despite it being a bit cliche for his wrong side of the tracks vibe, he really does live and grew up in a trailer park. call it dumb, but poverty was a thing and people were assholes. even in small towns. his mother had long pulled away from the rez when his father broughther to wrensted. not that she stayed or anything, not for long. he was a mechanic and she was a cleaning professional. clearly a match made in heaven. until she left when he was nine. left wren with a father that wasn’t physically abusive but neglectful in a way that it was way too easy to forget when his own birthday was…
in spite of the drawbacks of his background, before he hit middle school, he had been a pretty decent student. not that type that could have slept through class and still got an a. but if wren actually put his mind to it and double downed on his homework and studying, he pulled off pretty decent grades. a b average was nothing to scoff about when his belly was so empty some days it ached until he got his school lunch and then one meal at home for dinner. so studious in fact that he figured out how to forge his dad’s signature early on to get free lunches and that type of stuff.
one thing his dad and him have in common is their love for music. even before his dad got sick over the last few years, they had been able to sit down on sunday nights and listen to whatever new album, record or tape his father had gotten from the local thrift, pawn, or music shop. matter of fact, the one gift he had ever given wren for a birthday had been a barely holding together fender from the 90s. clearly had been on tour with mötley crüe or some shit but it worked.
with a record player from the 70s, a cassette player from the 80s and a damn cd player from the 90s, he had been set his entire childhood to enjoy the one thing he found solace in, music. to this day, wren still has a thing for hitting up the thrift store and finding old music that no one talks about anymore just so it can have a place on his shelf.
it was necessity that had him helping his father on the various vehicles the older man owned. eventually wren got to drive them and it wasn’t like he wanted to be caught with his pants down, so to speak, when driving them around and the junkers broke down. so, he learned from a man that mostly spoke in grunt if he wasn’t pissed off and growling about the world around him. classism and political shit always seemed to be his favorite if they weren’t arguing over albums by their favorite bands. to this day, wren still isn’t sure if his father was being playful or genuinely would have kicked his ass if he talk too much shit about some of the bands the old man liked..
with the passing of his father over the last year, he hadn’t been in the mood to deal with the town’s bullshit. he worked nearly every hour in the day to afford a life that some people wouldn’t even wish on an enemy but the moment that bitch disappeared, who did they all look at? oh well, their resident scape goat of course, wren. it didn’t help that his heart ached for a man he wasn’t sure he loved or had ever really loved in the overt sense that everyone talked about…. that his hair was something he had cropped short himself in mourning for the dead and suddenly they decided he had murdered a girl too. or had something to do with her disappearance.
look, wren got it on some level. he looked like the kind of guy that was fucking up to something. he was exhausted looking, smoking and thoroughly displeased with existance but fuck if he didn’t avoid that chick like that plague. their given history or not, he didn’t want to look at her then half the time and he was damn sick of seeing her posters around now. this is why he didn’t have facebook or instagram or any of that other shit… which… in hindsight… probably wasn’t good for any kind of alibi creation. fuck man… definitely didn’t not make him look like a serial killer….

the fool - georgia mei - betrayal. they were annoying at first. forcing their way into your solo plans and always being too loud for your serene way of life. it wasn’t until after they listened to your harshest ‘leave me alone’ that you realised their presence left a hollow you actually wanted filled. you sought them out, you played nice — they ratted you out the first chance they got. for something you know they did. you took the punishment without argument, then swiftly cut that tie. they have tried to apologise, but you won’t hear it. you know better than to give them back the knife and turn around.
the hermit: nicole carson - tba
the high priestess: peyton dazey - honestly, glad she's "gone"...
justice: justice dawson - co worker. you weren’t working the night amelia went missing, but you stopped by to collect a payslip. they were the only one to see you that night. something you didn’t really care about until the whispers started up about ‘who could do such a thing?’ — you, apparently. you’re asking them to come forward and clear your name. their condition is only if you’d be a guest on their podcast. the thought makes you sick, but how much longer can you stand the looks? what if things get worse?

the tower: sarah jeong - unlikely friends. everyone in town knew about the big blow up between amelia and the tower. you weren’t trying to be comforting, if you’re being completely honest. they just accidentally chose your favourite spot to sit and eat alone. you couldn’t just turn around once they had seen you. so you sat and ate in silence. one day and then they’ll find somewhere else, you told yourself. one day turned into many and the silence turned into polite conversation. they opened up to you, and surprisingly, you did the same. who knew that would lead to your strongest defender in the wake of amelia’s disappearance?
