rode ahead, unable to speak to Jace. She held herself responsible for what happened to you, for your unfair loss, and for her step-brother’s grief.
Not that he would have answered, lost in thoughts of your sudden death. He was thinking of your children, the 4-year-old twins you both loved more than anything. Aerys, who was so much like you, calm and sweet, yet strong at the same time. Aerea, who had your eyes, your beauty, and your purity.
He was thinking of your brother, Cregan. He had promised him that he wouldn't let anything bad happen to you, that no obstacle would stand between you and a long life. Your early death symbolized his failure to keep his oath.
He thought of his mother, who had refused to give her approval for the operation from the very beginning.
He thought of himself, who despite winning, should have listened to you and stayed home.
But above all, he thought of you. How you smiled at him every morning, lying in the soft sheets of your bed, your hair scattered over the velvet pillow you refused to part with. How every morning you left quickly to make sure you were the first to say good morning to the twins when they woke up. How you loved his own siblings, how you wept for Luke's unfair death, how you even felt sad for Aemond's downfall, who had treated you kindly when you met him at a young age. How openly you loved him, as if he were the pinnacle of life on earth.
The thoughts nearly suffocated him, but they stopped abruptly when Vermax set him down on the castle's parapet. He climbed down slowly from his saddle, holding you tightly in his arms.
The first thing he saw was Rhaenyra.
His mother hadn't noticed your body in his arms and was heading furiously toward him.
"Are you mad?" she shouted at him, and Jace could hear both indignation and relief in her voice at the sight of him. "You disobeyed my orders, you left without my permission, you attempted to-"
Suddenly, her voice left her. Jacaerys assumed she realized that what her son was holding in his arms was the empty shell of the woman she considered her daughter.
"Jace." she said tentatively, looking at him from a distance.
He looked at her too and saw that her eyes were welling up with tears.
"She is dead." he said, shame overwhelming his throat. "She is dead because of me. When I announced my plans to her, I never expected she would go behind my back and try to follow me."
The castle courtyard was empty, not a single echo. Not even when the rest of the help came out was the slightest sound heard.
Only when the maesters approached Jace to take you from his arms did he start shouting angrily. "NO! LEAVE HER TO ME. SHE WAS BETTER THAN ALL OF YOU." He paused briefly. "And I failed her."
°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
After his outburst in the courtyard, all he wanted to do was take your body and leave. To leave, to go far away to Pentos, Tyrosh, Lys, or Yi Ti, and find someone who could bring you back, someone who could restore you to how you were just a few hours ago.
Safe and in his arms.
But that would be improper and against your wishes. You were someone who believed in the laws of nature, in the belief that the human body is mortal and will soon return to the place it came from.
You never agreed with the dark magic promised by shadowy figures of other continents. You had been clear about this during the countless conversations you had shared.
Entering your room, he laid you down on the bed and began removing the arrows that had pierced your soft skin. He wouldn't allow the maesters to steal the few remaining minutes he had in your presence.
To his dread and surprise, your wounds were still bleeding. The blood fell onto your bed, staining your white sheets. They were your favorites, and he cursed himself for taking even that away from you.
As he was tending to your wounds, the room's door suddenly burst open.
Startled, he turned toward the deafening sound of the wood and came face-to-face with your children.
Aerea popped out, full of joy, and ran to her father, opening her arms wide to embrace him. Even though he felt a bit numb, Jace lowered himself to her height and held her in his arms.
"Kepa." said your reflection, her black curls freshly washed. Jace cursed himself for noticing this, because the oil she used smelled just like yours. He forced himself not to break down in tears.
"My love." Jace replied, trying his best to smile. If Aerea noticed the red circles inside his eyes, she didn't mention it.
"I'm so glad you're back. I got tired of playing with Elinda all the time. I missed you." She raised her small hand and pushed back a strand of hair that fell into her eyes.
The gesture was an exact copy of yours too. His eyes blurred, and he bit his tongue hard to hold back the tears threatening to spill down his cheeks.
"I missed you too." he said, his voice choked. "Now that I'm back, I plan on never leaving you again. Nor your brother."
