okay so I finished The Invisible Library (book 1... of 8....) and one of the reviews I saw (I looked at them to try to get a sense of if it would be worth it to keep reading. they weren't helpful) said it seemed like they were setting up Irene to have a love interest in this guy named Peregrine Vale, who's a world famous detective type, and this whole time I've been looking out for sparks and dreading it, and.... lmao. nope. She does blush a few times relating to him, but it's all out of embarrassment because detective stories are her favorite genre (she picked the name Irene for herself) and it's basically a dream come true that she's getting to work with one. that, and she explicitly said her type is "darkly dangerous and fascinating, of dubious morality", which is... not what Vale is. and also there's someone else I'm pretty sure has fallen for Vale instead
