Helena played a really big role in No Man’s Land, and while Bruce wasn’t going out as Batman she took on the role of the Bat. During this for the most part she was basically pulling double shifts as both Huntress and the Bat and generally being an absolute legend

black comic readers will say "buying black lead comics or black characters comics from dc doesn't stop them from getting axed and it's been literally 1200 days since dc has had a black ongoing so we're calling for a boycott to put pressure on dc by not buying comics and instead directly supporting black creatives" and here come the dumbest white people on the earth going "but dc is releasing pride month comics, do you hate queer people? but dc has female creators releasing comics, do you hate women? this boycott is so disorganised. i can't believe you hate queer people"
the boycott is declared over by the official head of DcSoWhite and this was included in their statement. It lasted 3 days. I respect their decision but the fact remains that people were arguing so much about non black people being excluded from a Black centric boycott to the point where they needed to apologise for it infuriates me
[ID: Text that reads, "The fact remains that it has been more than 1200 days since a Black character has headlined a solo title in DC Comics' mainline continuity. We continue to believe this is an issue worth discussing and addressing. However, we also recognize that many fans and creators we care about felt the boycott unintentionally minimized books, characters, and creators whose work provides meaningful representation for women, LGBTQIA+ readers, people of color, and other marginalized communities. That was never out intention, and we apologize for that impact. We heard those concerns, and they played a major role in our decision to reevaluate the boycott." /End ID.]
people will call them discrimination comics as the punchline to a joke and then when a boycott comes around in an attempt to rectify said discrimination they’ll shut them down in 3 days for not being specific enough instead of using their own initiative and then go back to calling them discrimination comics and not reading for any black characters/characters of colour ever
when you're at a point where you're publishing comics with worse, less substantial representation of black characters than you were in the 90s or 2000s, i feel like, and now maybe this is crazy, but i feel like maybe you should at least acknowledge that you have an issue

Anyway, I know that a lot of people here on tumblr do not actually buy comics, but I do want to encourage people to think about what you can do to support DCBlackout. I know that I am not a person who's purchases drive metrics at DC comics. I only put in a preorder for comics once in a blue moon, I read digitally, and I buy collected editions, but yesterday I canceled my dcui subscription and while the boycott continues, I'm not going to renew it. While I'll probably still get dc comics through second hand sources here and there, I'm not going to buy any new comics from them either.
There should be more opportunities for black creators at DC and there should be more stories for characters like Nubia, Steel, Vixen, The Signal, Mr Terrific, everyone from Milestone and more.
Even if you're not a comics buyer, you can still sign the petition and you can share your favorite independent comics from black creators. I'll start: Everyone should read Prince of Cats by Ronald Wimberly.
Try and seek out new works and expand your horizons. That's what I'll be doing.

jason and tim can be brothers but they can’t be close because that’s super boring. jason has tim saved under “SCAM LIKELY” and tim doesn’t have jason’s number saved at all. beyond the resentment and the history there they just wouldn’t fuck with each other, endless cycle of ragebaiting and ragebaited switching back and forth whenever they have to interact with one another for more than like 20 minutes at a time and honestly that’s being generous. tim’s friends would resent jason for him being violent and awful but at this point tim would just resent him for being ridiculously irritating. BEST CASE SCENARIO would have them in a tom and jerry dynamic but without the underlying feeling of camaraderie and interdependence that tom and jerry share because tim and jason could go the rest of their lives without seeing each other and truly honest to god would not give a shit. this got really insanely long for no reason idk what my problem is today no one cares
rlly fascinating phenomenon to me is when a character is extremely popular, and that popularity seems understandable enough because they've got something interesting going on, and then you look at the fandom and realize 99% of their fans don't actually care about engaging with any of the things that make them interesting and instead seem to be fans of an imaginary milquetoast version that exists solely for ship and/or angst content and is so far removed from the canon character they might as well be an unrelated OC at this point
My mom managed to dig up some old teen titans comics from when she was a kid. They were printed in black and white (I'm assuming to save money) but she had coloured in the characters herself in a couple of places which is really cute 😭❤️
