would i be mistaken in thinking that if pubic hair really was like. terribly unhygienic then we wouldn't grow it? we've evolved to be mostly hairless everywhere else. if we weren't meant to have hair there we wouldnt?? or is that just like not it
hi anon,
I'd caution against using terns like "meant to" in regards to things like human evolution. we're not "meant to" be any particular thing, and there's no final, most correct design that we're heading for or have ever been moving towards. human bodies contain all kinds of things that aren't especially helpful or even healthy for us!
now, having said that: humans' lack of body hair compared to other apes is largely speculated to be a matter of efficient thermoregulation, not hygiene. that our pubic hair remains relatively abundant is most likely because pubic hair is helpful for warming and protecting our genitalia. far from being unhygienic, pubic hair functions similarly to eyelashes to keep unwanted germs away from your moist and delicate holes.
