Sammy loves dresses; she doesn't get to wear them a lot because of farmwork, but she enjoys a day out in her favorite sundress.
She also loves a good flowy skirt. She likes to twirl in them.
Despite that, she hates shopping for them. She hates public dressing rooms. She hates how women's clothes are sized because nothing hurts more than finding a cute dress that should be your size, and then you find out the dress runs small. It's also genuinely embarrassing to be a larger person trying on clothes in a more public setting.
Both her sisters are smaller than her, and both are the first to tell Sammy if a piece of clothing looks too tight or doesn't look like it fits right.
This caused a lot of clothes shopping anxiety.
Brooklynn and Yaz learn this during a back-to-school shopping trip. Sammy clearly gets uncomfortable trying on clothes. Yaz immediantly turns into a guard dog after a shopkeeper makes a comment about finding Sammy a bigger size (before she even tried on the size in her hand)
Yaz is the first person to call her "gorgeous" the second she stepped out in a sunflower print sundress that she fell in love with.
she gains way more confidence after shopping with Yaz and Brooklynn, she goes from not being very confident to strutting out the dressing room like its a fashion show.
Really embraces more feminine styles as her confidence grew.
Her and Brooklynn learn to sew together, Brooklynn gets way into upcycling clothing and Sammy wanted to learn so she could make her own cute clothing.
She loves adding whimsy to things. Picture little ladybug buttons on her cardigans, embroidered flowers, anything to add more personality to her clothes.
She gets into making a few pieces for her and Yaz. She'll get bulk fabric and make herself a skirt and Yaz a matching button up. They match sometimes when they go on dates.
Sammy also loves shoes; she's very much a shoes gal. She has boots for farmwork, nicer boots for a jaunt into town, riding boots, etc.
Yaz was never a fashion person; she particularly had no interest in women's fashion. A lot of her high school attire was athletic. She lived in dark joggers and track team jackets.
GymRat Fashion. She's almost always in workout clothes because she is almost always going to work out.
When she's leading towards the end of high school, she get more into clothes. She shops with Brooklynn a lot when Brooklynn is experimenting with more gender neutral styles. Brooklynn is the one who pushes her to try on more masculine styles of clothing.
She ends up favoring a lot of more layered looks. Boxier jackets with tighter fitting base layers, flannels and button ups, dark wash jeans, ect.
The queen of "get a girl who can do both" She leans a little more punk, leather and Jean jackets, the occasional hoodie. But then date night with Sammy turns into blazers, sweaters, dress shirts.
She's never liked skirts or dresses, she thinks Sammy looks pretty in them but shes never been comfortable wearing them herself. She much prefers her shorts and pants.
Her and Kenji both go through a cargo short/pants phase because OMG so many pockets for SNACKS. Everyone makes fun of them until they go see a movie and then guess who everyone asks to sneak their snacks in?
Her and Kenji end up with similar wardrobes at one point. They basically look like siblings with similar clothing tastes.
Also prefers a sling bag over a regular purse. Easier to carry and somehow cooler then Ben's dork pouch.
Yaz genuinely doesn't like being called "pretty" or "beautiful" random guys called her that all the time to hit in her and she hates it. The first time Sammy called her it she had to get into an awkward convo about how she doesnt really like it. Sammy of course was understanding AF
Honestly Sammy took it as a challenge to bring back old time-y compliments. When her and Yaz are going to Yaz's senior prom Sammy tells her she looked "dashing" in her suit, Yaz immedianly turned pink from blushing.
Yaz prides herself on being able to pick up Sammy. It sends Sammy into a giggling fit every time.
Sammy loves running into Yaz's arms jumping in them as Yaz catches her.
Yaz is always holding doors open to Sammy, pulling out her chair for her, honestly anything to make male chivalry look dead. She's single handedly bringing chivalry back.
Sammy can lift up bales of hay BUT will bat her eyelashes so Yaz will do it for her (and she can watch Yaz get all sweaty doing farm work)
Yaz doesnt complain, because shes usually rewarded with homemade lemonade and Sammy's big smile.
Sammy loves cooking for Yaz. One of her favorite things is making dinner for them while catching glimpses of Yaz checking on the cows from the kitchen windows.
Sammy loves doing typical wife chores. She daydreams about the day her and Yaz are married. She'll dance around the kitchen making fresh bread or be sweeping the floor humming and Yaz will ask what's got her so smiley and she blushes because shes been thinking about being Yaz's wife.
On the flip side, Yaz is also a talented cook and will make food for Sammy after a rough day or if Sammy is too tired to cook.
She loves preparing picnic dates and planning a long trail ride to some secluded part of the ranch.
Sammy loves when Yaz spoils her with big fancy picnic dates or takes her out to a nice dinner, giving her a reason to show off some of her fancier dresses.
Sammy likes that Yaz keeps her hair longer, she likes to play with her hair when they're chilling on the couch or in bed. She learns Yaz falls asleep very quickly when shes running her fingers through her hair.
Yaz daydreams about marrying Sammy a lot. About watching her wall down the aisle in her wedding dress. About celebrating with their friends, having Sammy all to herself on fheir wedding night...
Yaz is the first of the Gutierrez partners to get Sammy's Dad's blessing. She got his permission while her and Sammy were still dating, before she went to Wyoming for therapy.
She actually bought Sammy a ring before she went to Wyoming as motivation to get better with her PTSD.
