SH: -"Your mind: it’s so placid, straightforward, barely used. Mine’s like an engine, racing out of control; a rocket tearing itself to pieces trapped on the launch pad. (Loudly, frantically) I need a case!"
JW: (equally loudly): -"You’ve just solved one! By harpooning a dead pig, apparently!"

Ok, and so everyone knows what @a-victorian-girl had to work with:
There isn't a single frame in that episode where Sherlock is seen as in Vicky's pic. I wondered what she meant with 'Rebuilt frame by frame, like a puzzle :)' and obviously checked. 😇
The amount of skill, time and patience which was needed to create that pic is insane. Superb job, Vicky!

I bailed on most SM platforms, so maybe the writers I’m going to feature are promoting their fics like mad where I don’t see them.
But on the very off chance that anyone on tumblr hasn’t found their way to them yet, here goes. (And if you DO love them, thanks for reblogging to spread the love!)
First up: stopthat
I would read a stopthat fic shipping two ants in an ant farm. Fortunately, today they started posting a Johnlock story, no ants. My heart leaped up when I got the notification from AO3, and again when I read the chapter quickly, and yet again (several times) when I read it slowly a few hours later.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the
Organization for Transformative Works
Tapestry (1/4 chapters, 2149 words so far).
Summary: John and Rosie are away, maybe just far enough away for John and Sherlock to come clean with each other.
Excerpt:
The flirtation is something new between them—barefaced and blatant beneath a thinning mask of banter, often cut short and ultimately ignored. This candid side of John—this exhilarating openness—will spark a million little fires all across his skin, burning points of frisson. The searing shock of it will launch his heart straight through the ceiling—always just a bit frustrating when it flops back down into his chest.
John knows full well he isn’t interested in sex, and he is all too aware John isn’t interested in men.
And yet.
*
Stopthat writes so beautifully, and the portrait of Sherlock in a newly-empty home, consoling himself with a John t-shirt and a visit to John's bed--poignant and insightful. Their banter that darts in so close to unveiled honesty, stopping in also to wave at bravado flirting (but still taking shelter in the cul de sac of plausible deniability--!), and finally pulling up to the courage of self-revelation: I'd take every day of the week. And the range in their skills--! How quickly they telegraph body positions and associated expressions and emotions. How deft, their bark-with-laughter quips and their knife-in-my-ribs tenderness.

A couple of short one-shots to get a sense of stopthat’s themes and style:

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the
Organization for Transformative Works
Summary:
John has only caught glimpses of it before. He’s seen flashes of it, in Sherlock’s less guarded moments, only to doubt it all completely once it’s been carefully shuttered away.
But Sherlock is not hiding now.
If I quoted every sentence that made me say "oh that, now THAT is just perfect" I'd be copy-pasting the whole thing. I love how this builds and crests and ebbs with such uncertain inevitability. Just a few gems:
• John stares at him, bemused, drinking him in, stealing this opportunity to bask in the beginnings of an unprecedented transparency that’s been developing between them.
• It’s part of their routine, he supposes, to pretend he’s finding some level of fulfillment with the carousel of women he spends his evenings trying to woo.
His heart isn’t in it. His heart is lying here beside him on their sitting room floor.
• They look like two people whose fates have been woven together rather quickly and quite irreversibly through many shared traumas and some sort of unnamable bond.
Stopthat has 26 works posted on AO3. Here’s a knockout, featuring a demisexual Sherlock and a gay John Watson:
Anything at All (7/12 chapters, 31K words so far)

Summary: London, 1998. In a time of hollowness and upheaval, two wayward young men wander into each other's lives, forever altering the course of history.
As a former "Non-Tumblr Johnlocker" myself (for two and a half years!! 😱😱) I must say, this is such a kind gesture, and much needed as well. @totallysilvergirl is a treasure for this fandom! ❤️

Sherlock shook his head. “They’re on their annual vacation, won’t be back until the first week of March.” He held up a tin. “I’ve found some beans.”
“And I’ve got half a sausage. We really need to do some shopping.” John cracked open the lid of the container and sniffed. “Yeah, that’s still all right. Do you remember how long we’ve had these eggs?”
Sherlock and John scrounge up something to eat after getting home from a case.

