This is my boyfriend, Jay. He’s a trans guy who has a lot of difficulty with self confidence. It took a lot of courage for him just to agree to this picture. He feels like he’s unattractive, both for being trans and other reasons.

I’ve had a lot of ups and downs, being a trans person. I’ve been hated, I’ve been loved, called a monster and an inspiration and a liar. In the end I’m just a person trying to love myself.

People will tell you if you’re trans that you’ll never be happy. That you’ll never live life to the fullest. That you’ll be an outsider forever.

I have friends. I have three beautiful romantic partners. I have nice clothes and a roof over my head. I’m on my way to getting the hormones and surgery I so desperately need to feel right in my body. And sure, I have bad days. We all do. People have shunned me, abandoned me, cried for a girl they think they lost but in truth never existed in the first place. I am just starting on a journey that I know is going to be painful and ruthless. 

But I’m happy, and being trans isn’t stopping me from being happy.

Transgender doesn’t have to mean miserable. Never forget that.

I’ve moved out of my mom’s house. I dyed my hair red, got a tongue piercing, and possibly found the career path I want.

My phone has completely bitten the dust and I can’t get a new one just yet.

I’m closer to getting T. My mother is no longer threatening to take my medical insurance away if I go on it.

My depression and anxiety seem to be improving slightly. The BPD is just as bad as ever, but hey, that shit’s tough.
