we were soooo robbed of girl dad james bond.
like madeline tells him mathilde isnât his kidâand surely james knew that was a lie because he has eyes, but he accepts that madeline isnât ready to give him the truth. it wouldnât really matter to him in the end anyway, because the kid was madelineâs so he would protect her with his life regardless.
mathilde wakes james up the next morning and says sheâs hungry. so he finds a kidâs show for her to watch while he cooks and he very carefully peels an apple for her. he watches her take a bite and asks how it is, and when she says that itâs good, his mouth scrunches like heâs trying not to grin.
james wouldâve done literally anything for that kid. wouldâve let her put bows in his hair and wouldâve tied her shoes and wouldâve listened very seriously as she confided to him about bad dreams. this is a guy who loves so wholly, so entirely. he protects just as fiercely. he was literally made to be a dad and iâm actually so upset that he didnât get that.
thinking about how james bond just wanted to love and to be loved.
when he told vesper that he loved her on that beach, quit his job for her almost immediately, said he wanted to sail the world aimlessly with her. when sheâs drowning and he realizes he canât save her, he just reaches for her. just wants to hold her. when he pulls her out of the water, short of breath and exhausted and shaking, and gives her the little air left in his lungs to try and save her.
when mâs order nearly killed him and he came back, a kicked dog returning with a bird, to help her. because he knew she needed him. when he blew up his childhood home for her without hesitation, when he fought an army to get to her. when he held her while she died, tried to make her laugh, kissed her forehead once she was gone and closed her eyes.
when he thought madeline had betrayed him, had compromised him, and he just⌠let her go. when he found out madeline had a daughter and, even though she insisted he wasnât the father, woke up to make the kid breakfast. when madeline continued to insist he wasnât the father and he groveled at safinâs feet, apologized and surrendered to save the kidâs life.
james bond was doomed from the start. made of love and loyalty in a world that demanded a coldness he was never capable of delivering. like skyfall burning in that barren winter field, he was destined to turn to ashâonly after glowing bright and brilliant and brief.
I just love them so...
...in or out of character.
They just make me happy.

And Bond, if you could avoid killing every possible lead, it would be deeply appreciated.
Once again Cicerâs tags are 100% accurate
characters who view themselves as tools/weapons first and people second⌠characters who martyr themselves for a cause because they think thatâs the only way they can be worth something⌠characters who push themselves past their breaking point again and again and again⌠characters for whom devotion and masochism are inseparable⌠characters whose self-sacrifice becomes self-annihilationâŚâŚ what was my point again? i had a point. anyway.
A+ example of how the media manipulates people for clicks and anger engagement.
Well said Daniel. đđđđđđ
Just taking a male character and making him female.
No! Itâs not good enough. You create a new female character and let us get to know her, on her own terms.
Not simply riding on the back of a male character.
Exactly the same with just blackwashing a white character. No!
Thatâs not âdiversityâ. Create a new black, latino, asian etc character, to be known on his/her own merits.
If itâs a real person being portrayed. Tell the stories of real black, latin, asian etc people. And make sure that he/she is played by someone of the same race and sex as the actual person of the past.
Dammit. Itâs not as though weâve already heard every story that there is to be told. đ
I feel strongly that what an author commits to paper is sacrosanct and shouldnât be altered. It stands as evidence of attitudes at a particular moment in time
Iâm Ian Flemingâs biographer â thereâs no way James Bond can be made âPCâ (The Independent, Feb. 27, 2023) I feel strongly that what an author commits to paper is sacrosanct and shouldnât be altered. It stands as evidence of attitudes at a particular moment in time By Andrew Lycett Ian Flemingâs books have now followed Roald Dahlâs and been pruned of potentially offensive references on the advice of a new tribe of sensitivity readers. But itâs never a good look to change what an author originally wrote. It smacks of censorship, and thereâs seldom much mileage in that. Of course, there are words and phrases in the Bond novels which look out of place today. References to race, as in the ethnicity of the barman in Thunderball, have reportedly been removed from a new edition of the 007 oeuvre, along with the description of a striptease in Live and Let Die. However, I feel strongly that what an author commits to paper is sacrosanct and shouldnât be altered. It stands as evidence of that writerâs â and societyâs â attitudes at a particular moment in time, whether itâs by Shakespeare, Dickens, or Ian Fleming. The only changes to the text should come from the author. So Fleming himself allowed the title of a chapter heading in Live and Let Die, published in 1954, to be altered in subsequent editions because it used an offensive racial stereotype. But thereâs no way Bondâs character in the Fleming books can be modified to make him politically correct. Fleming created a sexist, often sadistic, killer, with anachronistic attitudes to homosexuals, and to a range of people of different nationalities. These stand as evidence of how Britons (or at least some of them) thought at a particular moment in time. Posthumous âcontinuation novelsâ like the later Bond novels written by Anthony Horowitz can initiate changes if required, though the secret agentâs behaviour in these is surprisingly familiar â except that he no longer smokes like a chimney or drinks quite as much. Films have more licence in this regard. Consequently EON, the producers of the James Bond movies, have tried to make the central character more sensitive â and even a family man â in the latest instalment of the franchise No Time to Die, which appeared in 2021. But often in the past, when they have attempted any softening of the character, they have returned to the original hard man of Flemingâs books. I have some perspective on this since, as well as writing a biography of Fleming, I have also written one on Rudyard Kipling, the Anglo-Indian author who kick-started his career with Plain Tales from the Hills, a collection of witty short stories about the Raj. As a young journalist in India in the later 19th century, Kipling admired the British administration, became a committed imperialist, and thereafter turned his back on any expression of Indian political self-determination. But while several of his attitudes would be dismissed today, his work â with all its felicities and imperfections â should be left untouched, as it vividly represents how society operated during his lifetime. As a result, his output has found new favour in modern India, not least as a historical source which is studied for its vivid description of the late colonial period. Similarly, Fleming can be read â along with his contemporary Kingsley Amis â for his sophisticated journalistâs take on the mindless materialism of a society emerging blinking into the world after the deprivations of war, eager for new experiences which include foreign travel and sensual pleasure. He stated uncompromisingly that his books were âwritten for warm-blooded heterosexuals in railways trains, aeroplanes and bedsâ. In other words, he was writing for adults on the move in a modern society. The Roald Dahl stories which recently publicised this issue are aimed almost exclusively at children. While young minds should not be exposed to unnecessary cruelty, characters such as the tyrannical Miss Trunchbull in Dahlâs Matilda have emerged unscathed. Children enjoy the frisson which comes from a sense of naughtiness. Otherwise, the pantomime Punch and Judy would not exist. It is possible to preface such books with a warning of potentially offensive material and leave it to a reader, or a parent, to decide how to proceed. Inevitably itâs the big names, such as Dahl and Fleming, which are mainly affected. There is a reason for this, and its name is business. Their popularity means that they are more likely to be filmed or turned into comics, video games, or any other media which copyright holders are drawn to in the promotion of a âfranchiseâ. Andrew Lycett is the author of âIan Flemingâ and âRudyard Kiplingâ, both published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson

