The Cloudtop District stands proudly tall, looking down at the city of Emon, and, within it, reflecting the bright light of Catha against the dark sky, is an ivory tower from which one can see, even from a distance, the orange flicker of a light coming through an open window.
Inside the white, cold walls, Allura Vysoren is bent over a stack of papers in her study, her long blonde hair braided down her shoulder while small flickering magical globes float around her. Allura scratches at the tip of her nose with the owl-feathered quill in her hand, pondering over the glyphs and texts ahead of her. She had been working on this new spell for so long, yet there hadn’t been any success.
The sound of an owl hoot comes in through the window, and the noise of footsteps echoes in the corridor. Allura is suddenly aware of how late it is as Kima appears at her doorway, her ruddy brown hair tied in a braid. Allura can’t resist a smile when she notices the large purple tunic that Kima is wearing, one she definitely stole from Allura’s closet.
“Ally, it’s late. You need to rest.” Kima touches Allura’s arm, and she can’t help but notice how cold it is.
“In a moment, dear,” Allura says, kissing Kima’s forehead, which is equally cold.
“Please come to bed. It’s so cold without you there.”
Allura can’t resist how her fierce and stout paladin begs her, this woman who, although small in stature, is so strong and capable of destroying even the vilest things. Oh, how she missed her dearly. The weeks that Kima was gone on her mission in Kraghammer were some of the worst for Allura. Not knowing where her more-than-a-friend was, if she was safe or not. She is not a woman of the gods – not how Kima is a devout believer of Bahamut – but Allura blessed the day that Vox Machina brought the halfling back to her, safe and sound.
“Alright, I guess this can wait until the morning,” Allura says, letting Kima guide her by the hand towards her beautifully decorated bedroom – their bedroom now – while the globes of light follow them through the dark and cold ivory tower.
“No wonder you’re so cold,” Allura points with a chuckle. “You left the window open again.
“I know you like to hear the sounds of the night. I just need you to warm me up, Ally.” Kima pouts, lying in bed and tapping the mattress by her side.
Allura gladly joins her lover, pressing her back against Kima’s chest, who wraps her arms around her. With the flick of a wrist, the globes disappear, and the two women cuddling are bathed in the moonlight that peers through the window as they fall asleep together with a smile on their faces.
