we should normalize nonbinary medical transitioning that is different from our binary trans siblings. low dose hrt? great! surgery with no additional hormones? awesome! hormones only until desired results are achieved? cool!
āmutilateā your body until itās yours, you only live once why not be as comfortable as possible in your own skin
thank god vampirism is a flexible metaphor
itās about being queer itās about surviving assault itās about alienation and most of all itās about how everyone who loved you before might not be able to even look at you now, no matter how many times you try to explain that you didnāt ask to die and you didnāt ask for that death to leave you only half-eaten when it got bored of you.
This is without even mentioning the broader metaphorical implications of disease and contagion; foreign invasion; colonial or imperial violence; interpersonal abuse; generational trauma; religious trauma; violent cultural assimilation; repressed or suppressed desire; the fear of no longer being able to recognise or relate to someone you love; and on and on and on.
Vampirism is a flexible metaphor that reflects the anxieties and desires of its age and its authors, and I love that for it!
hey did you know??? that if you stop stretching and maintaining mobility in your body then it goes away?? things get tight and you can't move the way that you used to??? and when you decide to try getting a stretch routine going that the first week fucking sucks because you keep going 'damn i used to be able to do this no problem' and then you have to switch gears and be kind to yourself and just focus on getting better from here instead of berating yourself for dropping the good habits in the first place??? and your body never stops aging so you gotta keep taking care of it and sometimes you gotta take care of it extra in certain areas because of things that happened when you were younger and it's boring and sometimes hurts but it's so necessary???
i am yelling this at myself right now i am going through An Experience (trying to get into a routine of body maintenance again for my physical and mental health)
oh, Sisyphus! i got you
'adequate' is the meanest word in the english language. you passed. barely. we acknowledge your existence. now fuck off.

When you thought it would be easy peasy lemon squeezy but it turns out to be difficult difficult lemon difficult.
Wait thatās actually really good, gonna pop this out of the tags
Not the citrus scale I was looking for but I like it
The reason most indie novels are written like the author is terrified of doing something wrong is because the overwhelming majority of indie novelists get their start by networking in the violent panopticon of the social media indie publishing community, which favours the people who are able to win at the social policing game.
Okay so this comment got me googling because I hadn't heard of Isabel Fall
And if you also hadn't heard of her go read this because uhh... Holy Shit
I had heard of the whole messed up situation with this story, but I hadn't ever read the synopsis of the story before, and WOW
This story sounds like it could have been a brilliant exploration of gender and warfare and violence but instead it was attacked by people who didn't know how to confront a story that made them uncomfortable, and the author faced horrible consequences.
It's so important to be able to deal with stories that give you uncomfortable feelings in other ways than just attacking it. Being shown new perspectives sometimes has feelings of discomfort because it's an unfamiliar way of seeing the world.
You can read it Here
It's an amazing story. It's so good it reminds me of classic works from like the 1960s in the best way possible while being extremely of Right Now. Everybody who likes sci-fi should read it.
I'm forever pissed that the extended internet circlejerk shoved this brilliant trans woman back into the closet and deprived us of any more work from her!!!!!!! And "didn't know how to deal with a story that made them uncomfortable" is far too generous. None of the ringleaders HAD EVEN READ THE STORY. THEY JUST ASSUMED BASED ON THE TITLE AND STARTED THE TWITTER MOBBING. N.K. Jemisin I will never forget what you fucking did
So thereās this huge dudebro in my class, who, yesterday, sat next to me. And Iām sitting there sweating because like⦠Iām wearing my shirt with the lesbian flag on it, and heās the most popular jock in school, and always has this look on his face that say āI can and will kill youā. He looks me up and down, stares at me for a minute and then goes,Ā āSo. Girls in skirts and long socks, am I right?ā
To which I nodded solemnly, both out of agreement, surprise and also a healthy amount of awkward fear. He nodded and went,Ā āYou get it.ā
I said,Ā āYep.ā He fistbumped me, and on went our lives.
