Pink/Maddie is in, a lot of ways, similar to Lace Silksong? And I see these similarities play out in how these games’ respective fandoms engage with these characters (in a bad way, for the record, Lace and Pink are treated very weirdly by the broader parts of these fandoms)

They’re both evoking this specific feminine archetype of delicacy that a lot of people interpret the wrong way. People see Lace’s existence as an obedient daughter to GMS who cannot self sustain and come to the conclusion that, she’s some self-fulling prophecy of self infantilization, and therefore we can infantilize her too. Obviously that’s not the point of Lace’s character or arc, but I see so much debate about her age, especially in relation to Lacenet (completely ignoring the linguistic presence of “child” in Pharloom as a sort of playful/generic insult, Hornet is called this too!) With Pink you have a ton of people taking her significantly less seriously than the other secret bosses because she appears outwardly as this cutesy magical catgirl. Fandom misogyny is a prison! They’re also both doll-like which I found an interesting similarity (at least Undertale Mew Mew is). Both also have a sort of neurotic personality (I mean this as a compliment) and a compromised sense of self given their existential circumstances

And then you have how both characters have a “rematch” of sorts that people had a whole myriad of complaints about. The general discussion I’ve seen for the Lost Lace and Deltarune Pink fights are, controversial at best. Oftentimes these arguments just lead into how people want something that has more “aura” rather than a confrontation that’s narratively resonant with the story at hand though. I think both fights fit very well into their respective parts of the story (Pink plays nothing like the Undertale Mew Mew fight as well from what I’ve seen).

Idk, I just noticed a lot of similar reactions to Pink that I saw for Lace when Silksong first came out, to the point where I withheld giving out my opinion of Pink for a few days so I could let her sit in my mind. And I fucking love Pink now! I think we owe ourselves to sit with the works we engage with and not get reactionary because our expectations were not met in the way we wanted, and that a different direction from your fantasized ideal isn’t a “bad” direction.

Keep drawing her and keep making her gay as hell for herself too! Let her experience the whole range of emotions and then some! Let that woman kiss herself and also commit assorted women’s wrongs

Put her into your theories and explore her in the overarching world of Deltarune. She is the last shadow crystal holder which is a very big deal. Her theme might directly allude to weird route and the depths. She parallels every fun gang member and Noelle and Dess in so many different ways. She’s got some Spamton and Friend fuckery going on too being a cat with pink/yellow all over. What does she know? She may have been alive to see Dess go missing. She might have find solace in the Knight’s existence. She may have heard the lake song before anyone other lightner. She lives with another closeted ghost creature whose transuniversal dream body was just chilling in a dark world with another shadow crystal inside. And her other roommate is some lowlife cop that barely does anything. Did she ever pry Napstablook about the Dess case? Or anything else? She had Thoughts about Undyne in Undertale and says some interesting things about Asgore in Deltarune, and now they’ve both been taking to the shelter, is there something more drawing to her drawing them to these characters?

The initial first impressions for Pink for a lot of people were negative given that people didn’t take her seriously as the other secret bosses or saw her as a joke. People thinking she was annoying because of a bomb attack or something (because weird route Spamton and Knight are totally free from bullshit attacks that one shot you). Or just thinking she wasn’t involved enough with the overarching shadow crystal plot. She was a secret boss in a singular port of Undertale I guess, but clearly being revisited in Deltarune made her character so much more complex, it was not a wasted slot by any means.

This fandom has made everything out of “nothing” time and time again. A Mike got mentioned like twice and people went insane about them being the main example. Pink’s face-value story presence is fairly comparable to Jevil’s, who was HUGELY popular, arguably the most popular chapter 1 darkner even to this day. I want that level of insanity for her and then some. It’s such a huge deal that the final member of the shadow crystal ensemble in a fandom as huge as Deltarune is a trans woman system and I want more people talking about her!