Aerys remained silent near the door.
"That's what I hoped for." his daughter said with a smile, before turning her gaze past him. Jace followed her eyes before looking back at her.
"What are you looking for, Aerea?" he asked, even though he was dreading the answer.
"Where is Mother?"
"She’s gone, isn’t she? Mother," Aerys interjected unexpectedly.
Jace withered. He didn't know how to lie; he had never been good at it.
"She is." he admitted, and this time he could not restrain a tear that hung from his eyelids.
Aerea looked upon him with utter wonder. "What do you mean? Gone where? Gone to the North to see uncle Cregan?"
Jace almost sobbed.
"She is dead." whispered his son, and Aerea turned to behold him. "I saw it in my dream. The shafts pierced her armor."
His little girl remained frozen, motioning not within his arms. "I understand not." She said softly. "Where is mother?"
Jace knew he must prove strong. "She’s in a much better place. Her body is still here with us, but her soul has left for the heavens."
Aerea began to weep, and Aerys approached to hold her hand, giving his other to his father. Jace squeezed it.
"Why did she go to the heavens? And why did she not take us as well? Did she not love us?"
Jace willed himself literally to perish. "No, no, she loved you very much. So greatly that she chose to depart to the heavens to protect you."
Aerea sobbed. "Why protect us from there? Why not stay here with us?"
"She was bound to, do you understand? She was bound to be there, to watch over you and everything that happens to you both from above and remove from your path every malevolent obstacle. Now, she can see everything. And for this, you shall always be safe and sound."
"But I want my mother." She wept with all her soul, and Jace held both his children against his chest so that they might release their sorrow. It was the sole thing he could do, and he knew it was not enough.
A little time elapsed, until Aerea fell asleep. Jace summoned one of your ladies to take her to her chamber. Yet Aerys remained.
"Don’t worry, father. It was her choice." said his son comfortingly.
Jace looked upon him miserably. "Was it?"
The little one nodded. "She visited me in my sleep when I saw the dream of doom. She made me swear that I would mention none of it to anyone, save only to tell you after it came to pass. She knew you would blame yourself. Yet it was the last thing she desired. Mother loved you. Her spirit continues to love you through us."
And these very words were what impelled Jace not to abandon the struggle. To continue living for your children and for you, who sacrificed yourself for your family.
He would live for you. He would laugh for you. He would prevail in this war for you.

What We Love We Shall Burn For
Or; When Aegon is assigned a personal guard he didn't expect them to be a woman, much less someone he could love.
A/N; this is my first time posting on Tumblr and English isn't my first language so please excuse any errors :)
Plot Point; this is a No DoD Au, Rhaenyra and her siblings are civil, she is the rightful heir to the throne, her children are legitimate, Aegon doesn't want the throne and the Driftmark incident didn't happen, Aegon is a better person.
Warning; cursing/cussing, alcoholism, mummy/daddy issues.
One-shot; 5.3k words
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.
They say that when a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin. They toss it high up in the air, golden in its glory, waiting for gravity to reach out and deliver the answer. Mad or brilliant.
For Aegon, it seemed like the gods didn't even bother. Much like his mother, they didn't toss the coin in the air, but rather shoved him as far away as they could.
He was a wanker, a jerk, a drunkard. He knew it. Everyone did. And they didn't fail to point it out.
"You're an imbecile, Aegon!" Dear Queen Alicent would spit in her anger, loathing the moment she gave birth to her eldest child.
"You're nothing, if not incompetent. " Otto would add salt to the wound, snarling like what sat across him was not his grandson, but a pig, rolled around in mud. And to him, it might have been just that. Because Aegon's birth was a vain try of enforcing his ambitions. A try that would never see light.
"I fail to understand what made you so incapable in life. " Aemond wouldn't let anything slide, especially after the years of torment he had to endure, courtesy of his brother.
He was a fucking mess. The Red Keep whispered of it, the people of King's Landing laughed at his expense. Every day, a new rumor of him doing something vile came up, and despite it not being true at times, people still pointed their fingers at him.
