Random Ramble July 3rd
Ive noticed a pattern that seems to keep happening whenever I make new projects, not just fanfiction but original works as well. They all start the same, I come up with a new idea, there's a lot of excitement and enthusiasm, and after a while, I end up writing the first chapter, then I jump into writing the second one, and third one, and so on. Writing chapter after chapter purely driven by momentum. But then there comes a point where the ideas begin to run dry, given that Im mostly working on a rough premise and making shit as I go along. And because of that improvised writing style, I begin to think more about the story Im developing and the more I think about it, the more questions about certian story telling choices and characters pop up. Sometimes Im able to answer them easily but sometimes the answers dont come easily. Things get pilled up and due to a combination burnout and other stuff, I fall out of love with the project I started and put it on hold for the time being.
I think the issue, apart from me not being the type of writer who improvise the story on the fly like Toriyama and Araki can, I think Im more used to letting a series concept sit as I slowly and meticulously develop it, and only after I feel comfortable enough do I write (and publish) the first chapter. This is something Ive grown accustomed to when working on my main project, Crescent Blue, which Ive had plenty of time to perfect and work out the kinks in after spending nearly a decade of my life on that project. That was the main thing Ive been working on (with exceptions) for the last 10 years of my existence until very recently, when I branched out to write a webnovel for the competition tapas was hosting in 2024. But Im not giving them the same amount of wait time as I did with Crescent Blue, either because I want to get the idea out there while its fresh and new, or in the case of the writing competition, I had to get something out there as soon as possible. Basically, Im not the type of guy who can come up with a fully fleshed out idea on the fly, but prefer to take my time with slowly developing an idea before I can fully show it to the world. Its why I like how Im handeling Whirlwind. Im getting the word of it out there but Im also not jumping into posting the first chapter as quickly as possible. Instead of slowly taking my time, trying to figure things out so I dont have to deal with unanswered questions later. Plus Im making art of the characters which can help in visualizing what I want from the story, which is something I could not have done with Crescent Blue when I first started developing that series since my art skills at the time were non exsitent! I wanna know if anyone else has felt this way when starting a new project or if Im alone in thinking this way lol
