Before the Ten Commandments people loooooved stealing from kids. You could just smack candy right out of a kid's hand and laugh at them and everyone would laugh with you because no one knew it was wrong.
But then Moses came down from that mountain and was like "behold! God has said Thou Shalt Not Steal!" And everyone was like "what, even from kids?" And Moses said "Especially from kids, it turns out we were absolutely not supposed to be doing that."
And then everyone was like "awwww but we loved stealing from kids. Hey, we're still allowed to beat our slaves though, right?" And Moses was like "yeah no that's fine as long as they don't die, God said slavery is fine."
And I'm sorry but that's why atheists and those weird pagans from non-Abrahamic religions will just never be as moral as us good Judeo-Christian folk.
would love to hear your thoughts on the other TB members too, even just a quick summary if you'd prefer
Hi anon! Sorry for the wait, I am sadly an adult with a job đ
Anyway! To answer your question, first I must say that excluding Yelena and John, these are all new characters in the mcu so I am limited in how I feel about them but will do my best!
Taskmaster: Getting this out of the way since she was in the movie for 0.02 seconds. I have no opinion other than wishing she was in the movie for more than 0.02 seconds. This character mimics the fighting style of other people which I think would've been very cool to watch in later movies and given that it is likely the mcu will re-boot after Doomsday, I don't think we'll see a rebirth of Taskmaster (at least with the same actress) in the coming years. But I could be wrong given the premise of multiverses.
Ava: Another character we didn't get to learn much about. I always see people saying TB is a Marvel movie that focus on characters and not just action sequences more than others (which is true) but Marvel has an ongoing issue of having large casts that they don't have enough time to develop. I like that she's snarky, would love to know more about her backstory, and really enjoyed her exchanges with other characters. If I were to rate like I did in my Bucky deep-dive, she would be a solid 8 since she hasn't done anything to make me dislike her but I also just don't know much.
Alexie: a little stupid sometimes lol. I actually think TB did a great job with comedic relief and I feel that's what this character represents. Sometimes I thought it was a bit much, but overall, wasn't just a 'guy humor every 3 minutes' type of movie. He did get some depth by the film addressing his struggles of wanting to be a good father and caring, but also not doing a very good job at it. If you haven't noticed already, I REALLY care about having fleshed out characterization. Since we will likely only see TB in Doomsday again before the reboot, I have a suspicion they will make him do a self-sacrificing move for Yelena in the final film to wrap up his character. I'm fine with this because I'm not too attached. (7 rating)
John: I don't like John because I HATE the asshole character trope. I like that his part in FATWS gave him a complex issue (he killed someone but did it in revenge for his best friend) but the side comments he makes and the general gloaty vibe he gives... I just hate this characterization. I always think, "no one acts like this in real life and still has friends." I don't mind when characters have asshole moments, for instance, Tony Stark was by far my favorite avenger before his death and no other hero in the mcu has been given his amount of growth - but sometimes he was an ass. It worked for humor and fit his character in general because he was a billionaire/nepo baby/genius, but he always showed he was more complex and you could always tell he wasn't nearly as selfish as his words would make you believe. Anywhoodle, don't like John but could in the future if he chills out and shows a softer side (NOT him making a sad face thinking about his ex-wife, that is not enough!). Wyatt Russell is very funny though. (3.5 rating)
Yelena: Current favorite character in the mcu. I will forever say that wanting a front-facing job to be less lonely is stupid. That being said, I think Yelena has a lot of depth. She's funny sometimes, sarcastic sometimes, sad sometimes, happy sometimes, a full range of emotions and complexities! And arguably the only female character marvel has gotten right (I've heard good things about Ironheart/Riri being well-written and complex but haven't gotten around to watching the series). Despite doing some bad things in her life, you can see a gentle side to her in how she deals with Bob in TB and how she feels pain for her sister. She's not a very powerful character so I have no idea how she's going to go against Dr. Doom but I can't wait to see her try. Overall, a person with complexities, muddled goals, emotions, and skill, love to see characters like this. Also Flo Pugh was a phenomenal casting for this role. (9 rating, loses one for the front-facing job issue but I'm sure she'll gain it back)
Bob: I really like Bob. I think he kind of reminds me of myself in a very convoluted way. I actually think Bob is a great example for the main reasons I'm not currently fond of Bucky. He clearly has a lot of issues, mentally, with addiction, and also being experimented on (which happens an alarming amount in the mcu) but he remains a character that wants to keep the vibe light, so to speak. He's humorous and attempts to be helpful in a way that makes him very hard to dislike. Very much feels like he's always "just happy to be here." I relate in that I have also had issues in life but genuinely work hard to not transfer those problems to others, to try to do the next right thing. Also, him, Captain Marvel, Thor, and Dr. Strange are basically all we have that stand a chance against Dr. Doom and I have no idea how they'll develop his powers enough for him to be able to fight (given that when we left off he just didn't use them out of fear of becoming the void). Excited to see how they treat his character in Doomsday. (9 rating)
Hii! I just saw your post about Bucky and thought it was a really interesting read. Iâve been following the MCU for a while now, and honestly, Bucky was never a character I cared much about. But after Thunderbolts, I went back and rewatched all the movies with the team, which meant rewatching Bucky too... and now I actually like him a bit more. Still donât love him, but I think heâs definitely more complex and interesting than I gave him credit for.
