I wanted to write a casual post imagining how a brothers relationship between Lex and Lucas would be, similar to those posts with two or three paragraph I always see. Since I write in spanish and then translate it into english, I put everything in a word document first. My casual post is six pages long!!!!! It's not even complete; I included how Lucas's relationship with Lex and Clark would be like, but haven't even touched everything I thought about Lana. Why can't I have short, concise thoughts like everyone else? Everyone is going to get bored before they even finish reading this bible!!! Should I split it into several posts? That way I can pretend there’s a whole active conversation about Lucas and Lex being brothers, instead of just me talking about it once and at MASSIVE length. Should invent a special hashtag for them? Does one already exist? Still I don't understand how it became six pages long when thought it would be four paragraphs at most.

Smallville! Clark being one of the most depressed but also one of the more inarticulate versions of Clark is something dreadful because he is almost completely incapable of describing the anguish he feels for merely existing to anyone. I see him speaking with others on the show- humans and aliens- and there is a cruelty in their lack of understanding. His experiences and existence is so disorienting for him, so isolating and in the beginning, down right body horror-esque. All he wants is for someone to understand or even just listen to his poor attempts at explaining his plights but every time he’s made out to be selfish, ungrateful or self loathing. But are his wants any more selfish than any person’s desire for community? Can he be eternally and unwaveringly grateful for a power that has brought him so much hardship? Can he grow up hearing he is the center of the universe for so many people without feeling responsible when those people’s lives fall apart or end?
Clark spends five seasons pleading to just be normal before just giving up and turning himself over to his destiny. He said he wanted to be normal so many times it sort of lost it meaning but what he meant is he wants to be able to want for a future with the same ferocity as his human peers without feeling like he is compromising his identity or unfairly getting ahead. He wants to make mistakes without the world shattering. He wants to feel whole in mediocrity; that he is worthwhile even if all he accomplishes is waking up and being kind. He wants to love and be loved. He doesn't want blind devotion or a relationship on the foundation of lies; he wants ease and mundanity that he can infuse with the spark of life by being around people he cares about.
There is something so soul crushing that he feeling a life like that is out of reach for him. I watch the light and optimism drain from his eyes with every passing episode and just hope he finds joy again before the darkness takes him. This season he doesn't try to stop brainiac when it tries to kill him as a baby so he never exist and him explaining to Chloe why feel so much like suicide that I almost threw up.

Pete Ross is a funny character because it's like he doesn't understand the meta subtext of Clark's powers as a metaphor for homosexuality, so he sees only the surface level cool powers stuff and wants to replicate that and get all the bitches also and even when CLARK corrects him on it like no Pete I'm not a super chad straight dude I'm actually a little pathetic queer boy Pete STILL doesn't get it. Very funny to compare Pete who is a raging hetero who doesn't understand this to Lex the bisexual city menace who does, in fact, get it, and thus become Clark's best friend.

While watching the show, I found really strange that so many people said Lex's villain arc was poorly written. With each episode I felt it would be completely reasonable for him to launch a missile at Smallville (obviously with Lionel there) and kill everyone, it's a town full of unbearable people. BUT now I understand what they meant. He magically becomes evil at the start of season 5, and that he achieves level 33.1 in season 4 is incredibly forced, it was a Clark Kent-level attempt at gaslighting the viewer. Yes, his villain arc was forced, they gave him a million reasons to be a villain but decided not to use any of them for fear of admitting for even a second that the rest of the cast was being a little mean to him, and ruined it.
Smallville, from Lex's perspective, was a psychological horror. Imagine being in an enmeshed relationship with a parent who delights in tormenting you, whose mere presence in the same space sucks all your joy, hopes and enthusiasm, who will never provide you with the unconditional love and affection that you, as a child they brought into the world, are entitled to but who would also never leave you alone in peace because they consider you as a possession and extension of themselves. The world sees you and sees a man who has everything, who never knew hunger or thirst and who has all the material comforts and luxuries that others can only dream of. So, you aren't allowed to complain. Should you not be grateful for all that you have? So, the child whose privilege never protected him from abuse must be silenced. He must be kept locked up somewhere deep within the man. He can lash out, cry and scream but he just won't be audible to anyone.
