other people can convert me into different versions of myself whose qualities are determined by the presence of that specific person. insofar as people can naturally convert other people into specific specialized versions of themselves in this way, one is in fact helpless about what version of themselves they are, & entitled to self pity about it, because you can’t just magically meet whoever you want to meet, & thus cannot strictly be who you want to be. it’s not about the “salvation” they would bring you, it’s about a legitimate mechanism of self-creation that you have no control over. there are entire mes in me who i can’t remember even exist if they are not resupplied by people with the completely utterly inscrutable ability to resupply them. & i have no preemptive understanding of what sort of person would resupply whom in me, nor do i even know who i am trying to resupply, because none of these mes even have names, in addition to being prone to becoming invisible to me