So he stopped caring.
He didn't wash for days, reeking of alcohol, his breath being almost just as bad, driving everyone away, making him less approachable. His teeth yellowed, and not even chewing leaves could take away the scent of decay that followed him everywhere.
He invited women to his bed, and much to his mother's distaste, they frequented his chambers more than ever before.
He became cruel to the servants, crueler than he had ever been before. A slight against him ended up with cutlery thrown against the wall, screams of anger and to him almost getting beaten up by a stableboy.
But that was Rhaenyra's last straw. Newly appointed Hand of the King, his older sister watched him closely, noting down his antics and trying to come up with a solution.
And despite what Alicent might have had her children believe, she had love for her half-siblings. Aegon was wronged by his parents, a mother too ambitious for her own good and a father absent, uncaring for the well-being of his eldest son. Helaena, a girl of a truly beautiful soul, abondoned in the dark because of her queerness and inability to get used to the terrible ways of the world. Aemond had been the joke of everyone's mouth, a boy once sensitive and kind, turned cold under the burden of Otto's watchful eyes. And Daeron, sent to Oldtown from a young age, to escape the shadow that threatened to swallow his other siblings whole.
Being a mother herself, Rhaenyra pondered what could be done to save Aegon from ruin. But the answer wasn't simple and she came to realize that it was up to him. For the time being, after having taken the advice her husband, Ser Laenor had to offer, she decided to assign Aegon a guard.
"You have to be joking." her brother uttered in disbelief, staring at her through widened eyes.
Rhaenyra drowned the urge to roll her eyes.
"I am not." she stated, standing up straighter. "You could have been hurt badly, or even lost your life. And it's my duty, as Hand of the King, and your older sister, to make sure that this can't happen."
Aegon scoffed and turned to speak, but raising her hand, she stopped him. "I have decided to assign Ser Y/N to you, a truly remarkable knight, eager to swear fealty to both you and the crown. I hope you treat her with the respect she demands and try to be more mindful of your actions."
And that's when Aegon noticed you, the girl in the armor.
°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
In spite of Aegon thinking that having been assigned a female guard would mean he would be free, Rhaenyra’ choice proved him wrong.
You had the security doubled, ordering the guards posted at the gates of the Keep to keep an eye out for possible escapades on his part, had his women thrown out, speaking of propriety and lack thereof, had the kitchen staff questioned, in order to avoid future poisoning schemes and also, emptied all his cupboards of wine, leaving him dry and yearning for the red liquid.
He was never alone. You stood outside his door like a statue, unwilling to move and with a severe expression on your face. Also, every single time he would try to leave for Flea Bottom, you’d be there in less than a minute, dragging his pathetic ass back to his chambers. And he hated it.
He hated you.
Until he didn’t.
Aegon hadn’t realized when he started thinking of how the strands of hair that had escaped your long braid made you appear absolutely breathtaking, how you rushed to his aid in every situation, trying to tower over people much taller than you, how your eagerness to view his sketches and comment on them made his heart flutter hard against his ribcage.
He denied it at first. He thought it impossible for him to have feelings, especially for someone else. He was a loner, vile and cruel, never having given love to anyone. Never having been on the receiving end of it either.
He couldn’t be fond of you. You were a guard, an Arryn at that, long relative of his sister Rhaenyra’s, and obviously of the Old Queen Aemma’s. You shone red in his eyes, signaling enemy territory.
His mother already hated your guts, your eyes reminding her too much of the late Queen’s. She had fought Rhaenyra on making you his guard, but the Hand had insisted. You were to be his.
Now, with you reading your book quietly on the floor of his bed chambers, he gazed at you, taking in your stance. You were spread across his huge green armchair, your book placed upon your lap while your hands held your head above it. You had a small smile on your face, probably reading something romantic.
You had told him once, that when you read, you pictured every single scene in your head, in vibrant colors, much like watching a play. He found that odd. He wasn't unable to read, but his imagination had always been lacking. When he opened a book, he only saw a maester's scribbles on paper.
He sighed and laid his head on the table in front of him. It reached the surface with a bang that made you abandon your pastime and turn to him.