Oh! I forgot to mention! I saw him at lunch the same day, and he ran up to me, tapped me on the shoulder, pointed at this super sweet girl who comes to GSA and asked if sheās gay. I told him he should ask her because thatās not my place and he said he would.
I thought that would be the end of it.
Except ten minutes later he came back and told me he found out (sheās bi) and that both of us have a shot. I saidĀ āYou more than me.ā because heās attractive and popular.Ā
But this wholesome dumbass looked really confused and asked,Ā āBecause Iām tall?ā
So this isnāt lesbian/jock solidarity but I thought you guys would want to know-
My math teacher was trying to fix the rolling whiteboard and he just offhand said āThis would be easier with a wrenchā
And deadass, dudebro said āHang onā and then proceeded to pull a fucking wrench out of his backpack
Update- after school today he saw me in the library and he didnāt say anything? He just pointed at the book he was holding and I gave him a thumbs up because itās a pretty good book, and he went āYes!ā Really quiet and pumped his fist and then left
Okay so today he asked me if I know how to help people having a panic attack and I was like yeah? And he smiled at me and then went ācool I think Iām having oneā
And I was like what the fuck Colin weāre in the middle of Tech class sit down and we went out in the hall and sat there for a while and he told me about the test heās stressed about so we kind of went over his study guide and when he was feeling better he kind of like⦠smacked his head against mine gently? And I helped him up even though heās almost a foot taller than me and yeah
Today at lunch we walked to the football field and laid in the grass and I told him thank you for being my friend (because I donāt have that many) and fistbumped me and said, āYou always looked so nice and chill, how could I not want to be your friend?ā
And honestly yāall, I wouldāve started crying if he hadnāt sneezed and accidentally smacked me
@hellsite-hall-of-fame this is a legendary post

ok but legitimately i think the reason why kids arenāt taking internet safety seriously is because the people who are telling us not to put our personal information out seem so out of touch. no one acknowledges the possibility of meeting very real teenaged friends online, they always say that everyone you meet is a 40 year old white man in disguise. because they arenāt acknowledging things we know are true, it becomes a lot easier to dismiss the rest of what theyāre saying as well. internet safety lessons absolutely must keep up with the times and acknowledge the internetās capacity for good if you want kids to take to heart warnings about its capacity for bad.
Some actual safety tips for teenagers:
1. Have proof they're a teenager first. More than just a picture, have a video call with them.
2. If you want to meet up with them, have your parents or a trusted adult come with you. Even if they are a proven teenager, its still good to have supervision in case any issues happen.
3. If you are talking to an adult, and they start being sexual in any way, you run the fuck away. It doesn't matter if they're 40 or 20. An adult inherently has a power dynamic that teenagers do not. And its up to the adult to act responsible about it. There's exceptions of course, if you're 16 and dating an 18 year old, that's not a problem, we're not talking about that.
4. Being in a server with adults or ran by adults is not inherently bad. Talking to adults is not inherently a problem, and will likely happen in any number of Discord servers. It is only an issue when they are acting sexual and show predatory behavior.
5. Look out for grooming behavior. It can be difficult, because at first it seems like innocuous behavior, like complimenting or giving gifts. Especially if you feel lonely and have low self esteem. And groomers actively target people like that.
If they start trying to isolate you, talk sexual with you, state they depend on you for emotional needs, blame you for their own actions, try to be secretive about the relationship- Then you need to talk to people you trust, block the perpetrator, and call the police on them.
6. If this does happen to you, remember this: It is not your fault. Even if you didn't listen to a single thing listed here, it is not your fault. It is the fault of the adults who knew better, and didn't care. It's not your fault.
To my followers: if any of you guys are underaged, please be very VERY careful on here, and donāt fall for any of the tricks the groomer would use on you, just block them and report them.