I never watched BBC Sherlock or engaged in the fandom and being into original Sherlock Holmes in the year 2024 feels like frolicking in a meadow that’s grown up over a battlefield. Occasionally a war weary veteran with shadows in their eyes will find me. “Don’t you know what happened in this place?” they ask me. “I literally don’t,” I reply, and go back to drawing guys from 1895.
I arrived late to the BBC Sherlock party (2021) and still I feel I am, too, enjoying the flowery meadow myself. I know the fandom's been a mess in the past, but I'm getting tired of the hate (first Sherlock & co. fans, now acd apparently)... Just let me enjoy the dumb show and have fun sharing my obsession without having to hear the show is shit every two posts 😭

John can't wait for the trip. It'll be kind of a “sex holiday,” only it isn't a holiday. John's attending a conference in Wales, and Sherlock is tagging along.
They both had a hard time being apart whenever John attended such events in the past. This time they'll be together. During the day, Sherlock will solve cases per email from their hotel room and John will follow the lectures, and they'll have the evenings for themselves.
“Sherlock, you ready? The taxi’s waiting.”
“Coming!” Sherlock emerges from the bedroom with their suitcases. A quick peck, and they are heading downstairs together.
And so, Fluffbruary comes to an end :')
I've never been so invested in posting fanfic before (I mean, 29 days in a row!) and, the other times I posted collections (i. e. the last two Christmases), I always had everything already written before I started sharing it. This time, it was sort of a long work in progress, which is why I called it "madness" 😂 It has been wonderful, though. I had a blast this month, and the readers' responses made it all even better! So THANK YOU so much for all your comments, likes, and reblogs, and mostly, for dedicating time to reading my silly fanfiction! 🥰
In ao3 you can find all the Fluffbruary drabbles together in a neat collection, as well as other drabbles, 221Bs, and ficlets of various lengths. Come say hi! ❤️
It was yet another quiet day at 221B; John knew he'd better enjoy the calm before the storm.
Sherlock seemed still at peace, but John eyed him warily when he grabbed his violin, anticipating some screeching.
Once Sherlock started playing, John's concerns evaporated.
The music was lovely and intense, almost a solid presence in the flat. John felt it like a caress, making his skin tingle with each note as it rose and fell. It took him in a journey, almost transcendental.
When it was over, John felt dazed, and Sherlock looked awfully pleased with John's reaction, and with himself.
And an immense THANK YOU for reblogging/leaving comments/liking my stuff. It means the world to me, and interacting with the fandom is one of my biggest joys! 🥰
Because February is just not big enough to contain all the fluff, we have fluffnapped the 14th of every month and appended those dates to Fluffbruary. It's the Fluffbruary: Extended Edition. And now?
The INFINIFLUFF 2024 prompt list has arrived!
All fandoms, all ships welcome! Tag @fluffbruary in your posts so we can reblog your fluffy creations--and please reblog THIS post so your tumblr community sees it and comes to play in the fluff.

Sherlock thinks of his body as transport; always has, always will. However, John continually forces him to challenge that notion.
John handles Sherlock's body like no one else ever has: with utter care and devotion, like Sherlock is something precious.
Today, John is working the tension off Sherlock's neck, back and shoulders. Gentle but firm, a doctor and a soldier all at once, John conquers Sherlock's body, pressing the muscles until they surrender. Sherlock is helpless under John's capable hands, which wring the most exquisite combination of pleasure and pain from him. Sherlock comes undone, and he just loves it.

Most childhood memories Sherlock has deleted. Some, however, have proven worthy of keeping: fragments he can relive for comfort when things get too overwhelming or bleak.
He's six, at his grandmother's house, helping her cook lunch (or, at least, that's what she lets him believe). The fragrance of thyme arrives from the garden through the kitchen windows, and he breathes in deep, filling his lungs with it.
After lunch, they will spend some time outside, his grandmother doing crochet in the back porch, Sherlock playing fetch with Redbeard. An idle and carefree afternoon ahead, to be spent in good company.

YES, of course Redbeard is a dog! Anyone who says otherwise is just WRONG 😆
And also: just like Sherlock, when I was growing up, I also had an Irish Setter. And any time Redbeard is mentioned, I remember him, and it gives me feels 🥺❤️
(Too bad I don't have any pictures of him with me, I would've liked to share!)
