I justed wanted to add one thing to this: When we brainstormed the story for our (on hiatus) game, we literally looked up typical plot structure. Literally googled it. We found a page that used a super old but super popular story as an example for a certain plot structure and we ended up building our story not only on the plot structure but on that very story. (Can’t specify anything yet, sorry.) It’s basically a retelling, but we put so much of our own spin on it that you probably wouldn’t even recognise its relation to the original story. And it was so easy because of that pre-built plot structure. I’ve never created a plot that makes sense so quickly. Took us a few hours at most. (And I’m usually extremely slow with creating plots. Extremely slow. I’m talking years here.)
