ok i suddenly had a thought and got curious

visual artists: when you have an idea for something, does it appear in your mind as the finished product, the steps you'll have to take, a sentence, or something else?

finished thing (i saw an image of an apple in my head so that's what i'll draw)

steps (if i draw an apple, i'll draw a circle as a guide first, then...)

sentence (i should draw an apple being picked from a tree)

a combination of these (tell me in the tags!!)

something else (also tell me in the tags!!!!)

not a visual artist, just curious.

Remaining time: 2 days 6 hours

i have aphantasia (i can't see images in my brain) so i just like hearing how other people visualize ideas LOL also hopefully the examples i wrote make sense it's kind of hard to put into words but ehhhh

#often the first thing i'm working from is an emotion- despair/fury/relief- not mine! but something i wanna draw so i feel an echo of it #then it's low detail video daydream mode where i construct a plausible scenario #and 3D object rotate time where i look for an angle that looks good and i know how to draw #and then i start drawing! and then sometimes throw half of that ^ out bc my ability to visualize isn't perfect #once i start drawing i'm often like 'i need to figure out where the limbs go' 'oops my idea had their legs clipping into each other'#'oh so *that's* what expression this guy is making' 'what are the colors' 'this pose isn't working i need a pic of myself for reference'#and then sometimes none of that happens and i just get the 'draw character' feeling (not a sentence) and i draw a static headshot

just finished reading witch hat atelier! *stares at the ceiling, filled with an emotion i cannot name that nonetheless sticks to the back of my throat and lies heavy in my stomach* haha what the fuck

so it turns out i felt so mentally bad bc i literally needed to touch grass lol

i mean jokes aside, watching a little shrew scurry around under dead leaves and eat 4 bugs each proportionately the size of a double whopper (where are you putting all that little dude), then doing yard work until i got tired and basking in the sun until i got hungry seems to have fixed me. also there were lots of bumblebees out there and some butterflies and the cherry and mulberry trees have started to grow their fruit (they'll start to be ready for picking in maybe a month) and the oak trees' tiny budding leaves are so cute and red and the moss is squishy and i blew on a dandelion and got yelled at by a tufted titmouse

#What Chemicals TM spontaneously unbalanced in my brain today???#all i can think about is how my art sucks and my writing sucks worse and my story is terrible and everything i've written is trash #also more specific critiques but we are NOT gonna get into that i did the best i could and chose 'done' in 'perfect vs done'#but i can't get it out of my head that my fic is an unintelligible boring mess to anyone who isn't me
