before i start, i just want to clarify that i still won’t be returning for the reasons i’ve stated in my goodbye post, but i wanted to upload this to an account that has a bigger audience and is able to reach more people.

as someone who has been reading and writing fanfiction for the past ten years, the decline of fanfiction over the recent years is genuinely baffling to see. if you’re on tiktok, then you might have seen how popular fanfiction and fanfiction sites have gotten over the last couple of months, which unfortunately has brought an influx of negative people into many of these spaces. if you are coming on fanfic websites, specifically tumblr and archive of our own, to spread nasty comments and hate on the author who is taking time out of their day and uploading their writings for free, STOP INTERACTING WITH THEM.

it’s literally so unmotivating and so disgusting to see the comments that people will leave under these authors’ posts. even i have received hate while writing on here, and while it never affected me or my motivation to write, the fact that i even received it is disappointing. fanfic etiquette is nonexistent at this point. if you don’t like the way someone writes, you don’t like the way they developed their story, they take too long to upload, or you just think it’s bad writing, then click off and stop interacting with their content. if you go out of your way to leave hate comments and go as far as making the author delete their work or even leave their account, please find a space where your hate is welcome because this is NOT the place for it.

and of course i’m not saying that you aren’t allowed to have certain preferences when it comes to writing. i also have very picky standards when it comes to fanfic, which is partially the reason i write my own, but going out of your way and letting the author know it doesn’t meet your standards is SO unnecessary.

authors have lives too and write on these platforms because they ENJOY it. they aren’t writing to meet up to YOUR standards. so please, before you think about leaving negative comments or even harassing them to the point where they stop writing, please think about the person behind the screen 🫶

1. people hating on writers and fics. writing is something we do for free and for fun. if you stumble upon a fanfic that isn't necessarily your cup of tea or you just don't like, scroll. dont read it. literally leave their page. you don't know if this could be the author's first work that they're so excited about, you dont know if the language they're writing in isn't their first language, you dont know that the writer could be a literal teen and loads of other reasons. fanfictions don't HAVE to be perfect. you write what you want to write because we do it for fun and enjoyment and we want to share that to the world. seriously, what is the wrong with that?..

2. x reader consumers getting WAY too entitled. the number of tiktoks i've seen that say "i run a strict program when it comes to reading fanfics." girl you aint running shit. this is FAN FICTION you're reading. F A N F I C T I O N. there is no denying that most fanfiction writes are beyond talented but just because you read one fanfic that exceeds your expectations doesn't give you the right to talk down on others that don't. people have their own personal writing style, their way of doing things and you talking shit on that isn't right.

at the end of the day, we are all humans, reading and writing is what we do and what we're meant to do. and for you to talk shit about a person WRITING is so insane. we are humans. not some robots that you can tell what to do so you can consume it.

i've seen so so many authors take down their fanfics and losing all motivation to write because of a hate comment. DONT LIKE DONT READ‼️
