Hi Virginia! I would really like to get your opinion on something that bothers me and I am not sure if I should be bothered. I understand why Lestat behaves all sexy and alluring in the show, why he is clothed that way (or rather not clothed) etc. That his hyper-sexualization would be a central point of this season has been clear for a long time ever since Sam started talking about the season years ago. But I wonder if AMC might have gone overboard with the marketing. All the posters were one thing. But at some point I was like "That's a lot...'". I mean just think of the media installations shown before the concert at the Beacon - that kind of thing. There is meta-commentary and then there is what is too much. I am also wondering what Sam thinks about this whole thing, which certainly we will never really find out.

This new season was a fleeting, temporary balm for me, until that scene.
Having just lost my own fur-baby very, very recently, it was upsetting to see Lestat send his lone dog (one on the show, two in the book) to roust a pack of eight wolves. EIGHT. WOLVES. Alone.
As a French fan and a very new â¨enjoyerâ¨of iwtv and tvl, I was really surprised and interested to see how people reacted to the Auvergne sequence in 3x02 / 1x02.
So, since Iâm a very annoying nerd that loves languages, I wanted to yap about why I personally think itâs great that they speak English and not French.
[I was inspired by some tweets Iâve seen, including this one highlighting the very cool costuming choices for the next episode, shoutout đŤś]
At first I was surprised by the use of English, because you would expect all of these flashbacks to be in French, right ? I even saw some fans say it would be more historical accurate. But then I remembered what I was taught about the French language, and actuallyâŚ
In the 18th century in France, most people didnât ÂŤÂ speak French  historically (at least not the language we know today). In Auvergne in 1772, all these characters would learn and speak the regional dialect, called Auvergnat. Itâs an occitan language, closer to Latin or Catalan than French. So historically speaking, nope, the Lioncourts wouldnât speak French in 1772! đ

I find that fact illuminating, because it leads me to believe that (at least in my headcanon) :
1- Lestat didnât know the language spoken in Paris until he got there, so it must have been quite difficult for him to find his footing. Iâm now even more inclined to forgive Sam Reid for his French accent and pronunciation (I think heâs brilliant in the show btw đ), because realistically poor Lestat must have struggled back then too đ !
2- Gabrielle/Gabriella would feel even more alienated in this family, because not only was she canonically Italian (and probably spoke the dialect of her hometown), she most likely had to learn Auvergnat (and not the more widely known French language) to understand her husband. It also explains why she wouldnât have a French accent ^^
Whatâs particularly surprising to me is that vampires in this universe have brain chemistries that can be altered by human narcoticsâthe same as humans.

I think it's funny how the marketing for tvl was like "the music is awesome! Rock star lestat" and then the first episode everyone, including lestat, is like "this shit is middling to bad"
*snickering* I suspected they might do that, specifically to use the lore that vampires canât truly create Art. All they can do is produce a proximation of it.
And the fact that Lestat will see the male Opera Singer again teases that heâs got some reckoning to do with all the people in his past that his superiority complex laid waste to.
I'm so sorry for your loss! If she was a rescue though, it's pretty likely she was a mixed breed, not any one in particular. Emma, the black & white one here, is a mix of a lot of breeds. We haven't gotten an embark done on her, but her sister's had like 4 different terriers + chihuahua and a couple other things. Depending on how big your Sami was, maybe look at terrier/chi mixes?
