Life Is Not A Spectator Sport.

So I made a playlist, with my own heartbreak and loneliness in mind, and it kinda hit me later that it fits a lot of angst ridden ships (that Grey’s Anatomy is full of; and well, most pairings I root for). If you like alternative/indie (and crazy good lyrics), this will be your cup of tea.

Wow... Did you even read what I wrote? Did I at any point ask for rainbows and unicorns? No, I even acknowledged the need for a confrontation; my beef is with how it’s dropped in the middle with inadequate handling of build up and aftermath. Idem for Derek. Idem for practically every story line this season (including the medical story of Samuel’s condition which I’ve dissected ad nauseam). 

See, there’s a difference between fan respect and fan service. And I’m not asking for the latter. The first simply implies acknowledging the loyalty of your fan base, i.e. engaged viewers, by writing the characters you've crafted and engaged aforementioned viewers with in a human, complex, moderately intelligent way. Not just giving flashes of them thrown in situations with a single goal of DRAMA FOR THE SAKE OF DRAMA. Give me all the angst in the world if it’s well written and doesn’t make me feel like those rich characters are just puppets.

First, they kill off Derek who was at the core of the show from the start, 11 years; but that’s not the issue, the issue is that the grieving room (lack of) and process for the fans after all that was wholly tactless. We get a flash-forward, some bits and pieces, nothing truly organic to commemorate a character close to the heart of the show.

Now, this Jackson/April crap, who, to be perfectly honest, were the two characters whose story I was still actively following (high emotions and all; I’ve managed a healthy distance from the rest). We just jump in one episode to a “new” Jackson and April and then get a 30sec scene with an ultimatum (that’s warranted, but just BAM! jammed there), a 5 sec crying scene, them ignoring each other while we hear about some random people we’ve never met divorcing for 3min, also total absence of Callie or Arizona. And then DOT DOT DOT, see you in 4mo? Ha, I am 98% convinced you will not, and I will be signing off.

This is not entertaining drama drawing you in, it’s not a well woven and developed story with a cliffhanger that was built up and deserved to be there. This is a slap in the face of any loyal fan still hanging on to this show. Let’s call a spade a spade, shall we?

... But again just focusing on positives. The entire episode was great loved my japril and Meredith. Both storylines just broke my heart. Big improvement over the past seasons, in my opinion.

Totally agree, especially those two storylines. They brought the focus back on character development.