Pink defies her own fate simply by existing. She has a shadow crystal and brushes it off like it’s nothing. She arguably recontextualizes the whole freedom motif as her (or well I guess Miku’s) voice takes precedence over it. She took that lost dream and became the best version of herself she ever could be, despite everything. No matter the fate of the darkness, she and the memory of her body will live. She’s taking up space and making sure she won’t be forgotten, so don’t prove her right.

She is the last light before the sun goes down, before a darkness beyond your imagination drowns you. She is a lightner and darkner’s hopes and dreams, and above all, she is trans joy!!!

This character means so so much to me and I worry that she’ll be overshadowed because of her cutesy anime girl exterior (see: fandom misogyny). So, let’s be loud about Pink and let everyone watch her dream. If this fandom can draw the puppet and TV fucking a thousand times over, we can and should get insane about a trans girl who sits alongside the likes of Jevil/Spamton/Gerson and owns it full-heartedly

“Side B”: the most complete version of the route where Kris/Noelle… get sent to the Depths? I’m still not entirely sure wtf happened there

Aborted: Stop during snowgrave or back out of the chapter 4 cutscene

Quasi-aborted: don’t button mash during the chapter 5 cutscene, leading to the “but nothing changed” sequence. Your file is still marked as on weird route apparently

Yet of course there’s still the bakery elephant in the room, Twisted Sword. I doubt Seam will be reachable in chapter 7 given the Roaring would’ve had to start by then (then again I would’ve thought it would’ve started at the end of 5), which means that chapter 6 aborted weird route will have to be where Twisted Sword is made, the same chapter Susie is going to throw Noelle into castle town with them.

You can’t keep thorn ring and implant it into Noelle in chapter 4 on the same file. So, unless she’s wearing it in chapter 6 quasi-aborted, you will have to use a weird route file that aborted before Snowgraving Berdly to get Twisted Sword.

I’m still of the belief that “weird route” is the true prophecy, but what we did in chapter 5 weird route isn’t necessarily the prophecy - it’s Side B, breaking the universe/game.

I have a working theory about what will happen with Twisted Sword (which I’ll cover in a much longer theory post), but the gist of it is that it involves this unused Prophecy Panel

The dynamics of how this would work I’ll go into another time, but this seems to be a part of the prophecy that would be weird route-exclusive, intentionally hidden from the characters, but not hidden to the Soul/Player who can find it in the code.

Blood is a motif that keeps showing up specifically related to the Soul and the Prophecy, and by extension the weird route. Susie bleeds when shattering the final tragedy. The thorn ring has imagery as if causing Noelle to bleed profusely and causes a single red dot to show up throughout the rest of chapter 4 weird route. The soul itself is a visceral red, as is the only only major color the Knight uses besides its backgrounds. (Kris and Aqua also have a lot of red fuckery happening which is maybe relevant.) Sans now seems relevant to weird route and we know he can bleed from Undertale.

And when in the Goner Maker, one of the questions is…

“Side A” of Deltarune is a standard playthrough, where Susie is given emphasis as the unsung hero of a prophecy she was not written into.

“Side B” is what we knew as weird route, the attempted assimilation of Noelle into a vessel-like state by implanting a soul into here. But in actuality, it allows Noelle to break free of the universe of Deltarune because she realizes Hometown in some way or another isn’t real. She is the glitch hunter who has finally found a way to break her own reality - crossing the other side of the lake that doesn’t exist.

C and D… are not actual blood types - Gaster must’ve forgot what O is. However, there are two tracks in the game with these names, both clear references to Carol/Dess respectively. D.ogg plays in the weird route.

But, perhaps, to truly fulfill the prophecy as written in glass, the player has to go to such specifics to allow this to happen, playing some parts as intended, and others as not, allowing a specific sequence to lead into the twisted sword, allowing LOVE to find its way to the Girl.

Obviously it is mainly referring to flowers and Flower King! But also! Consider synth as in synthesizer. Like a vocal synth. Miku…