Your take gave me a new perspective on the Thunderbolts and especially that ending with them being called the ânew Avengersâ (which I personally find kinda ridiculous). Just wanted to add two quick thoughts:
Sometimes I feel like Bucky shouldâve just stayed in Wakanda. He clearly needs therapy, but as he says at the start of TFATWS, those two years there were the closest thing he had to peace.
I also think the Thunderbolts work better as an anti-hero team, more like the Guardians, instead of trying to make them into Avengers 2.0. But it feels like, once again, Valentina was written in a really weak way, and they had to force that âpositiveâ ending for her just to set up a possible return later on.
I should mention, I went off of memory and things people have reminded me off as I intake TB opinions from both sides (I did re-watch Civil War for the post, but nothing else).
I also didn't care much about Bucky's character until TFATWS. It was the first time I genuinely thought "I don't like this dude" which then made me see everything else he did in a different light. Then I started to like him again, it's complicated. I really liked the WS movie (one of the best in the cinematic universe imo) but had no idea where they'd take his character from there and at the time there was SO MUCH marvel content coming out lol.
As for your thoughts!
I understand why they didn't leave him in Wakanda â he is a very interesting character in the comics, though not a very popular one until he hit the big screen. And I think they could've written a fantastic "redemption arc" for him as he struggles to make peace with his past and decide who he wants to be in the future. However, I agree with you that the way he was written, it feels like we just want him to sit down and heal for a while. Because Bucky does NOT catch a break.
I could support the thunderbolts remaining a team (though I think it is OOC for Bucky to just be like "fine, she doesn't have to go to jail"), but it bothers me that the writers would create this flimsy excuse for Bucky and Sam to be fighting, over a NAME. They could've just kept using thunderbolts. Furthermore, I don't think Bucky really needs a team. It's fine if he has one, but for him to just accidentally end up in a team with a bunch of strangers... it needs to be EXPLAINED. The avengers weren't even exactly a team â they came together for bigger issues but had their own plots and enemies outside of one another. Would LOVE to have a standalone Winter Soldier film and he partners with the thunderbolts for bigger things. Especially because he's one of the more notable heros at this time.
Thank you for your ask anon!

u got a point with what u wrote about bucky in thunderbolts (he felt very ooc in that movie) but the part about civil war and tony is bullshit. tony was trying to kill him, its shown in the movie (if u actually pay attention) and the writers said he was trying to hurt steve by killing bucky. so bucky had all the rights to defend himself and not let someone else take his life. u may hate bucky or just dislike him but to prove your point u dont have to change what's canon, use things and arguments that are actually in the movies.
Woah there, buddy. Calm down.
I didn't know what the writers said about Tony's intentions in Civil War. I was going based off the fact that he showed up despite their differences to help Steve - so from my perspective, actually killing Bucky would be going too far since his actions, up until, had shown that him and Steve did have a friendship (despite it being tumultuous). This WAS in the movie, I can't possibly know everything the writers have ever said. But thank you for bringing it to my attention as it does change my perspective.
Since it's canon that the writers did expect him to want to kill Bucky, I don't blame Steve for wanting to save his friend's life, given that Bucky literally had no control over his mind at the time.
All that being said, what I remain to be upset about is the writing of Bucky's character. Bucky in the comics is sarcastic, more powerful, more complex, and not nearly so "everyone around me needs to save me from myself" plot that we get from the movies. The pivot to move from Cap 3 being about Bucky and Steve to making up the premise of Civil War to compete with Batman vs. Superman was the wrong choice. I view it as us (the audience) not having any time to see Bucky develop after being the Winter Soldier before everyone is on the run because he's once again being mind controlled (and of course the disagreement on the accords which I also feel is half-baked). Then we finally see development in TFATWS and BNW all for him to seemingly shift his entire personality in TB (not to mention it waters down Steve and Sam's development as well). I think in my breakdown it is clear that I have always wanted to like Bucky's character and even when I didn't like him in TFATWS, I IMMEDIATELY started liking him again. So let's not make it seem like I just have it out for the man. He was majorly ignored as an independent character in the films (As well as many other characters who also have actions I don't like, I'm just doing a breakdown on Bucky because I don't see why so many people are taking his side in the TB drama).
Given the recent thunderbolts drama⌠Here is my DETAILED beef with Bucky Barnes, for those who care.
To be clear, Iâm not a Bucky hater, Iâm a Bucky distaste-er. And my distaste revolves around the fact that James Buchanan Barnes has many problems (understandably so) and he runs away from them and makes them other peopleâs problems.
So strap in, weâre going all the way back!
Not Like Us has officially won as many Grammys as Drake has won throughout his entire career this is the best thing thatâs ever happened on that stage
