First Look at Mel Gibson's The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One now slated for a May 6, 2027 release and Part Two on May 25, 2028.
007 First Light Official Launch Trailer
The new James Bond adventure is almost here.
I love hearing the new rendition of the Bond theme.
A nice nod to A View to a Kill (1985). If you know, you know.
I counted at least three girls in the trailer. Who will be the main Bond girl? Sidenote: the bikini-clad girl is arguably the most beautiful woman in the game.
Nice to get another (very) brief glimpse of the gadget car, the Aston Martin Valhalla.
Looks like it’s going to be a full-on globe-trotting adventure.
Now I must mute everything and avoid spoilers, as the game launches on May 27th. I’m waiting for the Switch 2 version, so hopefully we’ll get a release date for that soon.
I also have to avoid fans and media. Sometimes to truly enjoy things you have to ignore them.
I do believe the game will be good, and if it turns out great, that’ll be even better.
I’ll also reiterate a sentiment I’ve had for the past few months: the game has the potential to be Bond’s rebirth.
A movie miracle!

Patrick Gibson is Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 in First Light.
Gibson is currently doing media promotion for IO Interactive's 007 First Light.
The game will also be seen by many gamers and Bond fans as an audition for playing Bond in the films.
He is in the age range they are looking for. He is 31 years old. His most notable role was playing a young Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin.
Of course, his portrayal of James Bond in First Light will determine whether he gains public support for the role in the movies.
Then again, who knows what the new Bond producers, Amy Pascal and David Heyman, are looking for in the next potential leading man.
That said, with this motion-capture and voice performance, he will have more experience playing James Bond than any other young actor currently auditioning for the role.
So far, I like what has been shown of Patrick Gibson’s young and brash James Bond.
I will give my full opinion on his performance once I’ve played the game. I’m waiting for the Switch 2 version, so I have to wait until summer to play it.
For now, he is IO Interactive’s interpretation of Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007.
Out of the renowned names, Henry Cavill is the best choice to play James Bond.
Film critic Armond White remarked in his review of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which starred Cavill as Superman: “Cavill’s dramatic handsomeness recalls young Sean Connery’s exotic virility; his simultaneously otherworldly and legendary aspects suit Snyder’s sensuous action style—textured close-ups of skin and capillaries, jet trails in the sky as he flies, his red cape’s heavy swoosh.”
I agree with Mr. White that Henry has the physical screen presence that matches Connery.
At age 22, Henry auditioned for James Bond during the casting of Casino Royale. In a 2023 interview with the Daily Express, the film’s director, Martin Campbell, said of Cavill’s audition: “He looked great in the audition. His acting was tremendous. And look, if Daniel didn’t exist, Henry would have made an excellent Bond. He looked terrific, he was in great physical shape… very handsome, very chiselled. He just looked a little young at that time.”
Henry has recently ruled himself out of the running, citing his age—he is 43.
But Henry shouldn’t rule himself out. Sir Roger Moore was 45 when he was cast as Bond and went on to play the part for 12 years across seven films. Pierce Brosnan was 42 when he was cast as Bond and played the part for seven years across four films.
Bond fandom is decidedly mixed on Cavill as Bond. I’ve read the debates. Some feel that Cavill is too well known for his roles as Superman and Geralt of Rivia to be Bond. But Roger Moore was well known as Simon Templar in The Saint and Lord Brett Sinclair in The Persuaders! before he was cast as Bond.
If any Bond fan wants anything remarkably close to the second coming of Connery, then Cavill is as close as you’re going to get.
I’ve always had the sense that the media doesn’t want Cavill for Bond and has instead pushed others. For a while it was Tom Hardy, then Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and now Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner.
Bond needs to move away from the influence that Christopher Nolan has indirectly had on the series. However, with Denis Villeneuve in the director’s chair, that still seems to be the direction the franchise is heading.
I doubt Villeneuve would seriously consider Henry if that is the case.
But would producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman consider him?
They are under considerable pressure to satisfy the moviegoing public, and Henry is by far the most popular choice among the general audience. However, current casting is looking for a younger actor in the early 30s range.
This puts Pascal and Heyman in a big predicament. Screwing up James Bond is not something you want on your resume.
Bond needs to move toward a more fun action-adventure thriller and shed the Nolan aesthetic it has partially adopted in recent years.
This is why who is cast as Bond is so important.
“And have you seen their translation of Dr. No?” I (Ken Ferguson) asked.
“Yes, I have. And I enjoyed it immensely. This chap, Sean Connery, is damn good. When I first met him I thought he was a bit on the large side and rugged. But he looks and moves very well indeed which, of course, is important. Intelligent sort of chap too. I think he makes a very good James Bond.” - Ian Fleming
(Photoplay, November 1962)
One thing that is reinforced when combing through Fleming's interviews is that he was very pleased with Connery.
His wife, Anne, affirmed this.

Casting for the next 007 is underway, and I’m not excited at all. What I feel is apprehension regarding the current state of the cinematic James Bond.
I’ve made no secret of the fact that I heavily dislike the choice of director, Denis Villeneuve.
It reeks of the indirect Christopher Nolan influence that was so detrimental to the quality of the films in the latter part of Daniel Craig’s run.
Now for the most important part: the casting of James Bond. I haven’t been excited by any of the potential names the media has thrown out there.
The only casting advice I can give is to look at Sean Connery. He is the template—the blueprint—for the cinematic Bond. All the qualities an actor needs to play Bond should be measured against Connery.
I’m not at all sure what Amazon MGM Studios, Amy Pascal, and David Heyman have in mind...
They’ve only got one shot at this—one chance to prove they are good stewards of the Bond legacy. Right now, I’m not sure they have a clue what they’re doing.
