israel should just give up at this point hamas is literally receiving letters of gratitude from the israeli hostages they’ve released
(via RNN telegram)
We need to do better about addressing misinformation and propaganda.
CNN, Nov. 24: Who are the hostages released so far in the Israel-Hamas deal?
WSJ, Nov. 26: Two Israeli Hostages Discharged Home After Receiving Medical Care
The available facts:
Daniel Aloni has family, including a sister, still being held hostage in Gaza
she and her daughter received 'therapeutic and emotional care' before being discharged home (but why would they need that if Hamas was so nice to them 🥺)
What the above post is alleging:
Daniel Aloni wrote the handwritten message seen in the picture
she wrote this note while under Hamas captivity: "it seems we will part ways tomorrow"
notes written while currently captive, addressed to one's captors may count as "letters of gratitude"
To everyone who reblogged in agreement or without comment: do you really believe this?
She could've also told the Israeli occupation authorities and the hospital staff whatever she wanted. If they were harmed by the captors then why is Israel placing gag orders on all the returned hostages? If they had anything bad to say this would only benefit Israel and its propaganda machine.
Second of all, these hostages were still being bombarded by the zionist occupation, and likely needed therapeutic and emotional care for that, just like all Palestinians in Ghazzah require, as 94% of Palestinian children endure suicidal ideation from the conditions of living under siege even before this genocide campaign. If these hostages were physically harmed in any way by their captors, they likely wouldn't just be getting psychological treatment, they would also be receiving physical care.
For the record, I haven't yet verified the letter's contents, its origins, when it was written, if it was even written by the woman above, etc... so I have not believed it yet. But you haven't presented convincing arguments to suggest the contrary. You actually presented evidence that Al-Qassam Brigades fighters didn't lay a finger on them during their stay, because they weren't provided with treatment for wounds or injuries in their hospitals.
Final point. I'm not a military analyst, but it's clear as day to me that the fact the families haven't been fully reunited is a strategy being used by the Al-Qassam Brigades to negotiate for an extended truce period. They're also keeping American citizens last in this vein as Israel has to answer to its most important military and arms benefactor if their hostages are not released.
And concerning your tags "you do not under any circumstances have to hand it to hamas etc". So the point of it isn't actually to discuss the outcome and the wellbeing of the released captives? If one of the captives actually did praise H*mas for managing to keep them alive under the relentless air strikes and to get them food during a complete and total blockade you would still react negatively? The point isn't actually to look at the situation objectively, it's just to make sure everything fits into your neat idea of who is good and who is bad?
just saw this, thanks for the addition @el-shab-hussein literally you literally addressed every point.
just wanted to reiterate again that, even if the israeli hostage wrote it under threat/because she was coerced, there was absolutely nothing stopping her from retracting her statement and testifying to that after her release - that would’ve been something the israeli media would have been more than happy to broadcast everywhere 24/7 over loudspeakers. and it could potentially be the reason why Al-Qassam Brigades waited several days after her release to share this letter (note: this is purely my own speculation).
similarly, if an Al-Qassam fighter wrote it himself, now that this letter has been released, Danya Aloni (the released hostage) could have easily discredited it. which she hasn’t.
and finally, regardless of what you think of this letter’s legitimacy, you cannot deny the fact that every israeli hostage (or their family) that has given a testimony has said that they were not harmed/tortured by the palestinian resistance, that they were fed, given as much medical aid the resistance could provide if it was needed, and were generally in good condition given the circumstances they were in. it has gotten to the point where Israeli Channel 13 correspondents reiterated this fact themselves.
