Say hello to my new little friend. He doesn't have a name yet, because he's to become a Christmas gift to my dad who had wished for a little frog friend this year. I love him anyway. So cute it's ridiculous.
Pattern is ofc by Claire Garland. The clothes and bag and all that is just freestyled by me though.
Do you have a beginner friendly sock pattern to recommend?:-) i've been wanting to try but they all seem so daunting and I havent figured out how to read patterns yet
I would actually suggest following video tutorials on YouTube for your first socks!
Nimble needles has an excellent video
Crazy sock lady has one for both how to knit socks on dpns
And how to knit socks using magic loop
And here's one more by Erica arndt
This way you can follow along with someone and when you get to a difficult part (aka the heel flap and turn) someone is showing you how to do it and you're not trying to make sense of written instructions 😊
It may be spring where I live but I may be making some lovely autumnal themed socks with this yarn if it turns out how I want it to
Finished! I have some dark brown corriedale that should pair well with this and I'm considering this sock pattern for it
Immediately had to start spinning the pond lilies
Look at this. Green and pink is simply the best colour combination in all its variants.
Obviously this fibre wants to be a fractal spin. I'm gonna do a 2-ply to get some decent meterage; I split it 1:4.
Corriedale is one of my favourite wools, and combining it with silk is a stroke of genius. Look at that shimmer 💖
Typical for Corrie, the wool was an off-white prior to dyeing. The darker hairs are still visible if one looks closely. I love this, wool should not be too uniform, it is grown by living creatures.
Makes it look so alive 😊

sowing: I learned how to use a handspindle with a distaff recently (like you see in historical pictures) and it's SO easy, it's literally so easy, I never really got the hang of hand spindles before but this is so easy, the yarn almost spins itself, I could go through this entire 200g braid in 3 days, I could spin enough to make a whole garment!! Bow before me! I am the king and queen of fibre crafting!!!!
reaping: ouch my hand :(

TO HELL WITH ALL CURRENT PROJECTS, I GOT SOFT MAIL:
Time to spin and knit me a peach!
My dearest @fossilfibers made the discord our own existential peach colorway since we try to see how many screaming peach stickers we can find when we get new friends lol
Lets GOOOOOO
Singles are spun!
But oof, I am rusty, I spun it too thin...
Gonna take forever to knit this peach
✨Glamour shots✨
They got their bath last night, so they should be dry enough to start knitting!
208 yards on the peach, 96 yards on leaves!
This peach do be peachin 🍑
Also featuring my son, Squeep
We decreasin. Featuring my other son, Rin
On the home stretch! Then leaves!
✨Caked✨
Rin seems a little annoyed by it.
✨ Finished ✨
I gave it a tiny face
2nd attempt at this I will not rest until I get the colours in my head onto the wool perfectly.
(This attempt is looking very promising honestly)
I want some maple moth themed socks if its the last thing I do!
Results! Still has more orange than I'd like but that's ok.
This is probably the first time I've gotten the dye to (mostly) do what I want it to!
Ive been doing some dyeing over the last couple days! I really love the orange and pinky one (it was a total accident) and the more earthy toned one was just trying some new dyes I got, not entirely happy with the results but oh well at least I know what they look like on wool now!
Honestly, I can totally see both tones working well together in a garment or some yarn! The orange and pink hues would work well with the earthy tones to balance themselves out.
I've already started spinning the earth toned one! My husband pointed out that it would probably look good with a dark brown contrast cuff heel and toe for kind of a 70's colour theme!
I'm big on making socks at the moment so both of these will probably be socks to be honest :)
Uhhh I love them as socks, too! And your husband is right, the heel in a contrast tone would look great. I'd love to see them once you get around to knit the socks :)
I will most likely be sharing all the steps of the way honestly! 😊

May I offer Killie an egg in this trying time? I really want to finish my Bog coat in time to wear it in autumn. I am done with the basics, now all that's left is the annoying fiddly bits where things can go wrong - pockets, buttons, collar, hems, some embroidery. I do aim to finish it all, but the thing has been laying dormant for months and some significant progress will do. I am stuck on the inside pockets rn, hopefully this will be the kick I need to just get the damn things done.
A bog coat! @bookshelfdreams, how'd it go?
What is this blog? | Submit to get Killie another egg
Hi! Not bad!
I have become obsessed with bookbinding again and subsequently abandoned all my fibre crafts; I had originally planned to put in a few more details & decided to skip those (only did 1 inside pocket, no additional embroidery, etc. Also, forgot to line the outside pockets). But my obligation to Killie was sufficient motivation to at least finish the damn thing. Genuinely thank you so much for all you're doing, it had been laying around unfinished for months.
Here it is:
This is, of course, not a classic bog coat. It's more of a jacket for one; my fabric was too narrow to do the actual pattern. But it's still minimal waste, making the pattern follow the fabric instead of the other way 'round.
Embroidery on the sleeves that I definitely planned to put there from the start. This is not just an attempt to cover up the seams from tacking on additional fabric after I made the sleeves too short like an idiot.
The sleeves on this thing are disproportionately enormous but at least they won't crush my puffy shirts.
Mostly handstitched (except for the lining), top fabric is handspun and handwoven.
You know... I always told myself I had no interest in weaving but then I see things like this and my resolve is holding on by a tiny very frayed thread
2nd attempt at this I will not rest until I get the colours in my head onto the wool perfectly.

A lot of the red kinda washed out when I soaked it (kinda expected it tbh) but now I have handspun that reminds me a little of an orange creamsicle!
Also this is probably my most even chain ply yarn yet

I've started spinning the braid I bought a couple weeks ago!
I have that urge to make socks again, so im thinking that's what this will turn into.
Also its so nice to spin something I haven't had to process and dye myself 😂
Around 2 years ago I first saw the kromski polonaise spinning wheel.
I've thought about it at least once a day ever since, its just been sitting there in my mind and today I finally put a deposite down to own one of my very own and I am so excited!!!
