PSA to artists!

If you’re wanting to start taking commissions, or are already available to commission but looking to get more clients, the appropriate course of action is to do up a nice commission sheet and advertise, and build up a following to advertise to. Easier said than done, I know; monetizing creative work is hard.

What you should not do is DM people you don’t know, ask them if they have any OCs (which, if you knew the person, you ought to know) and ask them to commission you.

That is poor etiquette. It is entitled and invasive behavior. It is not going to endear you to potential clients, and is frankly more likely to get you blocked than get you a sale.

Clients come to you. That’s how offering a service works.

Hunting down potential clients and contacting them first to ask them to buy the service you’re selling is what telemarketers do.

Nobody likes telemarketers.
