How many of you have a desk designated as your writing space?
I technically have four.
One is in my bedroom, and itâs not even a proper desk. Itâs a cheap bookcase with the shelves adjusted for me to write and have my writing stuff around me. And a cheap vanity stool that creaks every time I move just an inch. But itâs positioned just so, and the light of my laptop doesnât wake my sleeping husband.
The second one is in my daughterâs nursery. A convenient place for when Iâm waiting for her to wake up or for her to finally succumb to sleepâs clutches. I have some doodling material and writing books stored over there.
The next two are together in the basement, giving me the illusion of a corner desk. Itâs down here that I do most of my major plotting and editing. I have my trifold with the acts drawn onto it and scenes stuck on with sticky notes.
Even with four desks, itâs not enough. Iâm writing in the sitting room and family room. Iâm writing at work. Iâm writing wherever I can even though I have designated areas!
Let this be a lesson: a writing desk does not a writer make. You can have the perfect desk set up and it wonât do a damn thing to help your writing.
Do you have a writing space? Send me some pics of where you like to write! Your car? The park? The train? Iâd love to see where youâre able to focus.
PS: Sorry for being a day late. I was actually rearranging my room so I could have a writing space :)