"Everything alright, my prince?" you inquired after making sure that he wasn't in danger.
Aegon lifted his head a bit, the contact leaving a red mark on his forehead, proclaiming his idiocy.
"Quite alright, my lady." he responded, moving his hand in a mock salute way. He took a glance at your eyes, full of worry at his antics, before noticing the burning of your cheeks. You were upset.
Before he opened his mouth to question your reasoning, you beat him to it. "I will ask again, my prince, that you do not refer to me as a lady. I understand that it is with noble intent, but it downplays my accomplishments first as a knight and then as your guard."
You avoided his gaze, embarrassed that you asked anything of the prince, but unwilling to back down now that you've done it.
All Aegon did was smile. "You have my sincerest apologies, Ser Y/N. I forget myself at times. I'm glad you're here to remind me of my place."
You looked at him wide eyed, having taken his response as a comment of your insolence. "I meant no offense, my prince."
"And there was none taken, Ser."

And then Prince Jacaerys' name day arrived. As was expected, the entire Keep buzzed with the excitement of organizing a feast large enough for the entirety of King's Landing to attend. There was supposed to be a tourney, various plays and even a ball, on the third day, as a farewell to the attending lords of the Seven Kingdoms.
Aegon was bored. Sitting upon a wooden chair, perched atop an elevated platform, he gazed at the contestants fighting on the grainy floor. It seemed like his uncle Gwayne was the one whose name had just been called and he was getting ready to hold his ground against a distant cousin of his sister's husband, Laenor Velaryon.
He occupied himself for a moment, betting with Luke and Joffrey who'd be the winner, before turning his head and searching for his guard. But you were nowhere to be found.
He had seen you once this morning, only the moment you guided him to the platform, before leaving him to his mother. The Queen had looked at you with disdain, as if the mere sight of you caused her physical pain, before dragging Aegon away and making him converse with some of her own cousins.
He expected you to come find him after a while, hoping that you only left for a moment so that his mother could forget of your presence, but he was disappointed to find out that he's been wrong. You never came back and he was forced to watch what felt like an endless tourney.
He zoned out for a moment, thinking of you, until Luke nudged him to signal that his uncle had won his match. He clapped along the rest of his family, winking at Gwayne when the redhead caught sight of him.
He shifted in his chair, then leaned back. He caught sight of Aemond, coming late and sitting on the other side of him, just in time for questioning.
"Where have you been?" he asked, looking suspiciously at his brother.
Aemond's cheeks were pink. That could only mean one thing. He was embarrassed.
"Nowhere." the taller boy rasped, clearing his throat after feigning a cough.
"Bullshit." Aegon insisted.
Glancing around to note if anyone was watching, Aemond gave a sigh. "I went to admit myself to participate in the fighting." he admitted begrudgingly. "By mother's orders, it turns out I'm forbidden."
Aegon swallowed the urge to laugh. "Can't have you risking your pretty face."
Aemond turned to glare at his older brother. "I might have been forbidden because mother attempts to protect me, but she isn't mindful of others."
Aegon frowned. Others? "What is that supposed to mean?"
But before Aemond could answer, a few more words were uttered by the announcer, freezing Aegon's whole being. "Now, Ser Y/N Arryn will be facing Ser Tyvan Lannister!"
And through the tunnel came you, your hair tied back in a tight braid, no piece of it sticking out. You wore a mask of pure determination, holding your lance at your hand and looking at your opponent from across the field.
Ser Lannister moved first, coming to the platform with an arrogant smile. His golden hair reflected the sun, and his green eyes shone brightly. "I would ask the Lady Arryn for her favor." he paused with a laugh. The audience laughed with him. He was aiming to downplay your position, clearly against the idea of a woman sharing the same titles as him. He only saw you as a pest. "But I fear that's not possible. Lady Rhaena, would you grant me your favor?"
Aegon's cousin, proper and pretty, the spitting image of her mother, stood up, after taking her parents' permission. She gazed at the lion through her laces and gave him her pink handkerchief, her initials stitched perfectly on it. If she was bothered by his excessive comment, she didn't show it.
