"Om Mani Padme Hum"

AVALOKITESVARA - THE EMBODIMENT OF COMPASSION

In The Lotus Sutra, Avalokitesvara is revealed as the living embodiment of Compassion - the Bodhisattva who listens deeply to the cries of the world.

This sacred listening is more than hearing sound. It is the ability to enter another being's sorrow without turning away. Wherever there is fear, grief, loneliness, danger, or despair, Avalokitesvara responds with a heart unhindered by judgment.

The sutra describes this compassion taking many forms. Avalokitesvara appears in whatever form will best guide a suffering being: as a monk or nun, a parent, a teacher, a child, a ruler, or a humble companion. Compassion does not insist upon one face. Like water entering vessels of different shapes, it adapts itself to what is truly needed.

To remember Avalokitesvara is also to awaken that same sacred capacity within the heart. Every patient silence, gentle word, forgiven wound, and hand extended toward another becomes an expression of the Bodhisattva's vow.

The world's cries are countless, yet compassion does not ask whether they are deserved.

It simply listens.
