💔 My Mother’s Life Depends on Your Kindness
My mother is in Gaza, where every day is a struggle to survive. Some time ago, she was injured when shrapnel from nearby shelling struck her back. She tried to endure the pain for as long as she could, but her condition has become much worse. She is now suffering from severe exhaustion and constant pain.
After seeing a doctor, we were told that she urgently needs emergency back surgery. The doctors warned us that the operation should be performed within the next 7 days to prevent her condition from deteriorating further.
The cost of this life-saving surgery is $1,000.
For many people, this may seem like a manageable amount. But for my family, trapped in the devastating conditions in Gaza, it is impossible. Every hour that passes brings more pain, more fear, and the risk of losing my mother.
I am begging you from the bottom of my heart: please help us save her.
Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to giving my mother the surgery she desperately needs. If you are unable to donate, please share this post with your friends and family. Your support could reach someone who is able to help.
Please don’t let my mother’s condition become another tragedy that could have been prevented.
Thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and your compassion. ❤️

Please help my mother, she must have an operation on her back
Unfortunately, today may be the day I lose my wife after everything she has endured.
Tonight, she was admitted to the intensive care unit after her condition worsened and she lost the ability to breathe. She is now staying alive with the help of medical machines.
I will never forget watching people ignore this desperate plea while I watch my wife fade before my eyes, unable to save her on my own.
Doctors told me her condition is extremely critical, and without urgent treatment she may not survive another night. So I am begging you: can you help me save her life? I plead with you as a husband and a father in Gaza, watching my wife collapse in front of me and unable to stop what is happening to her. Please donate now and help me save her life before it is too late.
I will never forgive those who choose to ignore this plea.
Please donate now on GoFundMe.

Thank you fucking lucky stars or whatever deities you believe in that the Supreme Court isn’t choosing cruelty for once
this book is out now!!! it's a short read, less than 200 pages, and it's SO good. i literally had to pause halfway through just to send the author a message about how much i liked it. definitely leans more utopian than scientific, but that makes sense given the format, and i think it has a lot of good things to say.
once you really start thinking about how restrictive the world is for children and how many bullshit justifications we retroactively come up for it all the time, you can't stop seeing it everywhere. this book makes a good case for including children in our political efforts not as rhetorical devices but as an actual class of oppressed people.

theres a reason u associate east asians with femininity and black people with masculinity and it has nothing to do with actual masculine or feminine “behavior” and everything to do with race science 😭 u have been taught race science, u haven’t unlearned race science 😭😭😭😭 READ A BOOK ABOUT RACISMMMM
Mark is canadian. Not american. So it is okay to wear the tshirt.

