   her frantic searching for anything to help stop the bleeding was endearing to say the least, especially since he really tried to not tell her in a way that would cause panic. but hey, this was rabid, raccoon city and with the streets on fire and hordes of the undead crawling around, carlos figures she probably wouldn’t want to be alone facing this shit and his company was probably welcoming in the same breath. maybe. he doesn’t really get the impression that umbrella is a loved company by its people after all these years-- another thought that needs to wait. the sound of her knocking something off one of the shelves is enough for the injured man to push himself up and gently place a hand on her shoulder. ❛hey, relax. i’m not going to bleed out or something, i promise. just give me a second to catch my breath and we’ll keep going to the subway.❜

   brows draw tight, eyes narrowed in suspicion. perhaps he should be more trusting in her word that after taking such a huge blow to the side, all that would be there is a simple bruise. instinct has carlos reaching out and their initial meeting snaps his hand back close to his side and the sheepish expression flashes over his face for a brief moment. ❛i haven’t forgotten about giving you  PERSONAL SPACE  just so you know. i would check the wound out, but I am a very respectful man and I want to trust that you’re not lying to me and trying to be supercop all the time.❜ but really, would she ever admit to a moment of weakness? ❛i’m here...if you need me.❜

   there’s disbelief in the look on his face, almost comical considering it was coming from him and seriousness was only used in dire time of need. however, any further protesting and she would cuss him out and that wouldn’t help with her mental state-- not after killing so many used to be people and the toll it starts to take. he knows the struggle of taking lives, especially the lives of children who didn’t survive the infection. they wouldn’t be human if they didn’t feel shit at all. ❛it‘s okay to not be okay, you know. took me years to figure that out and i haven’t even begun to live my life. all this shit that’s happening isn’t fine and i can tell you that it won’t get easier. but.. i got your back.❜

   he doesn’t notice. the warmth trickling down his forearm does very little to draw his attention from trying to make it back to the subway station with his newfound partner alive. the sooner they got more people onboard, the faster they could get it moving and speed up the process. at the mention of his wound, the brazilian only grunts slightly in acknowledgement before examining it closer. ❛looks a whole lot worse than it probably is. i didn’t even really notice it until just now.❜ it settles in as a dull ache that he can feel stiffening up as he keeps his rifle held close to his chest.

  the claws of a licker could do unspeakable damage to even a man of his size and after trying to conceal the gaping gash across his midsection, the redhead woman still managed to see the  DAMAGE  done, much to his dismay. who would have thought that many lickers were in one police department? and maybe it was also his carelessness that caused the accident in the first place, especially when it dropped right down from the ceiling and left little time to react properly. thankfully, he’d made it to one of the vacant and still lit lobby rooms before collapsing on the sofa, his hands red with his own  BLOOD.  she wouldn’t continue with him, not like this and he’s touched by her genuine concern but truly wanting her to save her own ass instead of worrying about him. ❛we don’t have time to rest for long, claire– not with trenchcoat thanos stomping around and checking doors.❜ another  THORN  in his already ruined side if he was being honest. between that thing and nemesis, he really wished they’d focus on fucking each other up and left them alone long enough to escape. the look on the younger redfield’s face is enough to prompt carlos to reach out, gently nudging her shoulder with a faint smile. ❛i’ll be fine, okay? we’re gonna make it out alive, together. i  PROMISE.❜

   ❛that’d be too cruel.❜ he’s said once, twice, thrice and it’s becoming a constant with their up and down antics of heroics. it may come off as a joke to her, but there’s no way the man is going to die and leave her in a world where he doesn’t  EXIST  in it at all. since half the population in raccoon city was dwindling to a mass number of negative, leaving jill all alone without one good, kindhearted man would be cruel on his behalf and if anyone hasn’t noticed, he happens to like the woman enough to spare her the agony. the moment carlos sits up, a grimace strolling across his face at the dull pain in his side, he takes a note of valentine and it’s enough to pull a smile at the corner of his mouth. was she worried about him? he likes to think she’s tough as nails at all times, but  SOMETHING  has to melt her cold heart-- if it truly is cold to begin with.❛careful,  SUPERCOP  ,  or i’ll start thinking you care about me a lot more than you let on.❜ it would be so cruel to die on her because they may not be partners in this fight, but they relied on each other to make it out this hell alive. and carlos was a man of his word, bound to fight until his last breath before clocking out easily.

   ❛yeah,❜ it’s the broken breath that makes the situation a lot worse than it previously had seemed to be, especially coming from a man like carlos oliveira with all his  CONFIDENCE  and charm lined up in a time like this. when he was young, he recalls the hopes and dreams his parents laced him with, that he would do great things for their country– he was the braveheart that most men never could be. it would be a lie to say that during his days as a mercenary, he never made any  HARD CALLS  when it came down to getting a mission done. but being a part of a catastrophe? it makes the anger spread like molten lava, makes him question what kind of person he truly was. oh, he wasn’t a bad man.. the badge he sports on his shoulder isn’t made of pride and he doesn’t want to boast about how he worked for umbrella to  SAVE LIVES  anymore. gloved hands come up to scrub at his scruffy face, as if he can erase all that’s happened. it came undone, he came undone with it. fits of rage ended up with the room a mess and yet he can’t shake off the niggling thought that he was just a pawn in their bullshit game. ❛how kind of you to finally step out the shadows and relay the truth behind everything that’s going on here. not sure why you chose me of all people, but hey? what the  FUCK  do i know anymore?❜ he’ll apologize for the snappish tone later on because she’s done him a solid favor by showing him who the real enemies were. and despite knowing this– knowing that he was bound to be killed eventually once they found out, his morals remained  UNCORRUPTED.

   this is just my little headcanon because i really loved the scene where he finds out the truth and it makes me feel like capcom changed up carlos in the remake to really give him a much more clearer personality and what kind of man he is instead of just being really flirtatious and that’s it. combining remake and movieverse carlos gives you one helluva loyal, protective and caring man.

  ❛ hell if i know. one moment those flesh eating fucks were the ones causing all the problems and then that thing showed up. seems to be intent on KILLING SUPERCOP back there and won’t stop until it does. ❜  which doesn’t make their situation any easier than what’s been happening right now. with the hospital being a hotbed for the infected, carlos doesn’t speak too loudly while holding his conversation with claire redfield. he’s glad to have met someone who could back him up just in case shit hit the fan and with them both working together, they should find the serum sooner than later. unknown to the woman next to him, carlos is struggling to come to terms with what his real mission was-- nathaniel bard. tyrell had gone on ahead to continue finding information at the police station, nicholai only god knows where and a city left in shambles. it sticks, STUCK, being called the reason for the outbreak. what the fuck was umbrella even planning? ❛ we have to be quick with finding this serum because i don’t think we’re the only ones trying to achieve it. ❜  but he’ll BE DAMNED if anyone got in his way.

   next time i’ll let nemesis play hopscotch on your tiddies since this is the thanks i get for sAVING YOUR LIFE.