He took the cloth with the same air of arrogance as before, gripping it into his hands, before lifting his arm up and letting it sway with the wind. He returned to his place, after shooting you a look full of poison, something that no one else could see.
You approached the platform with quiet steps, your horse abiding by your every command. Carefully, you placed your helmet under your arms, before jumping down from the horse and bowing to the royal family.
"I wish for Princess Rhaenyra's favor, if she's willing to pass it to me." you said, humble and awaiting your future Queen's answer.
Aegon couldn't take his eyes off of you. You looked regal, beautiful in a way you never had before. He could sense your anxiety, but admired your persistence more.
Rhaenyra smiled, nodding her head and placing a crown of rose petals upon your lance. "I grant it." she told you. "I wish you the best of luck, cousin."
And then the fight began.
Ser Lannister and you managed to both break two lances, before you gained the upper hand. You calculated your opponent's movements and held your ground exactly as you should. Tyvan tried to be sneaky about it, aiming for your shoulder, but you avoided his wooden stick, hit him right in the chest and knocked him right off his horse and into the muddy floor.
There had bearly been a moment of silence, the watchers pausing at the unexpected turn od events, before everyone erupted, clapping their hands and congratulating you on your victory.
Aegon was awestruck, looking at you with both surspise and pride. You had won.
You beat your next two opponents too, a Bolton of the north and a young looking Penrose.
But then, you had to face Ser Criston Cole.
It was no secret that the knight was the best fighter in King's Landing. Having been appointed to his post by participating in a similar tourney in the past, he had to withhold his image. He had to win.
And he did.
You fell into the ground with a loud bang, almost breaking your arm in the process. Your head hit the floor, and because you were wearing a helmet, the metal clipped your cheeks.
He hadn't played dirty, and you were grateful for that, but you were humiliated. Lifting yourself up from the ground, you wiped some dirt off, before nodding to the winner and heading back to your tent with your tail between your legs.
°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Aegon found you taking your breastplate off with some difficulty, the arm that hit the ground aching like it had gotten cut off. He watched you attempt to take control of your limps, though it was impossible.
"Let me." he said, stepping into the tent.
You froze for a second and stood stiffly before recognizing the sound of his voice. Immediately, you dropped yourself on a chair adjacent to where you were, and lifted your head pathetically.
You planned to avoid his gaze, way too embarrassed after your defeat, but you needed at least someone to realize that you were not okay. And Aegon was the right person.
You looked at his face, your eyes full of wet matter. "I'm sorry." you whispered, moved by the intensity his own gave back.
"There's nothing to be sorry for."
"But there is." you insisted. "Everyone knows I'm your sworn knight. By failing, I also humiliated you in the process. And Rhaenyra too."
Your voice broke at the last word and you finally averted your gaze. You stuffed your working hand into your mouth, trying to muffle the incoming sobs.
Aegon stared intently at you, taking in the big bruise that was forming on your cheek. It was purple, and dark, but in his eyes, it symbolized your spirit. Fearless and unable to bend. Under any circumstances.
"I feel not embarrassed." he said softly, taking the rest of your armor off with precision. "I'm actually quite proud. You handled everything with grace, won three matches against men on your first tourney and even reached the final one. Aye, you might have lost, but it was against the Keep's greatest warrior. You did well."
You felt your cheeks burning at his words, not expecting your prince to utter them.
In all truth, you found yourself in love with Aegon.
You had been in his company for the last five months, sent by your lord father to learn the ways of the sword in the yard of the Red Keep. You hadn't expected to be singled out by Rhaenyra to safely guard her brother.
You were a woman. And though you knew your entire life that you were meant to be a knight, many people didn't take you seriously.
As did Aegon, at the start. He thought he could avoid you, bribe you, drive you off with his constant drinking and whoring. Maybe he thought that you'd get disgusted quickly and ask to abandon your post.
But you were nothing if not persistant. So you stayed. And you didn't know when it happened, but Aegon won you over.
