Some people on the metlife walk topic are like "Americans, you're being trolled and you don't even realize"
babe do you know how many European tourists regularly almost die because they overestimated themselves
Not everything is as extreme as the death valley Germans but European tourists FAMOUSLY do this shit everywhere that isn't Europe. Some people may be trolling, but history says that a non-zero quantity are deadly serious.
Americans are saying this because. It. Happens.
"I can walk that" no you can't "I don't need water" yes you do "It's just a few hours" it is not
"They're just trolling you, none of us are actually going to--" people do. Every damn day. Maybe not this exactly. Usually it's in the national parks. But something similarly dumb. And it's VERY OFTEN Europeans.
Europeans in particular are just so used to everything being Small, and the idea that Americans in particular are too stupid to live and that they, as Europeans, are inherently smarter... and honestly, I agree with that person who said that it's a little bit of white supremacy happening.
The idea that someone in another country just needs to be shown the way, that you can manage their land and culture better than they can, that you are smarter and more resourceful, that's the supremacy talking. Doesn't have to be white, really, but if it's Europeans.... yeah, babe.
The National Parks have a death toll and it's not because all Americans are inherently stupid; the assumption that it is leads to more Europeans getting in trouble than otherwise might have.
American roads have a death toll and it's not because all Americans are inherently stupid. We can assume here as well that history will repeat itself, and that Europeans will assume that it is, and get in more trouble than they otherwise might have.
Also the general irony of saying that, of all Americans, it's the NJ/NYC folk that don't know how to walk.
If every other city isn't commenting about their local stadium, but Manhattanites are telling you that you can't walk somewhere, maybe. Maybe sit down and listen.
I considered walking to Met Life once, at least partway, from Manhattan, because it's Just Across The River from where I work. And then I checked. And I decided to do the sane thing and take the train.
#I have worked in the tourist industry and can confirm #Europeans can do dumb touristy shit #the most common is underestimating the distance of things in America #and not understanding the weather#so everything about this is very believable to me #also can confirm they suck at national parks #I am not going into details but I’ve seen some people massively dismiss the challenges of American terrain (via @spockwithacat)
Beautiful and kind, check. Looks like butter, sure.
But let's not overlook the elegant engineering of the soap dish itself: that graceful stem is positioned to let water drain out of the dish, avoiding the issue of "soap soup" that most soap dishes accumulate.

When I was early on in my transition I got in a Lyft, and the driver was this big country guy. I was a little nervous so I just sat quietly in the back.
After a moment he changed the music on his phone to what sounded like a Hatsune Miku song. Curiosity got the better of me, so I finally spoke up and said “is this Hatsune Miku?”
And he said “Yep. You looked uncomfortable, and I know Transgender women like Hatsune Miku, so I thought it might help.”
I think about that interaction a lot.

When a secretive $1.6 billion data center proposal landed in Menomonie with almost no warning, residents had weeks to fight back. They won —
Residents had serious concerns about the project. While companies often win major tax breaks by promising jobs and economic stimulation, data centers bring few permanent jobs and can drain municipal water resources, drive up electric bills, rob cities of tax revenues, and cause damaging noise, light, and air pollution. Already, Wisconsin residents have seen some of these impacts at data center sites in Port Washington and Beaver Dam. Residents in Port Washington have complained about the disruption caused by around-the-clock construction at the new data center. Families near the construction in Beaver Dam have reported that their wells have run dry.
Although the Menomonie City Council voted to annex and rezone the land for the data center in early September [2025], pressure from local campaigners was so great that Mayor Randy Knaack announced at a Sept. 22 city council meeting that he had notified Balloonist that the city would not be moving forward with a development agreement. More good news came in January when the Menomonie City Council voted unanimously to place additional regulations on data center projects.
This comes after the city experienced major push back from a proposed data center last year.
This new ordinance will reclassify data centers and other similar large businesses. Menomonie mayor Randy Knaack says it will allow the city to institute strict guidelines. He says it puts the city on an even playing field with big businesses. “The new zoning will have some perspective on certain issues. It might be water use, it could be height of the building, noise, electricity usage. Those kinds of parameters with the new zoning. So, the city of Menomonie will actually have a better opportunity to bargain, or make things better if things move forward,” said Knaack.

You won’t find this pigeon on the streets of New York City. Meet the Pink-necked Green Pigeon (Treron vernans)! This colorful bird can be found throughout Southeast Asia, where it inhabits forests. It hangs out in small flocks in the treetops, foraging mainly for fruit. Distinguishing males from females isn’t too difficult: Females lack pink necks and are mostly olive-green in color!
