The BladeBreakers - Headcanons
I might do the white tigers or some of the metal saga characters for head canons next if I can get some good ideas in, I wasn't able to brainstorm another fic but I'd love to hear any recs so I can use them as a jumping off point
Head canons under the cut :3
You know, we never did get clarification in the anime if Kai always dresses the way he does or if its like a blader persona. We saw a glimpse of him dressed more "normal" in vforce when he was at school. But its usually assumed he was just being forced to follow a dresscode (tho the piercing would probably break that if he was still in Japan LOL Kai pls)
I love that Rising showed him actually dressing like a regular teenager when he wasn't blading. I love that he's eccentric enough to have a whole persona and outfit just for blading and he'll change into it beforehand.
Reminds me of what the Euro team does LOL and I bet he would hate that comparison.
Every time Mayblade comes around, I end up rewatching so much Beyblade and I genuinely canāt fathom how anyone can call Takao weak or pathetic.
Keeping his beyblading skills aside, like physically he is so strong. In V-force, he matches up with the driving speed of cars on a bicycle TWICE, he literally runs the length of half a town within minutes.
Even with Kendo, his grandfather is a Kendo master (you canāt get the license to teach or run a dojo unless you get to a certain level, trust me Iāve done plenty research) and Takao is often shown to outsmart him during training, landing direct hits on him. This also proves that he definitely knows how to strategise, to land a hit on your opponent in kendo, takes not just strength but concentration and quick thinking.
During the abducted island part, his ankle breaks pretty early on in the arc but he actually does suppress all of that pain and is hyperactive and goes on to battle through all of it AND WIN mind you š¤ He also has to be held back so many times when he gets angry, like everyone just knows heād throw a few punches and start a fight (that he will 100% finish).
And I was just watching the first episode of Grev yesterday and I realised that when Daichi shows up with his unconventional way of battling outside of the Beystadium, there are two moments that make Kai smile. First is when Daichi taunts Takao about not wanting to step outside his comfort zone, Takao immediately takes up his challenge and commands Dragoon to follow Gaia Dragoon up the hill. Kai sees this and smirks at how easily Takao has kept up with Daichi. Next when Takao is struggling against Gaia Dragoonās attack, Kai advises him to focus on the beyblade itself - and sure itās Kai who points him in the right direction, but the one who comes up with the strategy to use Daichiās own play against him and totally destroy him in the match is Takao. Thatās why Kai smiled when Takao wins because he knows that Takao is just that strong, and canāt be done in with new tricks so easily.
And this is just one example, there are sooo many more.
Like does nobody ever stop to think that maybe the reason half the plot of Grev is everyone wanting to compete against Tyson and beat him to prove their own worth is because they all think Tyson is just that strong?
The only thing that actually weakens him is when his mental health takes a hit after his friends abandon him, literally the only time he hasnāt been able to battle at full strength in any of the seasons is when he the opponent in front of him was someone he considered a friend or an ally.
Literally one of the most well rounded protagonists in shonen/sports anime and people like to downplay his character as āplot armourā just because they actually refuse to watch all the scenes that clearly showcase his various strengths (and weaknesses).
Can confirm, this is true. (Also in the Manga, he does occasionally throw actual punches lol)
This also isn't to mention how he pretty seamlessly adapts to beybladers literally warping reality around him, like Tala and especially Brooklyn. One of the things I actually really appreciate a lot about Classic Beyblade is the way a lot of the themes run through a whole season, I think G-Revolution is a perfect example of this. OP mentioned the scene in episode 1 where Daichi's Gaia Dragoon is knocked out of the stadium, but he insists on continuing to battle, stating that "Where I come from, the whole world is our stadium!" and Tyson, of course has to adapt to this. But that doesn't stop after the first episode, it's a running theme throughout the whole season, with many of the stadiums they battle in during the tournament taking on the form of large and open outdoor spaces rather than standard issue dishes or even the more enclosed special stadiums in the first season. This all ends up culminating in Tyson literally having to beybattle in the sky of Brooklyn's New World where there is no ground let alone a stadium, and at that point...he just kinda does it.
Tyson's charisma levels are also off the charts if you want to get even more technical. Maybe it's more "persuasion" I'm not sure, but it's worth noting that he pretty much single handedly reformed several otherwise evil or shady beybladers, convincing them to stop cheating, often times while mid-battle with him, and always resulting in him winning.
This is technically a separate topic, but it's worth noting, too - if we considering the Manga continuity as canon in place of Anime Seasons that don't exist, Tyson is also the most versatile protagonist, with experience in every generation of Beyblade (Prior to X) as per the Beyblade Rising Manga where he and the OG's experience Beyblade Burst, and the Metal Fight system wouldn't have existed without the HMS. But I digress, I'm really just geeking out here because I have a deep appreciation for OG.