He was an artist, sketching on paper left and right with coal brought over from Lys. He was talented beyond measure and it was a part of him that no one knew. And he showed you. You still remembered the way he had drawn you, sleeping against a pillar after tirelessly guarding him, capturing every single detail of your face.
He was also overlooked, and everything he did was for attention. His mother hated you, for reasons unknown, but she hated him too. In that, you found common ground.
And just when you started realizing that Aegon wasn't so bad, you found yourself yearning for his presence. And you knew.
"Thank you." you rasped, nodding your head his way.
"Y/N." he started, waiting for you to look him in the eye. When you did, he continued. "I'd like for you to attend tonight's ball."
Your eyes widened and your heart did a backflip. Sure, you were mistaken. "I will be attending, as your knight." you spoke.
Aegon shook his head. "No. Come as part of the court. Have a night off. You deserve it."
"I'm sorry, my prince, but I must refuse." you said hurriedly and stood up. "After losing, coming in court without my armor would seem like I abandoned my post. Like I'm passing on my position. I don't want anyone to believe that, unless you ask me to."
Aegon stood straight. "You're right. I apologize." and with that he left, leaving you on your own, unable to understand why you kept dodging his every attempt of help he had to offer.
°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Aegon looked at the dance floor, twirling his glass of red wine before taking a big sip from it. You had 'forbidden' him from drinking alcohol, but your absence at his side gave him the room to disobey your commands.
He hadn't seen you since you met up at your tent. Embarrassed by your rejection, he didn't dare seek you out and try to convince you to join him in his misery.
It appeared that you didn't even want to. You sent another knight at your post and with him arrived a letter which informed Aegon of your inability to come. "I am feeling rather ill." you wrote, your letters curved and beautiful, the touch of your hand barely grazing the parchment. "I apologize, but I will not be attending tonight's feast."
He pretended he wasn't hurt, swallowed his water down and then ordered for a large cup of Dornish wine to be served to him.
And just like that, he found himself staring at the merry couples, dancing to cheerful songs and laughing like there was no tomorrow.
His nephew, Jace, was spinning his Lady Love, Baela, careful enough to avoid collisions, but daring enough to call attention to their person. He had a smile stretched across his face, his eyes never leaving Baela's, and one could say that if love had an incarnation, that was it.
Aegon sighed, a frown taking place between his brows. He liked Jacaerys, despite his mother's attempts of distancing her children form his sister's. But most of all, he envied him.
Not because of the throne, but because, even though he was younger, he had everything Aegon could only dream of. A caring mother, a present father, siblings willing to risk their lives for his own and a woman he'd marry in a second, if given the opportunity.
He never had that. Any of it. He and his siblings weren't as close with each other, his parents even more distant and he could never find someone to love him. Someone he could love. Unless...
"What's troubling you, brother?" Rhaenyra asked, settling in the chair adjacent to him.
"Nothing of importance." he avoided answering her question honestly.
She looked at him as if she could see right through him, and he wanted to shrink to himself, open a hole and crawl deep inside.
"I'm bored." he responded. And that was the closest thing to the truth. Because without you by his side, he was bored.
"I'm sure that's not quite right." she mused, lifting her eyebrows in an awaiting way.
He drowned the urge to groan. Lifting his palm and squeezing his face, he looked at her through his fingers. "What do you want from me?"
Rhaenyra laughed slightly. "I want nothing of you, but your contentment. And it's clear you're the furthest thing from it. What is wrong Aegon? Mayhaps I can be of assistance."
He shook his head, looking her in her eyes. "No one can."
"Then it's worse than I expected."
He thought for a second, if he should bring up the subject of affection to her. Rhaenyra was known to be generous with her love, his own mother having been her friend once, but he was awkwardly aware that he would be ridiculed for admitting to feeling things.
But telling Rhaenyra was his last resort.
"When you're in love." he started hesitantly. "Is it normal for you to miss being in their presence."
His sister looked at him with delight in her eyes. A small smile threatened to escape her mouth, but she managed to push it down. "Are we talking about a certain knight of yours?"
He flushed red. "No! No." he said far too quickly for his liking. "I'm speaking in general."
