#mylilsoldier #loveher #braveheart #ariah Ariah was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It is a fatal condition without constant monitoring and multiple daily injections of insulin. It is not something that she brought on herself by eating too much sugar it was something that she was born with that has unfortunately surfaced at just eight years old. 😔 Type one diabetes (unlike type 2) is basically an organ failure of the pancreas. It happens when the body attacks the healthy beta cells that are responsible for making insulin and sending it to the places where the body needs it. There is no cure for type 1 only management. Imagine being just a child and having to poke yourself with a needle several times a day to make your fingers bleed in order to test your blood and then have multiple needles injected every day throughout your body for the rest of your life. This is what my child has to face and as her mother I will be with her every step of the way day and night. I would love to hear from other parents of children who are dealing with this illness and any advice is greatly appreciated as it can be quite challenging emotionally and physically. I don't think I've had a proper nights sleep since she's been diagnosed as I constantly worry about her. I'm terrified of her glucose levels spiking low where there is a risk of coma and death in a very short amount of time (20 min). I never thought in 1 million years any of my children could become so ill so quickly and I am thankful this Thanksgiving for her second chance at life as if she did not get diagnosed when she did she probably would've died within a few days. #typeonediabetes #thankfullforinsulin
