Could you please do a character analysis of Kimblee from fmab?? I love your analysis of characters! I've been trying to do my own and I keep thinking about did he actually care about Winry? Yes he used her as a hostage and would kill her to kill Scar but his respect for the Rockbell drs is manipulative but he has respect for maintaining your post, having expressed during the extermination to Riza to take pride in her post (then his pride in killing) Did he find it admirable they stayed?
Oh no he absolutely didnāt care about Winry, but I do think he was genuine in finding her and her parents admirable, yeah. Its just for Kimblee, admiring and caring about someone are very different things and the second is just something he does not do ever. In the manga, we even see that he was sent to kill the Rockbells if āneccessaryā, its just Scar got to them first, and he was going on about how he admired them even back then...so ironically, when he was telling Winry about how much he admired her parents, he just left out the part where he was on his way to happily murder them, and would have.Ā
Kimblee seems completely devoid of compassion, but he does has his own twisted ideas about Respect (and people who really stick to their work/passion and principles is one of those things he respects, likely because he considers himself similar only his work/passion is murdering people and really Winry and Her Parents Should Understand That) and he has his own Standards that he sticks to- he just operates on this entirely different plane of morality than most of the other characters, and that makes him hard to deal with for them, especially since he occasionally makes chillingly decent points (like how you shouldnāt really be acting like a victim when youāre the persecuting nation in a war going around killing people).Ā I think heās a good example of how you can have a completely hateable, despicable villain who has no sad backstory or moments of genuine compassion to latch on to, but still make them interesting to read about rather than just being āraaaaa im your standard cardboard cacklerā.Ā
Like you want Kimblee to fuckinā die (and its great that he literally gets his guts ripped out by a lionguy lol) and thereās no excuses to be made for him, but his function in the story is undeniably an important and fascinating one. He makes the other characters confront things about themselves, and heās so content with himself in comparison to them that it makes for a cool dynamic. Arakawa never tries to get you to sympathize with him, but itās likeĀ āhey here comes this awful weirdo to wreck shit, nobody likes him but boy does he make things interestingā and then at the last minute he just happens to wreck shit in Edās favor, not because he cared about anyone, but because he was mad about being eaten.
Let's just all remember that Kimblee admired Armstrong so much for sticking to his principles that he killed the people Alex tried to save because once they were dead, there really was no reason to mention the incident to their superiors.
Also, he gets his jollies from the sound of explosions and the screams of people dying or in pain.
