Wylan is a soft, earthy green you find in a forest. Maybe the color of moss or lichen or leaves. He’s green tinged with brown because he is down to earth and close to his roots. He’s grounding. He’s green because there is a bit of venom in his veins that doesn’t belong there. Venom from the bites if people he hated, who hurt him. He’s green because he is young and afraid and unsure. He’s green because he is, above all, honest. He’s green because he is good through and through. He’s green because he came into his own after being destroyed from the inside out and revived his own soul, half out of spite, half out of love.

WRONG!

Why does no one talk about this boy? The entirety of his first chapter in CK feels so overlooked. He's incredibly stressed over seeing his father, like he can't possibly come to terms with the fact that his father would be worried about him. He's shocked when he's greeted with relief instead of anger, and instantly starts wishing he could indulge in one of his addictions to help him get through this interaction.

At the end of the chapter as well, he mentions being confused on his new feelings of dread. Normally adrenaline makes him happier, he lives for that thrill, until someone he loves is put in the crossfire. He holds no regard for his own life, but he'd never forgive himself if the other Crows or his family were hurt.

It's an incredibly interesting dynamic for his character, and I feel like it ties into his own self esteem and just how he handles things in general.

I also think that his reaction may have been different due to Kaz recently losing trust in him. A part of me wonders if Jesper's self worth is tied to him being able to prove his loyalties here.
