I think the difference between most mainline Clark Kents and Smallville's Clark Kent is Smallville Clark hates being an alien, but most Clarks love being an alien and just hate being discriminated against. And I think that's one of the biggest issues with Smallville

While watching the show, I found really strange that so many people said Lex's villain arc was poorly written. With each episode I felt it would be completely reasonable for him to launch a missile at Smallville (obviously with Lionel there) and kill everyone, it's a town full of unbearable people. BUT now I understand what they meant. He magically becomes evil at the start of season 5, and that he achieves level 33.1 in season 4 is incredibly forced, it was a Clark Kent-level attempt at gaslighting the viewer. Yes, his villain arc was forced, they gave him a million reasons to be a villain but decided not to use any of them for fear of admitting for even a second that the rest of the cast was being a little mean to him, and ruined it.

glad that it took clark literally 10 seasons and a trip to an alternate world to get that there's no such thing as "evil luthor's blood that makes you inherently evil" and that it was all lionel's upbringing fault

is it REALLY such a crime that some of lex's biggest hobbies are investigating mysteries, tracking down ancient artefacts, and theorizing about aliens. in any another show this would make him the main character

Clark as an allegory for special needs kids and how they’re at higher risk of experiencing abuse and neglect from well intentioned parents who have a lack of resources and knowledge and community support, like Clark got broken in very specific ways to showcase how important it is to see child rearing as a community endeavor, how important it is to ask for help when you need it and not let stress and fear crack you down to your barest parts, because though the Kent’s undoubtedly adored him, they were not equipped for a “special” kid
