There's always a moment of intense cultural whiplash whenever I realize I'm talking to someone who thinks "legal" and "illegal" are meaningful categories and ascribes innate goodness to following the law. It's like meeting a space alien.

The difference, is that we have for the most part put that behind us, while the US is just sinking deeper and deeper into it. We're not perfect, and we were a lot worse in the past. But it has been a while since we were the problem

I absolutely hate when you ask someone what their politics are and they say they’re “not into politics” like how the hell can you say yr “not into politics” when it directly impacts you and the people you care about. I didn’t ask you if u like puppies or kittens. I asked you what you think about the white men who sit on metaphorical golden thrones, piss on the poor, jerk off to women’s tears, get drunk while children are dying from hunger, murder people because of their race, and control our lives. If that doesn’t sound like something you would risk your life to change or even just vote against then you are no better than those white men.

I finally realized that it did not work because life was asking me to keep becoming, not to keep settling. For so long, I thought losing it meant losing my chance at happiness, when it was only making room for a life that fit me more honestly. In the end, some paths only seem beautiful until you realize how much of yourself they would have required you to leave behind. Looking back, I am grateful that life loved me enough to say “no” to the future I was too afraid to outgrow.

Feeling like you're too much is honestly one of the worst feelings to possibly exist. It just feels like you need to stop being yourself and existing all together. It's like you crawl out of your own skin and laugh in disgust at what remains, it's pathetic. And so saddening.