He's not my favorite Beyblade Character, but he's certainly still my favorite of the protagonists.
Soichiro used Kai.
Volkov used Kai.
Daitenji used Kai.
And Yuriy used Kai...
Yuriy knew about Volkov's plans and so Neoborg entered into the World Championships in order to stop Volkov. Yuriy's goal was to become champion so that he could interfere with BEGA before it even got started... In order to ensure his victory, Yuriy reached out to Kai to join them so they could use his strength and guarantee they'd make it to the top. All this right after Kai had said:
No matter what Kai does, no matter what path he travels, even when he thinks he's in control (in this case using Yuriy to get to Takao) Kai's decisions have NEVER been his own.
In the moment Kai joins with BEGA, Kai is MAD, and I think the choice comes as completely irrational. But he's so SICK of everyone using him.
So fuck them all.
He'll use BEGA to fight Takao again.
So actually, it's Hitoshi's fault this happens.
Ya'll, I am not intelligent enough for this post to have 76 notes.

Okay, so after a decent amount of time searching the web, I have finally found an official Japanese website where you can legally read the Beyblade Rising manga.
https://www.corocoro.jp/title/383
Most chapters you can read for free. However, the last chapter is, unfortunately, paywalled.
Does anybody know what happens in the last chapter? I can only use Google translate for Japanese, and I have no clue if they accept PayPal and really don't wanna give any out payment information on websites where I don't speak the language.

He aged like wineā¦
more things I noticed from capping:
Tala used to be TALL. He was almost as tall as Spencer in season one:
and then puberty hit Bryan and Spencer like a transfer truck going 90 between season one and season three:
thus Tala went from a TOL to a smol. And Iām sure he canāt FUCKING STAND IT.

Things that keep me up at night: WHY DO THEY NOT SHOW BRYAN AND SPENCER AT THE HOSPITAL WITH TALA??? You CANNOT make me believe that they werenāt there every second of every day giving the doctors hell.
Iām upset in general at how the B-boys were treated in G-revolution. Tala got beaten into a coma where are Bryan and Spencer??? They got defeated by Garland too and they just disappear.Ā
I cannot get started on another B-boy rant omg letās just say I have very very very strong feelings about it >.>
I hate how little attention they got. It was like they were only there to be used by Kai. Tala almost lost TO KENNY. TALA. FUCKING. VALKOV. (No hate towards Kenny or anything but seriously.) I have so many strong feelings as well.
Incredibly accurate tags courtesy of @bllitzkriegboys
Iāve been thinking this since G Rev was released! They been together since infancy and they stood together after Boris/Volkov, you knoe they care about each other and yet Bryan and Spencer were only there as extras. And donāt even let me start on Tala fighting Kenny! This is why I prefer the manga version of G rev, makes more sense and the strong ones remains on top. Tala is the third stronger, according to Aoki.
Oh my god thisssssss
Like seriously, I can suspend my disbelief that okay, maybe something happened with Ivan and he couldnāt be at the tournament with them
But what happened to Boris and Sergey??? The only possible excuse I can think of is they are /also/ in a coma at the same time and thus are actually unable to go see Yuriy (because again, there is no way they would not be there every second for him otherwise).
Donāt even get me started on all of Yuriyās battles and how he deserved SO MUCH BETTER IN G REV
At least the B-Boys got more attention then that Majestics
Right? You never even see the 4 of them all together except for one short shot of them watching the finals. I loved the Majestics in season one and really wish they had been in G-rev, even if it was just them helping in the Bega arc. Anything would have been better than what little they got.
ALL OF THIS.
Omg the rants i could go on here for both the Blitz boiz and the Majestics. Like seriously.
When my squad and I enter the club
Kai looks so bitchy, he is the walmart karen (I love him so much)
being a yubo fan sucks because boris does nothing in the anime. in the manga hes great but manga YURIY fucking sucks. gotta combine the good parts of them togheter MYSELF
Mom, the gays look scary tonight.
What are your headcanons on Kai being the spoiled rich kid he is.
