i have arthritis in my hands/fingers, and sometimes purling like this is less painful than purling the traditional way. i don't find it as easy/natural, but i think that's a side effect of not doing it much.

Iāve been knitting for more than half my life. I love it so much and I really want to do it as a career, but it seems like every time I get take a step toward that goal something happens and Iām two steps back. I just feel like I canāt find the right path to get to where I want to be.

Soā¦.hereās my chubby ass in theĀ āfinished enough for nowā crochet Dalek. I was roasting in the main room it was so warm .. but it was a hit with everyone who saw it (and I won Belle Chereās Honorable Mention award at the costume contest).
Best part was telling people they hadnāt seen the best part yet and getting their reactions when I unzipped andĀ āflashedā my inner Dalek at them.
My hands really really need a break before I finish it and fix a few issues that drove me nuts cause I was a tad rushed finishing everything enough to wear it. But it is most certainly not a summer time cosplay and will only come out when itās cold here in the mountains.

Hi! I was wondering if you had any resource for learning to knit, not so much just a tutorial but a list of what you should learn in a particular order so that you could start making things and understanding patterns? Thanks!
The first thing to do is to learn to cast on. There are several ways to do this but the thumb method is probably the easiest to learn. Long tail is currently my go to favourite but you need to be good at judging how much yarn youāll need to cast on. The next thing to learn is the knit stitch and once youāve mastered that try out the purl stitch. Finally, youāll need to learn to cast off. Now you know all the basics!
If you want to progress further, cabling, knitting in the round, lace and stranded knitting are some more challenges you could try although I wouldnāt recommend trying to learn any of these straight away.
When using a pattern, most have a list of the abbreviations used near the beginning. If that list isnāt there just google it and youāll be able to find out what you need.

Iād also go for simple increases/decreases as a basic to learn after cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. Most knitwear requires shaping, so those are kind of important.
Iām also (very slowly!) learning to knit. I can cast on, knit, purl, cast off, increase and decrease. I have made a baby cardigan! My next step will be working in the round. Havenāt tried them myself but definitely have it bookmarked.
Good news! Thereās actually very little that you need DPNs for. Most of it can be magic loopedā¦I think the one exception is some of the smaller needle sizes (like 00 or 0 or 1) but thatās only really important for socks. If Iām wrong about that, someone should correct me!!! (and point me to where you can find them. for, umā¦research purposes?)
Oh! Good news on the needle thing! Which is that you can get needles that are GREAT for magic looping in teeny tiny sizes, super cheap, from the ebays!Ā
I bought this setĀ about eighteen months ago, and theyāre pretty much the only needles that Iāve used since then. The cords, which I thought I would hate, are actually great? Theyāre very bendable, and in my experience they donāt -- you know how sometimes Addis and the like get a kink in the cord, and it just...stays there forever? None of these have done that to me yet, because they seem to barely have any memory at all. (Which also means that they donāt do that thing where youāre knitting and the cord keeps trying to spiral itself back up, like, and banging your wrist.)
And they go down to what I think is a US size 0000? Itās super tiny--Iāve never found circs this small in a shop.
Anyhow I realise that I sound like an infomercial, but I just really like these needles, and also theyāre super cheap, so even if you hate them youāre out like literally five bucks, ssssso...