"Sure." she pursed her lips, but didn't try to force him to tell her. "It is completely normal. You crave their attention, more than ever before and you wish to be at their presence at any given moment."
"And when do you know if it's requited?" he questioned softly, as if the answer would hurt him. And in truth, it would. Because your absence confirmed your standing. You didn't accept his invitation, therefore, you didn't crave his company as much as he did yours. You didn't love him, it was purely duty on your part.
Rhaenyra sighed, and touched his cheek. It was the most motherly touch he had ever received, despite it being by the hand of his elder sister. "You never know, Aegon, unless you put yourself out in the open, admit to your own feelings and trust the person to return them." she paused, staring at his violet eyes that were full of uncertainty. "I'd suggest you do it sooner than later. If it concerns Y/N, her father reached out to me today. He's been thinking of offering her hand to some Tarly lord."
Aegon's whole being froze. Wordlessly, searched Rhaenyra's face for any sign of lying, but he found none. His sister was telling the truth.
He gulped down a large amount of saliva, before taking his sister's hand in his own. "If I do it." he started. "If I call upon her and profess my feelings, and if she returns them, will I be able to marry her?"
He knew it was difficult. With him being the King's eldest son, he always knew he had to have a political marriage. Love was never in the picture. But he couldn't see himself standing next to anyone else, waking up to a face different to your own. He had to hope that it would be possible.
And Rhaenyra pleasantly surprised him. "I don't see why not."
Having been forced to marry for duty, she knew how miserable it could be. She and Laenor did have an understanding between them, but she craved the possibility of being wed to someone she felt romantic love for, not just platonic.
"She's an Arryn, part of the most important family in the entire Vale. She's a cousin of mine, and it could work as recompensation to our father remarring after my mother's death. Their line could be tangled with the royal family once again, thus I don't think her lord father would object."
Suddenly feeling giddiness, Aegon went to respond, but he was interrupted by Ser Arryk.
"Your presence is requested in the gardens, my prince." he said, looking down at the conversing siblings.
Giving Rhaenyra one last grateful look, Aegon stood up and marched out of the great hall.
°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
You were standing behind a bush, nervous for Aegon to approach. You fiddled with your fingers, rubbing over your knuckles time and time again, urging your nerves to calm down. But they just couldn't.
You wore a plain blue dress, a reminiscent of the fact that you were an Arryn, but not nearly luxurious enough, your hair unbraided and flowing down your back.
When you left the Vale for King's Landing, you didn't bring many dresses with you, hoping that you'd be able to be in your armor as much as possible.
And your prayers had been answered, because you were always in uniform, except from when sleeping.
But right now, you cursed yourself. If you had brought an adequate amount of dresses, you'd be more beautiful, more pleasant and proper for meeting the man who had stolen your heart.
As you were overthinking about every damn decision you had ever made, you nearly missed the sound of crunching leaves from behind you, signaling that someone joined you.
Hurriedly, you turned around and came face to face with the most breathtaking violet eyes you had ever seen.
"My prince." you greeted quietly.
But Aegon didn't respond. He was a stone statue, looking at you like he had never seen you before, his mouth gaping open at your sight.
Blushing, you tried to approach him again. "I apologize for the inconvenience, for getting you out here in the cold instead of the warmth of the great hall."
That finally moved Aegon. "Nonsense." he uttered. "I prefer your company much better."
You leaned forward, stepping closer to him. "I wanted to ask your forgiveness, for my abruptness earlier. It was foolish of me to reject your proposal. My feelings were a bit hurt over my failure and I couldn't see reason."
He simply stared, letting you speak.
"I thought of coming in and seeking you myself, but knowing all those lords that saw me fall were inside, I couldn't find it in myself to do it. But, you seemed to truly wish for my presence in the morning, so I showed up to please you. If only for a moment."
He didn't answer still, and you took that as him not wanting you here. Mayhaps he just wanted to appear kind earlier and you read too far into it.
So, nodding your head, you turned around to walk back into the Keep.
But his voice stopped you.
