zen is thorough. every time he kills a user of OFA, he tracks down their families, slaughtering every single trace of the heroes bloodlines. he doesn’t leave a single one alive.

so when that pattern changes after he kills nana, he remains thorough. i don’t believe he simply didn’t know that kotaro existed. i think he was keeping it in his mind until the time was right, and when All Might became a threat he put a plan into motion

this man tracks down and preys on a young family, and uses their already present trauma to his advantage. he sees kotaro’s already simmering distrust of heroes and exploits it, literally convincing them to have another child for his own gain

kotaro wasn’t as dysfunctional before AFO fully involved himself in the shimura family. he was happier, seemed to love his family and his children. but AFO changes all of that. manipulates and radicalises him against heroes, worsens the hurt left by nana.

“i convinced him to become more heavy-handed”

he meddles in this new child’s life from the beginning. from the first moment he sees this baby, he completely strips tenko of every single piece of autonomy and potential. just like what he did to yoichi.

tenko is given a new name, just like yoichi. he is forcibly given a quirk, just like yoichi. he even takes after him physically, emaciated and white haired to better suit AFO’s vision. he’s forcibly assimilated into the shigaraki family

AFO wanted to make his very own replacement of his brother, to have another person to establish control over in every aspect

so he created tomura. but AFO takes it a step further. maybe in a mirror of what he wanted for his brother, he wants to take over tenko’s body, to merge their minds and inhabit him

【 Story Summary 】

After the destruction of Tartarus, the escapees laid waste to cities and forced civilians to evacuate.

For Shigaraki's body to be completed, the PLF evaded the heroes' search and hid in the shadows. However, a certain villain organization, seeking to expand their power, used this opening to attack and capture members of the PLF.

In order to rescue their captured allies, Shigaraki and the PLF members charged forward to take down this rival organization!

There's so much to unpack from this scene, idk where to even start

So. Tomura Shigaraki is associated very heavily and very explicitly with hands, right? Decay is touch-based, he used to wear fucking embalmed hands, and his eldritch horror arc featured yet more hands and fingers.

Tomura Shigaraki is also, canonically, a victim of extreme grooming—AFO planned out his entire life, forced a destructive quirk upon him, taught him hatred, and raised him with the express purpose of eventually body-jacking him.

There is only one thing that I associate with the kind of hand imagery all over his character. It’s not just a nod to his quirk. I think AFO’s abuse was sexual in nature, as well.

This would also track with AFO’s obsession with Yoichi Shigaraki—which was certainly emotional incest, even if we never get confirmation of it being physical.

To be honest, I’m surprised I haven’t seen this interpretation more often. Yes, it’s disturbing, but it is deeply in-line with the disturbing things that we do directly see.

When he took over his body moving the hand to the same place as Yoichi for no reason makes me sick every time I think about it
