[tw: Parental death, some neglect even if they meant well]
Early life started out in a way that most things do. It was pretty simple and that was perfect really. It is perfect until it wasn’t at least. The first five years of his life were pretty easy and despite him being a clumsy little kid things were great.
At five years old a wolf stalked in through the shadows after his father spent too long fighting against him. Remus remembers that night well. He was tucked away in bed, half asleep when he heard his door open. Groggy eyes tried to make out who was there but it was a wolf. Fenrir Greyback was there and he had one goal in mind. Remus was bitten, more than once, and after screaming his father burst in and then the world went black.
Remus woke up in the hospital a few days later with the news that he would be a werewolf. That is pretty heavy as a child. He could see his father’s eyes change the way he looked at his son. Lyall was his father still, but there was something else there that little Remus didn’t understand. Now older he knows what it is. Disgust.
Any chance of being a normal kid was shattered right then and there. Down in the cellar were chains that would mark how painful it was to be something he couldn’t control. He was locked up every full moon in heavy chains and spells to prevent him from leaving the area. His wolf never much liked that and fought everything it could. He’d end up with more scars this way than anything.
They moved fairly frequently because of this. People would ask questions and then they would move from town to town. He never really had friends growing up because of this. Hogwarts changed all of that though. Fenrir always found him though. The amount of times that Remus would see him sent him on edge.
Sure he avoided making friends for the first year, but it was after that when things changed. His three roommates didn’t let him hide away. They figured out what his “condition” was and for the first time no one was scared of him. James, Sirius, and Peter chipped way at him and made him feel like he belonged somewhere. Even if at first he tried to deny it. They were the first he trusted with his secret and that was enough.
Hope has always been the biggest supporter in life. She made him whole and it would have been too easy to have that. She passed two months before he graduated from an illness. That day was the last day he spoke to his father. Once Hope died he didn’t have to keep trying to be something he wasn’t.
After school he started to hop jobs between working with the order. At one point he ended up joining Fenrir’s pack. He was doing what he could to help the order from the inside. It was hard to be in the same area as Fenrir but as time went on he found his place.
With the war over he took to writing for work. He has enjoyed it as he hasn’t had to leave it because of his “condition”