i do think we should normalise being like. platonically enamoured with someone. perhaps i love and admire you dearly and there's nothing romantic about it
another huge piece of advice: separate out 'tidying', 'cleaning' and 'organising' in your head. they're not the same thing and a lot of paralysis and overload comes from either misidentifying what your space needs, or trying to do all of them at once with conflicting goals.
TIDYING means clearing space, making your environment orderly and inviting. it usually entails removing clutter from surfaces, clearing the floor so you can move around easily, and creating psychological ease by putting everything visibly in its place. It's very visual, and can also involve things like straightening picture frames, squaring pillows, folding blankets on the couch, etc. It reduces chaos and noise and makes a space comfortable.
ORGANISING means sifting through belongings, ensuring that what doesn't need to be kept is thrown out and what does need to be kept is kept well. This often means categorising by room and function ā teaspoons go in the teaspoon drawer, and the teaspoon drawer stays in the kitchen. It can also mean indexing things so you can find them easily (markers sorted by colour, paperwork divided into topical folders, books alphabetised) and preserving things (moving photos out of direct sunlight, keeping open flour in a sealed container, sleeving trading cards).
CLEANING means removing built up dirt, dust and grime, reducing the level of environmental contaminants and making your space sanitary. Bacteria are a fact of life, they love to hang out in dust and cling to pet hair and multiply on any given surface. Cleaning is how you keep that stuff in check, preventing it from building up to the point it affects your health. This means wiping frequently touched surfaces with disinfectant, sanitising utensils (doing the dishes), washing bedding and clothes (and yourself), and sweeping/vacuuming and taking out the trash to physically remove dirt from your home.
Tidying is not the same thing as organising ā shove the mail, bills, dirty teaspoons and your gardening gloves in a drawer, and you've tidied the table. Sort the paperwork into piles by deadline, put the teaspoons in a cup, and roll the gloves together so they don't get separated, and the table is untidy but organised.
Similarly, a tidy or organised space can still be filthy. Just because all the yellowed newspapers and trash bags are sorted by date in the basement, out of sight, doesn't mean they're clean. A chaotic, cluttered space can still be very sanitary if it's being kept clear of refuse, and wiped and dusted often.
Sometimes tidying makes your space less organised, and vice versa. Organising often shakes out a lot of dust and makes the space dirtier. The classic "it's even worse than when I started" feeling is often the result of going into a room with the intent of tidying, then actually starting the task of organising instead. It's a lot easier to tidy an organised space, and organising first is usually the right instinct, but the distinction isn't intuitive so the sudden cluttering effect can be really demoralising. Remember they're three different things with different goals. Sometimes they overlap, but sometimes they conflict. That doesn't mean you're doing it wrong.
i dont think its a "sin" to "destroy and betray yourself for nothing" because there's no such thing as sin, there's no such thing as yourself and there's no such thing as nothing. and destruction and betrayal are subjective. you're most likely totally fine.
i love seeing cardinals and bluejays together iām always like āhehe.. evil siblingsā
this is what iām all about babyyyyy
Theyāre not even related. Jays are a type of corvid, like crows and magpies, and Cardinals are a grosbeak.
well you see, they are both birds and they both have fun hats. hope this helps
This is your captain speaking and yeah weāre not landing. I just feel like weāve got a really good thing up here and I donāt want to ruin it. This is my home and you are my people

you are just cranky because i took something imperceptible from you and you cannot recall it in its absence but you feel the edges of it anyway
One of my favorite phrases my Creative Writing professor had for when youāre writing fantasy isĀ āgiving your story a Flux Capacitorā.
Because itās not real, it doesnāt exist. But the way itās thrown into Back to the Future, at no point does it throw the audience off or suspend any more disbelief than time travel would. You believe Doc when he says he created the Flux Capacitor - the thing that makes time travel possible, because the universe never questions him.Ā
So it essentially means like, there are going to be elements to your universe that are just not gonna make any sense, even if you set up a whole system based on it. And the only way to make it work is completely own it. You cannot second-guess your system or else the reader will too. You can give it the strangest explanation, but write it like you own it. Ā