James nodded relaxing back into the seat. âIâll figure something outâ James said to him, âI promise as soon as I am recovered I will find somewhere else to live so you do not have to look after meâ James wasnât sure what the dynamic was between them now, how it felt to look after a former agent. His body wasnât in any shape to leave the house for a while he would have to swallow his pride and put his trust in his boss.
âI am prone to PTSD nightmaresâ he said quietly. âAre they likely to disturb you?â
While maneuvering the car through the busy streets of London, his gaze shot over to Bond now and again. He had agreed to providing the agent a temporary home, but anything beyond that was out of the question. Including beings his therapist. That Bond had nightmares was new to him, but didnât really come as a surprise. âNo. It takes a lot more to wake me.â His own nightmares, for example. âI found a cup of tea helps. AndâŚa book sometimes, too.â
James nodded stiffly. He didnât want to set his bossâ PTSD off and have one of them kill each other. âAs soon as I am able I will do what I can to help you around the home until I am well enough to leave.â James offered, he didnât know what to do or say.

âI am well aware of how news travels amongst spiesâ James managed as he laid back in the seat taking deep breaths. âI am thankful for your help sir I didnât think beyond getting back to Six and getting a cureâŚ.I didnât care if I lived or diedâ James felt he could and should be honest considering he was going to be living with Mallory soon. He could still feel Madeleine wrapped around his body see his daughters smile when he made her breakfast. The thought of never seeing them again was like a dagger in his chest.
Mallory hummed, pulling the car out of the parking spot. The wheelchair was left outside; they would somehow manage to get him into the house, and he didnât think Bond was going to move around much in his home, either. âYou made that quite clear.â He shot the agent a quick side-glance. âI have to warn you - I donât cook often, if you want anything to eat, youâll have to take care of it yourself. Or I can hire someone.â

James Bond: a summary
Hahahaha the whole series in a nutshell
007licensedkillerâ:
James relaxed back into the chair his body aching and too exhausted to carry him out. Staff watched him some shocked he was still alive, James pretended not to see them or hear them. Eve Moneypenny stopped Mallory, âI have a car ready sir and have organised medical to send everything Bond requires for his care. Should you need anything else they are happy to send it to youâ
Mallory did his best to walk a route with the fewest people to cross their path, so that Bond didnât have to face them. He understood full well how awkward and uncomfortable it was. He didnât stay long with Moneypenny, either; thanked her, then was on his way again until they were outside. There he helped Bond into the car. âI wonât give out information about you, if thatâs what you want,â Mallory explained. âThough Iâm afraid the news of you being alive will spread like wildfire.â If they hadnât already.

James sat heavily his legs unable to support his weight anymore. He looked at his boss, âI know but being a double oh I never thought I would be like this. I would either be an agent or or be dead I never planned for this.â He thought running away with Madeleine was a good idea but he knew would never stay away forever from Six.
Once Bond sat, Mallory pushed the wheelchair forward, through the door and out into the corridor. It was awkward, yes, but necessary if they wanted to get going today. âYouâre alive, you should be happy. Not every agent can say that about themselves.â They had a short lifespan if they didnât jump out of the plane in time. Or ended up behind a desk instead.

Finally. With a sigh he stood up and left, only to return with a wheelchair barely ten minutes later. âI know it isnât easy. But you have to swallow your pride, Bond.â An eyebrow was cocked up. âYou are not the only one with injuries in this city.â

James slowly forced his body forward gritting his teeth, pain was flaring up his legs but he was stubborn. He could no more than shuffle with his hands clutching the walls. âI refuse to be a crippleâ he said quietly, desperately, he couldnât be weak.
With that speed - or lack thereof? They were going to spend another night in this hospital. Mallory took a deep breath as he was watching the other. Eventually, he shook his head and stood up from the bed. âYou are not a cripple - you are injured. Thereâs a difference.â If Bond thought he was a cripple - then what did he think of Mallory and his bad knee? âNow stop being so stubborn, Iâll get a wheelchair.â
