i was rewatching avatar and sokka and zuko's fight in the second episode… sokka is *literally* the only person defending the village. sokka is a CHILD who prepares for battle alone and stands on the wall alone. he is the only person between the fire nation and children&his grandmother&his sister. and sokka being overpowered is…played for laughs? this is a child doing the best he can to defend his family in an incredibly desperate attack and we're supposed to laugh at him for being beaten
Sokka’s situation is both portrayed seriously AND for laughs, and only in A:TLA could they pull off something like that so well. First, his “watchtower” is shown tobe a pathetic pile of snow (humorous), but when the hulking Fire Nation vesselcompletely destroys it, Sokka’s vulnerability—and that of his village—is onfull display.Â
Likewise, when Sokka and Zuko suit up in matching shots:
Themusic and the framing take it seriously. It’s a parallel, showing that thesetwo teenage boys, though on opposite sides of the war, really aren’t all thatdifferent. Sokka’s initial pose is also heroic:
However, when Zuko and his crew first step off the ship, Sokka iskicked to the frozen curb with a comedic expression:
Themusic turns serious again when the child urges him to show no fear:
Butthen lightens up as Zuko makes short work of Sokka’s staff.
Soit’s not that the scene is played all for laughs, but rather that it’szig-zagging back and forth between comedy and peril. On its face, this seems to be contradictory, but it’s actually sending us a very important message about the threat that Sokka is facing.Â
The points at which the comedic beats occur are not when Sokka is attacking Zuko or defending his village, butwhen Zuko is retaliating. Sokka may be the comic relief here, but it is Zuko’s actions that are being being played for laughs. Zuko is terrible, absolutely terrible at being a bad guy. His methods lack brutality and viciousness. He has no interest in killing Sokka, or inflicting any lasting harm on him. In fact, it’s not until Boomerang hits him on the head that thegloves come off, but when they do, Zuko himself becomes the butt of the joke.
Literally.
And the episode ends with Sokka getting his revenge:
This perfectly sets up Zuko in contrast to the other Fire Nation military, as someone whose heart is not really in the conquest. And in the very next episode, we see that the mammoth bulk of Zuko’s Fire Nation ship …
… isin fact an old clunker next to the top-of-the-line new models like Zhao’s.
It’snot Sokka’s courage that we’re not meant to take seriously. It’s Zuko’svillainy.
i hate aspects of this site but i’m also way less insensitive, ignorant, and prejudiced because of the time i’ve spent here. i came here for humor and ended up exposed to minority voices & POVs I wasn’t even looking for.Â
which was awesome, bc while most of us know we should be learning these things, most of us don’t associate it with something we’d spend our leisure time pursuing & enjoying. minority representation in media, in fun and popular media that people want to view, is so important for exactly this reason.Â
anyway, curate your online experience. make it fun, make it inclusive, fill in your blind spots & unlearn your prejudices while laughing off your ass. Â
There it is. You put it into words. This is really it, this is why I’m here. I’ve been thinking this for so long, unable to articulate the exact feeling for me remaining here. Thank you I am at peace now
One of my friends who is casually into rpg games is getting Fallout nv, literally could not be happier
it was also supposed to be temporaryÂ

Was messing around today with my roommate, playing a game of typeRacer and procrastinating from studying. When in the second race we’re playing we get a quote from KOTOR, it was the bastillas end of game quote if u chose the dark side, or something like that (I’d never heard it, cause the light side will forever be superior) but it just sent such vivid flash backs of the days I would spend playing kotor. Just feel so at peace right now. I wish everyone could just suddenly remember a random facet of their childhood that brought them joy.
So today, I was sitting in an auditorium listening to a lecture on psychology, it was actually going really well. The presenter was really into it and had a entertaining set of slides. So about three quarters of a way through the presentation, I happend to glance down toward the front row. And then I saw a familiar face. For about 5 minutes I sat there thinking about where I recognized it from and trying to place what distant relative or friend it must belong to. I reconglizes the small ears and the sharp tapering of the hair around them. I recognized the short bridge of the nose and the way the dirty blond hair stuck out in front. I recognized the freckles and pale blue ears, and even the slightly visible veins on the neck seemed incredibly familiar. It was so weird I recognized it like it was one of my closest friends, yet I could not place the face. I was about to give up. Then bam it hit me, and let me tell u I had the strongest non-drug induced dissociation of my entire life.
The person I was looking at was me. Almost my exact face down to nearly the smallest detail. Have any of you ever actually seen a doppelganger of yourself in public. Like I’ve heard this fact once or twice before that statistically speaking there are around 7-8 people on earth who look like you. I always thought that either this was just a lie or that 7-8 people in a sea of 8 billion is such a small number that the chance of ever seeing one is astronomically small. That is until today. It is a fucking insane experience.
I felt like the simple fact of seeing some who looked like me shouldn’t have hit me so hard. After all I’ve seen my own face nearly every day in mirror and reflections and constantly on my phone. I think it was the effect of seeing it yet having zero control over its actions that really threw me. My brain was like: “oh this looks like you, so it must be another reflection or copy” them goes to move my head to the side and when my doppelgänger doesn’t move, it just fucking short circuited.
Anyway, crazy experience 10/10 would recommend
KotOR deserves some respect for being the only game to ever make me sway towards playing the evil path
God the legion is fucking awful, and I will fight anyone who says otherwise
Imagine telling some random person in 1930s that the FBIs most wanted criminal, the ruthless mobster that’s suspected of countless crimes of racketeering, murder, and smuggling would someday have bottle heads of himself sold at the 3rd tallest building in Chicago

What exactly is the genetic inheritance involved in bending powers. Like I understand that the offspring of a bender and a non-bender can produce either a bender and non-bender (duh), and that a child of two non benders can still have bending powers. And I guess then it’s also possible for the offspring of a two benders to never develope bending powers, all those make sense.
The part I don’t get is if a fire bender and a water bender have a kid, is it just a 50/50 chance or what. Or would it be more like 25 nonbender/25 fire/25 water/25 idk. Like idk if u can even do punnet squares for this because idk what the two genes being passed forward would be.
Anyway I just thought I would be kinda cool for it to be possible for a normal person (not the avatar) to develope bending powers for more than one element, but not like completely master either, just kind of average at both.
Fallout
Kinda weird how the Brotherhood in both Fallout 3 and 4 uses liberty prime in the endgame of their quests, while not actually representing or preserving democracy in anyway. Like their not actually democratic institutions, their just military organizations with not elected leaders. Especially the Brotherhood from Fallout 4 which is less democratic and almost fascist.
Fallout New Vegas
So you know how the Enclave are the remnants of our government and the Brotherhood are the remnants of our military, well I realized a while back that the NCR are remnants of our people. While the other two groups have glaring flaws that represent them and their pre-war institution as a whole, the flaws contained within the NCR are more personalized to the individual who actually posses them. Kinda representing how society as a whole isn’t flawless, but the people are still the best option compared to the others.
all labor deserves a living wage. end of story.
Hola everybody
I’m new and still trying to figure this out, but my opinion will be herd!! (My opinion is that Zuko given the option, would almost certainly play Fallout New Vegas)
