When the card was presented, Logan simply stared at it. A few long seconds passed before he glanced to her, not hiding his annoyance. “I came out here to be alone. And smoke a cigar. Not talk to strangers with dumb sounding names.” He sat back against the bench, continuing to ignore the card he was being offered. “What do you want?”

“Fair enough.” Logan grumbled in agreement. “Unless you’re wanting one of these, you’re shit outta luck right now.” He pulled out a cigar to show her before lighting it. “It’s not like I carry beer around with me everywhere. Not a bad idea though.”

Logan shuffled over next to her so their arms bumped together. He had always been warmed-blooded and the difference between their body temperatures became quickly apparent. “Course I did.” He looked to her, searching her face. “What’s on your mind?”

Logan shot her a sideways glance, smiling softly enough that it might not even be noticed. He let the silence fall over them for a few beats, watching as his breath dissipated in the breeze. There was a cigar in his pocket he was about to pull out before she showed up, but he decided to keep it tucked away for now. “Got nothin’ else better to do, huh?” His tone was light. He adored Gabby and Laura but still wasn’t the best at conversation. That was his fault, not theirs. “Or uh, you got something on your mind?”

“I’m Canadian. I like the cold. If you wanna keep talkin’ you’re just gonna have to deal with it.”

“There’s been a lot going on. Been busy. If you’ve got something to say, spit it out.”

“Doesn’t surprise me. Life gets complicated enough as it is without resurrection being thrown into the mix. Sometimes one life is enough.”

“Watch everyone else, then. Learn by example. I think you do know how to be better, you just don’t remember right now.”

“It’s over. My fault, not hers.” Logan had walked away. It had felt like the only option. And Lorna was right-- it was pretty damn shitty. “This isn’t about my other kids. You have a kid, you know what it’s like. It’s about..” He drifted off, shaking his head. “It doesn’t matter anymore.

“That makes two of us. You don’t exactly need to be an expert to think that.”