Spoiled rich kid Kai - I love that ask!Ā
So, yes, Kai is spoiled, but it is a certain kind of being spoiled, and, in my opinion, it says a lot about his relationship with Soichiro. At least when it comes to my headcanons.Ā
Basically, itās all about status. Kai is a Hiwatari. Of course he canāt show up anywhere in an old truck, it has to be the limousine with the chauffeur. Of course he cannot wear tracksuits (Beyblading aside, I guess?), it has to be nice, fitted clothes. And of course he cannot go to the same school as someone like Takao Kinomiya - it has to be the English all-boys boarding school for snobs (or a paramilitary torture house in Russia, but thatās another story).Ā
All this comes from Soichiro. He doesnāt want Kai to end up like his father, and also he needs an heir for the company. So this is what he does, putting Kai in a golden cage and locking him up for as long as possible. It is a strong power dynamic, and even though Kai gets some luxury, he is the weaker part. Soichiro makes sure he is completely dependent on him.Ā
I actually donāt think Kai is walking around with a lot of cash. He doesnāt have much money on disposal (contrary to, for example, Giancarlo), because Soichiro knows that Kai is smart and will use his money for things he wonāt approve of. He makes Kai beg for the (material) things he really wants. I mean, in Omniscient he makes Kai a shareholder of a company for his birthday. Talking about thoughtful gifts. All Soichiro does is tie Kai closer to Hiwatari Enterprises, if he wants it or not. And with that comes luxury as well.
And of course Kai is influenced by all that. Sure, in the Abbey he came into contact with poverty, but it didnāt affect him that much, or he didnāt fully understand what that meant. After all, he never saw how the other boys lived before the Abbey, and in the Abbey they all suffered the same way. He doesnāt know what it means to not be able to pay the bills or save up just to be able to afford the basic stuff. He can devote himself to āa higher goalā because he doesnāt have to worry about where to sleep or what to eat - or even how to pay for his education.Ā
I think he sometimes tends to forget how much all that is worth. Also having āthe right nameā. Hiwatari must be a name that opens all kinds of doors. But I like to think that as he gets older he makes good use of his power.Ā
Still there will be habits that just show how much of a spoiled brat he is. Judging peopleās clothes for example. Or the furniture they put in their flats (not necessarily the size of flats, he knows housing is a big problem, but he doesnāt understand why people wouldnāt want their homes to look, you know, nice. He thinks you can do that on a budget). He probably has a house somewhere, filled with cats. And a maid for the cats. Or he has an extravagant collection of...something. Limited edition beyblades. Cat collars. Art? Idk, something weird. Maybe he has a thing for cars. Oh, and he definitely makes expensive gifts. Itās his love language. It can get a bit overwhelming, but he means no harm, he is just⦠clumsy with showing affection I guess.Ā
Okay but the idea of Kai begging for clothes while also looking at the sort of shit he wears beyblading has me in tears
āI need money.ā
āFor what?ā
āBlue face paint.ā

Iām not entirely convinced that Goh Hiwitari isnāt a clone that Kaiās rich ass created to give himself the childhood he never had.
That or something made for organ harvesting reasons. Whichever floats your boat.
It takes Kaiās friends the entire first season to break through his walls and allow him to trust them. It takes the entire season for him to be able to call them his friends and let his guard down. Even in the first few episodes of season three he seems to have a semi normal relationship with them. He spends time with them, they do normal teenager shit together even if Kaiās version of that is chewing on a piece of straw while Tyson teaches kids how to beybattle. In his own way, heās developed that bond. It isnāt until Max and Ray decide to leave that he starts getting into old habits again.
While its true that Kai left because he wanted the ability to battle Tyson and couldnāt do so if they were going to be a part of the same team, itās definitely hard not to question whether or not there was more to it than that. Season one in particular goes out of its way to show that Kai has significant trauma and possibly PTSD, meaning itās very possible he left for reasons other than wanting to prove something. People with trauma tend to latch strongly to the ones theyāve bonded to but also have a tendency to really struggle with trust depending on whatās caused their trauma in the first place. It really seems like Ray and Max leaving had a significant impact on his progress, tapping into his trust issues and basically āprovingā that he was right not to let people in. He felt abandoned and retaliated, putting his walls back up once again. Even Hiro states that Yuri was using him in order to get himself into the finals (donāt even get my started on Hiro, Iām not entirely convinced that he didnāt go out of his way to brainwash Kai into leaving, but thatās neither here nor there).
Honestly, Iām not even really trying to prove any sort of point in saying any of this other than to acknowledge that Kai is trauma baby who must be protected at all costs and that thereās a reason heās the fan favorite for those of us who are also trauma babies.
Isnāt this also why we all love Neoborg/Blitzkrieg?
I love how the only time we see Tala look genuinely happy is when heās on his way to fuck up Boris in season 3
My theory is that Max and Ray leaving made him think his friends would only want him in their lives if he is a relevant rival. Like if he stops being a relevant beyblader they will forget him. He seems to have a similar complex in v force. Breaking off contact entirely cause he's like "I stopped beyblading, why would they care about me now? I'm of no use to them".
Wouldn't be surprised if his grandfather disowned him or sent him to boarding school because he quit.