"I missed you." Aegon rasped, walking to stand in front of you, blocking your exit. "I missed your presence at my side, your wit, your laugh."
Your breath got stuck into your throat and you were unable to move.
"I kept turning around to tell you of my assessments of people, but you weren't there, just some borish, old hag you had sent in your place." he continued.
"While I was sitting at my chair, my patience running thin, all I did was think of you. Of whether you'd enjoy the foods they served, of whether you'd like to dance with me, of how you'd laugh if you saw that dumb Lannister that mocked you trip and fall on his face."
You laughed quietly and he stretched his arm to touch your cheek. You didn't pull away.
"But most of all, I thought that you are the prettiest woman I've ever seen. No one of them compared to you."
You stood there, unable to speak, leaning into his hand. You raised your own to grip his forearm and he pulled you closer, if that was possible.
"I saw Jacaerys and Baela dancing." he told you. "But all I could actually see was me and you in their place, ignoring everyone around us, eveloped in each other's arms. And I want you to know, I want that."
Your brain ceased to function, the wheels having a hard time turning. All this time, he felt the same.
"My prince." you whispered but he stopped you.
"Aegon." he voiced determinedly. "It's just Aegon to you."
"Aegon" you echoed with finality.
The cool air of the Keep's gardens faded into memory as he stepped closer, the silken doublet covering his chest rising and falling slowly against the velvet of your dress. Under the dim, flickering lights of the fire torches, the hushed murmur of the feast inside was just a distant whisper.
When he reached his other hand to brush as stray lock of your hair behind your ear, his touch was surprisingly gentle for a man everyone thought so vile.
As you met his gaze, any remaining hesitation vanished. You knew he wanted you as much as you did him. He desired you as much.
Though, what began as a gentle touch deepened into a lingering kiss, sweet and full of unspoken words. The rest of the world faded away as you breathed in his scent and you found yourself unwanting of ever having to part with him.
He surprised you by pulling away first, but lingering close enough, his nose grazing yours.
"Marry me." he whispered against your lips, stealing your air both literally and metaphorically.
That sobered you up. You were kissing a prince. As an unwed maiden. A prince you could never truly have.
"What?" you inquired, taken aback.
"I love you, Y/N. Maybe not from the start, but after getting to know you, my heart started beating only for yours. My being burns for your affections, I crave your essence more than humanly possible. For I am a man, willing to lay myself bare, if that means you can care for me in return."
You hadn't noticed, but tears had started running down your cheeks, tears that Aegon wiped away while cradling your face in between his palms.
"I do return them." you rasped, grabbing his forearms tight, as if they were the only thing holding you up. "I return them to an endless degree. But it is not possible. You are a prince of the realm. And I'm but a knight. A lowly knight, sent to serve you."
"There's truth in that." he admitted. "But you're also an Arryn. A cousin of the heir."
You shook your head. "No sane man would wed me." you tried to plea. "I'll always resent being a lady if that means I have to foreshake my passion. And again, you're a prince. You're-"
"Rhaenyra already agreed to the match." he retorted, stopping your spiral. "And I'll do anything to have you agree too. You want to be a knight? Be my guest. You want me to beg on my knees? Gladly. Just don't leave me. You're the first person to ever care."
Rhaenyra's accepting took you by surprise. It almost meant everything was solved.
"And what of my father?"
"I'll speak with him on the morrow. But I'm sure he'll agree too. I'm a prince, far better than a Tarly."
You furrowed your brows, but he didn't explain.
"But I want your answer." he continued. "I want you to say yes, to accept my proposal, to wish to be my wife."
"If you think I'd refuse, you're dumber than I expected."
He didn't get mad. He didn't scream, or hit, or cry. He just smiled softly. Gazed at your eyes and leaned in to kiss you again.
"That I am. But what I am most of all, is a man, foolish enough to fall in love. And you happen to be the cause of my demise."
You beamed in return.
"Then let you be the cause of my demise too."

When you hear 'my moon, my man' you think about ilya rozanov and shane hollander, when I hear 'my moon, my man' I think about Valarr Targaryen.
We're not the same.
