One week old
When we found out we were pregnant it was not a cause of celebration. But it doesn't seem quite right to tell people the sole reason you decided to have this child is because a termination is out of the question. Finding out were were pregnant was simply horrible.
We have always wanted to have a family, a dog and the figurative 'white picket fence' but not once have we expressed the desire to have a baby and be mummy and daddy. The idea was to think about doing that around age 35, close to 5 years from now. But certainly not now.
Baby Davy has now arrived and is simply wonderful. He is one week old today and while exhausting he is hugely rewarding and makes me feel like love. The same old line from every parent I've ever heard 'we weren't prepared for children either but when is anyone prepared?' and 'if we waited until we were ready the human race would have died out long ago'.
Some people have wondered why we didn't tell them, why they find out only after the baby is born? We just say 'mate, we haven't even told our families but Baby Davy is wonderful and we're loving each other and being parents'.
Next time around we'll be more inclined to announce and celebrate. And there will be a next time, we have to make this little fella some mates.
