It is honestly incredibly scary to see the shameless rise of racist sentiment towards Indian students coming to study in Canada. Especially on social media under any post featuring and indian there will be comments about how Indian neighborhoods “smell” and how Indians aren’t assimilating to Canadian culture so they should be kicked out. It’s one thing to believe that immigration should be curbed or even that there is a lack of adequate assimilation, but why do racist generalizations need to be used in order to make your point? When did it become okay to show the world all of your bigotry without any shame? Also why is the blame placed on individual immigrants instead of a government that allows people to immigrate without the means to properly support them, just for the sake of making money off of their overpriced international tuition? It’s gotten so bad that me and my sister who’ve lived here our entire life feel uncomfortable in our white Italian neighborhood. I’ve had bad experiences here that I haven’t even had in the rural southern United States. The tone of society here has changed in some intangible way, the “vibes” are really bad and Canada is the last place I expected to see this happen. People will hold onto anything and blame anything to find a solution to problems that the government can’t or won’t address. I’m not excusing racism, but it’s clear that’s what has lead to this way of thinking. Those who leave racist comments online are proving nothing but their lack of education and intelligence. I’m genuinely getting so sick of this. Someone needs to do something. Please let me know if you guys have any personal experiences with this too.

I've just come back to my hometown from university, and I've realized that none of my friendships are based on enjoyable shared activities. I love a good catch-up session, but those frankly get boring, and make me not really want to see the friend again if I don't have major updates to give them. A simple game of cards or playing a video game with a friend would be so nice, but I feel that gender norms about how girl hangouts are supposed to look make these activities feel childish and immature. But I'm sick of it. Trying to get my friends to come out and play badminton or go downtown with me is such a chore between summer jobs and family obligations. Another thing I've noticed, guys my age tend not to have this problem. My guy friends have other guy friends that are always down for anything, and it feels like they get to have more fun as a result. Honestly, I'm a little jealous of it sometimes. I'm not trying to blame women or men here, it's just a frustrating difference in culture. It could just be that my specific female friends aren't the spontaneous type or even that I'm not spontaneous enough. I just think that if I have to tell the same 3 stories to yet another friend I might have to end it all. Not to mention that if you don't have a MAN to talk about, you often feel left out because your other friends are chatting about men all the time. Even if they aren't, it feels like a confirmation of your feminity and maturity to talk about one guy or another, even if they don't mean much to you. Talk about failing the Bechdel test. Again, no individual woman is at fault here, if anything, what we've been taught about how we should behave and relate to each other is to blame.