I will not be supporting UpPoom anymore or finishing Love of Silom.
Because wtf is this shit? From their most recent live. This is brand fuxking new.
I'm so disgusted.
Someone linked an explanation in the replies, which I wanna point out here:
Now let's see, a character portrayed as > dark skinned > curly haired > wearing "forest-dwelling" associated clothes... From a country full of people with dark skin that are often discriminated against, often told they have to whitening their skin, that they look dirty or poor the darker they look...
The thing is, racism and colorism are every fucking where. The fact that something is conventional or normal or traditional in a culture DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT.
What's the difference between these "costumes", which appear by looking up the character of Ngo Pa, and literally any last century anti-black caricature from USA?
The distance? The country? One is culturally significant and the other is not anymore?
Look, just because the racism is coming from a non-western country does not make it any better, ESPECIALLY when this same racist and colorist mindset actively affects people with dark skin in said country.
And look, they probably didn't think twice about it when they were doing this, and that's exactly what's wrong with it! Because it's SO NORMALIZED, people don't bat an eye when it happens, or go out of their way and try to excuse it instead of thinking beforehand "hey this might. Not be good actually."
And like. Nah fam. I don't care about the historical causes, I care about the current effect these type of depictions and actions have over people, I care about black people not being able to find any type of space without racism leaking through the cracks from everywhere, I care about dark skinned people who are being constantly shown and told and depicted as lesser than, because at the end of the day, the logic underlying behind this bigotry is the exact same, dark skin?= not pretty, not good, not clean, non civilized, not intelligent, non human, okay to mock!
And I'm tired of it all.
the explanation given in the first screenshot by (presumably) a thai person feels, at best, offensively ignorant and, at worst, intentionally misleading to me as well. the character in question is from a thai poem, written by king rama v based on his impression of the mani people - an indigenous group living in the south of thailand.
they are not ethnically thai and, while race is a social construct and it is hard to put many ethnicities around the globe into a neat racial category, the mani people can absolutely be labelled as black. certainly, the features that the thai people who "dress up" as the character in question caricaturise are the exact same features mocked by blackface and are features which the mani people share with black people.
essentially, everyone's knee-jerk reaction here was fully accurate. this is, in fact, indistinguishable from blackface. this might as well be the thai jim crow.
while colourism is 110% a serious issue in thailand as well, this character and the fact that thai people "dress up" as him is a textbook example of the dominant enthnic and racial group in the country making a caricature out of the features of another smaller, marginalised, and in this case also indigenous ethnic group, which is - of course - undoubtedly and blatantly racist.
moreover, if you look up news on the mani people in thai, you will see that they are constantly battling racism and discrimination. just this month, they submitted a request to the thai government, asking to stop using slurs when naming their ethnicity in official documents, as the most widely used words for the mani people in thailand are indeed not "mani" but two slurs. the name of the character in question (as well as the name of the poem he is from) is one of those slurs, by the way.
unfortunately, this character does seem to be completely normalised in thailand. kids read the poem in secondary school, the character gets depicted on screen in all sorts of ways, he is a popular "costume" for costume parties, and he was even an entire character on the thai version of the mask singer (not that any degree of mockery and caricature is okay but that one is particularly offensive: you can look up "เงาะป่า the mask singer" if you want to see for yourself, but massive warning for just an insanely racist caricature). but this normalisation is exactly why we can't just stay silent about it. people need to understand that this is not fucking okay. and we need to actually talk about it not being okay for that to happen.
in general, i feel like western fans tend to stay away from criticising anything they see in thai series or from thai celebrities because they are afraid that whatever seems wrong might be "just a part of the culture" or nuanced in some way that they do not understand. and while that might also be the case and it is always a good idea to do research first (flashback to me researching this very topic armed with two dictionaries and a purpose), we need to understand that thai media and celebrities are not beyond criticism and valid criticism is absolutely crucial. especially when it comes to an issue as serious as racism. double especially when it comes to anti-black racism, which is unfortunately a plague all over the world, asia included.

Southeast Asia Has a Serious Blackface Problem (Vice article)
Colorism and racism make you so stupid. Babe, stopping hating on others and yourself.
More context shared from @virtualtadpole shared in the comments. Something I’ve been curious throughout the appearance of the specific iteration of the blackface trope we’ve seen among the Thai actors. I suspected there was a performance history, which doesn’t inherently make it less anti-black but gives a more specific societal context for its repeated reference amongst the actors.
The tweet isn’t helping the way the tweeter thinks it is. I agree with MBDL that context doesn’t change the horrific anti-black nature of the costume and the literary/stage character.
Mamies and Magical Negros as well as other more derogatorily named character archetypes are a large part of the American literary and stage tradition. Minstrel shows, which is where the American version of blackface was solidified, were a very popular form of entertainment for years amongst white Americans. Blackface is still incredibly common and found amusing by white Americans. This tradition does not make these archetypes acceptable or harmless. In fact, they are always a tool of oppression.
The fact remains that this is a pervasive and common literary character mocking the Maniq people of Thailand, who are considered the oldest indigenous peoples of Thailand, stretching back 50,000 to 60,000 years. Unsurprisingly, the Maniq were historically captured and kept as slaves or curiosities by elite Malaysians sultans and rulers of southern Thailand. Thai blackface is different in origin but not in nature from American blackface traditions.
Anti-blackness colonialism are not merely western inventions or phenomena and the Afro-indigenous people of the world being mocked and debased is never okay, in any country, especially under the guise of tradition.
And I think this thread, and the world, deserves to see how absolutely beautiful the Maniq people are, and why that is, in fact, blackface.
in case you haven't heard, parts of venezuela were recently hit by a series of earthquakes, affecting communities across the country.
as venezuela is my home country, all of this hits especially close to home. thankfully, my family and loved ones are safe since they were in cities not as severely affected. however, many others have not been as fortunate and are now facing the aftermath of these events.
years of political and economic instability have left many communities with limited resources and infrastructure, making it even more difficult to respond to emergencies like this. there are reports of people who remain missing, and many families are still waiting for news about their loved ones. rescue efforts have been made even more difficult by shortages of equipment, ambulances, and other emergency resources needed to respond to a disaster of this scale.
if you're able to, please consider sharing information, supporting verified relief efforts, or simply helping spread awareness about what is happening.
